1 Samuel 15
1 And Samuel saith unto Saul, 'Me did Jehovah send to anoint thee for king over His people, over Israel; and now, hearken to the voice of the words of Jehovah:
Samuel dit à Saül: C’est moi que l’Éternel a envoyé pour t’oindre roi sur son peuple, sur Israël: écoute donc ce que dit l’Éternel.
2 'Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, I have looked after that which Amalek did to Israel, that which he laid for him in the way in his going up out of Egypt.
Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées: Je me souviens de ce qu’Amalek fit à Israël, lorsqu’il lui ferma le chemin à sa sortie d’Égypte.
3 Now, go, and thou hast smitten Amalek, and devoted all that it hath, and thou hast no pity on it, and hast put to death from man unto woman, from infant unto suckling, from ox unto sheep, from camel unto ass.'
Va maintenant, frappe Amalek, et dévouez par interdit tout ce qui lui appartient; tu ne l’épargneras point, et tu feras mourir hommes et femmes, enfants et nourrissons, bœufs et brebis, chameaux et ânes.
4 And Saul summoneth the people, and inspecteth them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand [are] men of Judah.
Saül convoqua le peuple, et en fit la revue à Thelaïm: il y avait deux cent mille hommes de pied, et dix mille hommes de Juda.
5 And Saul cometh in unto a city of Amalek, and layeth wait in a valley;
Saül marcha jusqu’à la ville d’Amalek, et mit une embuscade dans la vallée.
6 and Saul saith unto the Kenite, 'Go, turn aside, go down from the midst of Amalek, lest I consume thee with it, and thou didst kindness with all the sons of Israel, in their going up out of Egypt;' and the Kenite turneth aside from the midst of Amalek.
Il dit aux Kéniens: Allez, retirez-vous, sortez du milieu d’Amalek, afin que je ne vous fasse pas périr avec lui; car vous avez eu de la bonté pour tous les enfants d’Israël, lorsqu’ils montèrent d’Égypte. Et les Kéniens se retirèrent du milieu d’Amalek.
7 And Saul smiteth Amalek from Havilah — thy going in to Shur, which [is] on the front of Egypt,
Saül battit Amalek depuis Havila jusqu’à Schur, qui est en face de l’Égypte.
8 and he catcheth Agag king of Amalek alive, and all the people he hath devoted by the mouth of the sword;
Il prit vivant Agag, roi d’Amalek, et il dévoua par interdit tout le peuple en le passant au fil de l’épée.
9 and Saul hath pity — also the people — on Agag, and on the best of the flock, and of the herd, and of the seconds, and on the lambs, and on all that [is] good, and have not been willing to devote them; and all the work, despised and wasted — it they devoted.
Mais Saül et le peuple épargnèrent Agag, et les meilleures brebis, les meilleurs bœufs, les meilleures bêtes de la seconde portée, les agneaux gras, et tout ce qu’il y avait de bon; ils ne voulurent pas le dévouer par interdit, et ils dévouèrent seulement tout ce qui était méprisable et chétif.
10 And the word of Jehovah is unto Samuel, saying,
L’Éternel adressa la parole à Samuel, et lui dit:
11 'I have repented that I caused Saul to reign for king, for he hath turned back from after Me, and My words he hath not performed;' and it is displeasing to Samuel, and he crieth unto Jehovah all the night.
Je me repens d’avoir établi Saül pour roi, car il se détourne de moi et il n’observe point mes paroles. Samuel fut irrité, et il cria à l’Éternel toute la nuit.
12 And Samuel riseth early to meet Saul in the morning, and it is declared to Samuel, saying, 'Saul hath come in to Carmel, and lo, he is setting up to himself a monument, and goeth round, and passeth over, and goeth down to Gilgal.'
Il se leva de bon matin, pour aller au-devant de Saül. Et on vint lui dire: Saül est allé à Carmel, et voici, il s’est érigé un monument; puis il s’en est retourné, et, passant plus loin, il est descendu à Guilgal.
13 And Samuel cometh in unto Saul, and Saul saith to him, 'Blessed [art] thou of Jehovah; I have performed the word of Jehovah.'
Samuel se rendit auprès de Saül, et Saül lui dit: Sois béni de l’Éternel! J’ai observé la parole de l’Éternel.
14 And Samuel saith, 'And what [is] the noise of this flock in mine ears — and the noise of the herd which I am hearing?'
Samuel dit: Qu’est-ce donc que ce bêlement de brebis qui parvient à mes oreilles, et ce mugissement de bœufs que j’entends?
15 And Saul saith, 'From Amalek they have brought them, because the people had pity on the best of the flock, and of the herd, in order to sacrifice to Jehovah thy God, and the remnant we have devoted.'
Saül répondit: Ils les ont amenés de chez les Amalécites, parce que le peuple a épargné les meilleures brebis et les meilleurs bœufs, afin de les sacrifier à l’Éternel, ton Dieu; et le reste, nous l’avons dévoué par interdit.
16 And Samuel saith unto Saul, 'Desist, and I declare to thee that which Jehovah hath spoken unto me to-night;' and he saith to him, 'Speak.'
Samuel dit à Saül: Arrête, et je te déclarerai ce que l’Éternel m’a dit cette nuit. Et Saül lui dit: Parle!
17 And Samuel saith, 'Art not thou, if thou [art] little in thine own eyes, head of the tribes of Israel? and Jehovah doth anoint thee for king over Israel,
Samuel dit: Lorsque tu étais petit à tes yeux, n’es-tu pas devenu le chef des tribus d’Israël, et l’Éternel ne t’a-t-il pas oint pour que tu sois roi sur Israël?
