1 Thessalonians 5
1 And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you,
Toda o časih in obdobjih, bratje, ni potrebno, da vam pišem.
2 for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come,
Kajti vi sami prav dobro veste, da dan Gospodov prihaja tako, kakor tat ponoči.
3 for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail [doth] her who is with child, and they shall not escape;
Kajti ko bodo govorili: »Mir in varnost, « tedaj nenadoma pride nadnje uničenje, kakor porodne muke na žensko z otrokom; in ne bodo ubežali.
4 and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief;
Toda vi, bratje, niste v temi, da vas tisti dan preseneti kakor tat.
5 all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness,
Vi vsi ste otroci svetlobe in otroci dneva. Nismo od noči niti od teme.
6 so, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober,
Zatorej ne spimo, kakor počno drugi, temveč čujmo in bodimo trezni.
7 for those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken,
Kajti tisti, ki spijo, spijo ponoči; in tisti, ki se opijajo, so pijani ponoči.
8 and we, being of the day — let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and an helmet — a hope of salvation,
Toda mi, ki smo od dneva, bodimo trezni, nadenimo si prsni oklep vere in ljubezni in za čelado upanje rešitve duše.
9 because God did not appoint us to anger, but to the acquiring of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Kajti Bog nas ni določil za bes, temveč da dosežemo rešitev duše po našem Gospodu Jezusu Kristusu,
10 who did die for us, that whether we wake — whether we sleep — together with him we may live;
ki je umrl za nas, da bodisi smo budni ali spimo, naj bi živeli skupaj z njim.
11 wherefore, comfort ye one another, and build ye up, one the one, as also ye do.
Zato se skupaj tolažite in izgrajujte drug drugega, kakor tudi počnete.
12 And we ask you, brethren, to know those labouring among you, and leading you in the Lord, and admonishing you,
In rotimo vas bratje, da spoznate te, ki se med vami trudijo in so nad vami v Gospodu ter vas opominjajo,
13 and to esteem them very abundantly in love, because of their work; be at peace among yourselves;
in da jih zaradi njihovega dela zelo visoko spoštujte v ljubezni. In bodite v miru med seboj.
14 and we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all;
Torej vas spodbujamo, bratje, posvarite te, ki so nepodrejeni, tolažite malodušne, podpirajte slabotne, bodite potrpežljivi do vseh ljudi.
15 see no one evil for evil may render to any one, but always that which is good pursue ye, both to one another and to all;
Glejte, da nihče nobenemu človeku ne vrača zla za zlo, temveč vedno sledite temu, kar je dobro, tako med seboj kakor do vseh ljudi.
16 always rejoice ye;
Neprenehoma se veselite.
17 continually pray ye;
Molíte brez prenehanja.
18 in every thing give thanks, for this [is] the will of God in Christ Jesus in regard to you.
V vsaki stvari se zahvaljujte, kajti to je Božja volja v Kristusu Jezusu glede vas.
19 The Spirit quench not;
Ne gasite Duha.
20 prophesyings despise not;
Ne prezirajte prerokovanj.
21 all things prove; that which is good hold fast;
Preizkušajte vse stvari; trdno držite to, kar je dobro.
22 from all appearance of evil abstain ye;
Vzdržite se vsega videza zla.
23 and the God of the peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved unblameably in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ;
In sam Bog miru naj vas popolnoma posveti; in prosim Boga, da bodo vaš celoten duh in duša in telo ohranjeni neomadeževani do prihoda našega Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa.
24 stedfast is He who is calling you, who also will do [it].
Zvest je on, ki vas kliče, ki bo to tudi storil.
25 Brethren, pray for us;
Bratje, molíte za nas.
26 salute all the brethren in an holy kiss;
Pozdravite vse brate s svetim poljubom.
27 I charge you [by] the Lord, that the letter be read to all the holy brethren;
Po Gospodu vam naročam, da bo ta poslanica prebrana vsem svetim bratom.
28 the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [is] with you! Amen.
Milost našega Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa bodi z vami. Amen. [Prva poslanica Tesaloníčanom je bila napisana iz Aten.]
