1 Samuel 21

1 And David cometh in to Nob, unto Ahimelech the priest, and Ahimelech trembleth at meeting David, and saith to him, 'Wherefore [art] thou thyself alone, and no man with thee?'

Or. David vint à Nobé vers Achimélech, le prêtre; et Achimélech fut tout étonné de ce que David était venu. Et il lui dit: Pourquoi es-tu seul, et que personne n’est avec toi?

2 And David saith to Ahimelech the priest, 'The king hath commanded me a matter, and he saith unto me, Let no man know anything of the matter about which I am sending thee, and which I have commanded thee; and the young men I have caused to know at such and such a place;

Et David répondit à Achimélech, le prêtre: Le roi m’a donné un ordre, et il a dit: Que personne ne sache la chose pour laquelle tu es envoyé par moi, et quels sont les commandements que je t’ai donnés; car j’ai même assigné un rendez-vous à mes serviteurs en tel et tel lieu.

3 and now, what is there under thy hand? five loaves give into my hand, or that which is found.'

Maintenant donc si vous avez quelque chose sous la main, même cinq pains, donnez-les-moi, ou bien tout ce que vous trouverez.

4 And the priest answereth David, and saith, 'There is no common bread under my hand, but there is holy bread; if the youths have been kept only from women.'

Et le prêtre répondant à David, lui dit: Je n’ai point de pains pour le peuple sous la main, seulement au pain saint. Est-ce que tes serviteurs sont purs, surtout par rapport aux femmes?

5 And David answereth the priest, and saith to him, 'Surely, if women have been restrained from us as heretofore in my going out, then the vessels of the young men are holy, and it [is] a common way: and also, surely to-day it is sanctified in the vessel.'

Et David répondit au prêtre; et il lui dit: Certainement, s’il s’agit de femmes; nous nous sommes abstenus depuis hier et avant-hier, quand nous sommes partis, et les vases des serviteurs étaient purs. À la vérité, cette route a été souillée, mais elle sera sanctifiée elle-même aujourd’hui dans les vases.

6 And the priest giveth to him the holy thing, for there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence which is turned aside from the presence of Jehovah to put hot bread in the day of its being taken away.

Le prêtre lui donna donc du pain sanctifié; car il n’y avait point là de pain, si ce n’est seulement les pains de proposition, qui avaient été enlevés de devant le Seigneur pour y placer des pains chauds.

7 And there [is] a man of the servants of Saul on that day detained before Jehovah, and his name [is] Doeg the Edomite, chief of the shepherds whom Saul hath.

Or, il y avait en ce jour-là un certain homme des serviteurs de Saül, au dedans du tabernacle du Seigneur; et son nom était Doëg l’Iduméen, le plus puissant des pasteurs de Saül.

8 And David saith to Ahimelech, 'And is there not here under thy hand spear or sword? for neither my sword nor my vessels have I taken in my hand, for the matter of the king was urgent.'

David demanda donc à Achimélech: Avez-vous ici sous la main une lance ou un glaive? parce que je n’ai pas porté avec moi mon glaive, ni mes armes; car la parole du roi pressait.

9 And the priest saith, 'The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou didst smite in the valley of Elah, lo, it is wrapped in a garment behind the ephod, if it thou dost take to thyself, take; for there is none other save it in this [place].' And David saith, 'There is none like it — give it to me.'

Et le prêtre répondit: Voici le glaive de Goliath, le Philistin, que tu as tué dans la Vallée du térébinthe; il est enveloppé dans le manteau derrière l’éphod: si tu veux l’emporter, emporte-le; car il n’y en a point ici d’autre que celui-là. Et David dit: Il n’y en a point d’autre semblable à celui-là, donnez-le moi.

10 And David riseth and fleeth on that day from the face of Saul, and cometh in unto Achish king of Gath;

C’est pourquoi David se leva, et s’enfuit en ce jour-là de devant Saul, et vint vers Achis, roi de Geth.

11 and the servants of Achish say unto him, 'Is not this David king of the land? is it not of this one they sing in dances, saying, 'Saul smote among his thousands, and David among his myriads?'

Et les serviteurs d’Achis lui dirent, lorsqu’ils eurent vu David; N’est-ce pas ce David, le roi de la terre? N’est-ce pas pour lui qu’on chantait dans les chœurs, en disant: Saül en a tué mille, et David dix mille?

12 And David layeth these words in his heart, and is exceedingly afraid of the face of Achish king of Gath,

Mais David recueillit ces paroles en son cœur, et il craignit beaucoup de la part d’Achis, roi de Geth;

13 and changeth his behaviour before their eyes, and feigneth himself mad in their hand, and scribbleth on the doors of the gate, and letteth down his spittle unto his beard.

Aussi il changea de visage devant eux; et il tombait entre leurs mains, et il se heurtait contre les battants de la porte, et sa salive découlait sur sa barbe.

14 And Achish saith unto his servants, 'Lo, ye see a man acting as a madman; why do ye bring him in unto me?

Et Achis dit à ses serviteurs: Vous avez vu un homme insensé; pourquoi l’avez-vous amené vers moi?

15 A lack of madmen [have] I, that ye have brought in this one to act as a madman by me! doth this one come in unto my house?'

Est-ce que les furieux nous manquent, que vous avez introduit celui-ci, pour qu’il délire, moi présent? Est-ce que cet homme entrera dans ma maison?