18 and Jehovah sendeth thee in the way, and saith, Go, and thou hast devoted the sinners, the Amalekite, and fought against them till they are consumed;
L’Éternel t’avait fait partir, en disant: Va, et dévoue par interdit ces pécheurs, les Amalécites; tu leur feras la guerre jusqu’à ce que tu les aies exterminés.
19 and why hast thou not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah — and dost fly unto the spoil, and dost do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah?'
Pourquoi n’as-tu pas écouté la voix de l’Éternel? Pourquoi t’es-tu jeté sur le butin, et as-tu fait ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Éternel?
20 And Saul saith unto Samuel, 'Because — I have hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, and I go in the way which Jehovah hath sent me, and bring in Agag king of Amalek, and Amalek I have devoted;
Saül répondit à Samuel: J’ai bien écouté la voix de l’Éternel, et j’ai suivi le chemin par lequel m’envoyait l’Éternel. J’ai amené Agag, roi d’Amalek, et j’ai dévoué par interdit les Amalécites;
21 and the people taketh of the spoil of the flock and herd, the first part of the devoted thing, for sacrifice to Jehovah thy God in Gilgal.'
mais le peuple a pris sur le butin des brebis et des bœufs, comme prémices de ce qui devait être dévoué, afin de les sacrifier à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, à Guilgal.
22 And Samuel saith, 'Hath Jehovah had delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices as [in] hearkening to the voice of Jehovah? lo, hearkening than sacrifice is better; to give attention than fat of rams;
Samuel dit: L’Éternel trouve-t-il du plaisir dans les holocaustes et les sacrifices, comme dans l’obéissance à la voix de l’Éternel? Voici, l’obéissance vaut mieux que les sacrifices, et l’observation de sa parole vaut mieux que la graisse des béliers.
23 for a sin of divination [is] rebellion, and iniquity and teraphim [is] stubbornness; because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, He also doth reject thee from [being] king.'
Car la désobéissance est aussi coupable que la divination, et la résistance ne l’est pas moins que l’idolâtrie et les théraphim. Puisque tu as rejeté la parole de l’Éternel, il te rejette aussi comme roi.
24 And Saul saith unto Samuel, 'I have sinned, for I passed over the command of Jehovah, and thy words; because I have feared the people, I also hearken to their voice;
Alors Saül dit à Samuel: J’ai péché, car j’ai transgressé l’ordre de l’Éternel, et je n’ai pas obéi à tes paroles; je craignais le peuple, et j’ai écouté sa voix.
25 and now, bear, I pray thee, with my sin, and turn back with me, and I bow myself to Jehovah.'
Maintenant, je te prie, pardonne mon péché, reviens avec moi, et je me prosternerai devant l’Éternel.
26 And Samuel saith unto Saul, 'I do not turn back with thee; for thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, and Jehovah doth reject thee from being king over Israel.'
Samuel dit à Saül: Je ne retournerai point avec toi; car tu as rejeté la parole de l’Éternel, et l’Éternel te rejette, afin que tu ne sois plus roi sur Israël.
27 And Samuel turneth round to go, and he layeth hold on the skirt of his upper robe — and it is rent!
Et comme Samuel se tournait pour s’en aller, Saül le saisit par le pan de son manteau, qui se déchira.
28 And Samuel saith unto him, 'Jehovah hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee to-day, and given it to thy neighbour who is better than thou;
Samuel lui dit: L’Éternel déchire aujourd’hui de dessus toi la royauté d’Israël, et il la donne à un autre, qui est meilleur que toi.
29 and also, the Pre-eminence of Israel doth not lie nor repent, for He [is] not a man to be penitent.'
Celui qui est la force d’Israël ne ment point et ne se repent point, car il n’est pas un homme pour se repentir.
30 And he saith, 'I have sinned; now, honour me, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn back with me; and I have bowed myself to Jehovah thy God.'
Saül dit encore: J’ai péché! Maintenant, je te prie, honore-moi en présence des anciens de mon peuple et en présence d’Israël; reviens avec moi, et je me prosternerai devant l’Éternel, ton Dieu.
31 And Samuel turneth back after Saul, and Saul boweth himself to Jehovah;
Samuel retourna et suivit Saül, et Saül se prosterna devant l’Éternel.
32 and Samuel saith, 'Bring ye nigh unto me Agag king of Amalek,' and Agag cometh unto him daintily, and Agag saith, 'Surely the bitterness of death hath turned aside.'
Puis Samuel dit: Amenez-moi Agag, roi d’Amalek. Et Agag s’avança vers lui d’un air joyeux; il disait: Certainement, l’amertume de la mort est passée.
33 And Samuel saith, 'As thy sword bereaved women — so is thy mother bereaved above women;' and Samuel heweth Agag in pieces before Jehovah in Gilgal.
Samuel dit: De même que ton épée a privé des femmes de leurs enfants, ainsi ta mère entre les femmes sera privée d’un fils. Et Samuel mit Agag en pièces devant l’Éternel, à Guilgal.
34 And Samuel goeth to Ramath, and Saul hath gone unto his house — to Gibeah of Saul.
Samuel partit pour Rama, et Saül monta dans sa maison à Guibea de Saül.
35 And Samuel hath not added to see Saul till the day of his death, for Samuel mourned for Saul, and Jehovah repented that He had caused Saul to reign over Israel.
Samuel n’alla plus voir Saül jusqu’au jour de sa mort; car Samuel pleurait sur Saül, parce que l’Éternel se repentait d’avoir établi Saül roi d’Israël.
