1 Corinthians 7
1 And concerning the things of which ye wrote to me: good [it is] for a man not to touch a woman,
Ich komme auf das, weswegen ihr geschrieben habt: Es ist besser für den Mann, sich mit dem Weibe nicht einzulassen.
2 and because of the whoredom let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her proper husband;
Doch wegen der Gefahr der Unzucht soll jeder sein Weib und jedes Weib ihren Mann haben.
3 to the wife let the husband the due benevolence render, and in like manner also the wife to the husband;
Der Mann soll dem Weibe die eheliche Pflicht leisten und ebenso das Weib dem Manne.
4 the wife over her own body hath not authority, but the husband; and, in like manner also, the husband over his own body hath not authority, but the wife.
Das Weib hat kein Verfügungsrecht mehr über seinen Leib, sondern der Mann; desgleichen hat der Mann auch kein Verfügungsrecht mehr über seinen Leib, sondern das Weib.
5 Defraud not one another, except by consent for a time, that ye may be free for fasting and prayer, and again may come together, that the Adversary may not tempt you because of your incontinence;
Verweigert euch einander nicht, außer auf Grund von gegenseitiger Übereinkunft eine Zeitlang, um für das Gebet Zeit zu haben und dann wieder zusammenzuleben, damit euch der Satan nicht versuche wegen eures Mangels an Selbstbeherrschung.
6 and this I say by way of concurrence — not of command,
Ich sage dies nur ab Zugeständnis, nicht als Gebot.
7 for I wish all men to be even as I myself [am]; but each his own gift hath of God, one indeed thus, and one thus.
Ich wollte aber, alle Menschen wären so wie ich; indes hat jeder von Gott seine eigene Gabe, der eine so, der andere anders.
8 And I say to the unmarried and to the widows: it is good for them if they may remain even as I [am];
Den Ledigen und Witwen sage ich: Viel besser ist es für sie, wenn sie so bleiben wie ich.
9 and if they have not continence — let them marry, for it is better to marry than to burn;
Doch können sie sich nicht enthalten, so sollen sie heiraten. Denn besser ist heiraten als brennen.
10 and to the married I announce — not I, but the Lord — let not a wife separate from a husband:
Den Verehelichten aber befehle ich, das heißt nicht ich, es ist der Herr: Das Weib darf sich vom Manne nicht trennen.
11 but and if she may separate, let her remain unmarried, or to the husband let her be reconciled, and let not a husband send away a wife.
Sollte es sich aber dennoch trennen, so muß es unverehelicht bleiben oder sich wiederum mit seinem Manne versöhnen. Und auch der Mann darf sein Weib nicht entlassen.
12 And to the rest I speak — not the Lord — if any brother hath a wife unbelieving, and she is pleased to dwell with him, let him not send her away;
Den übrigen sage ich, nicht der Herr: Hat ein Bruder ein ungläubiges Weib und dieses will mit ihm noch weiterleben, so soll er es nicht entlassen.
13 and a woman who hath a husband unbelieving, and he is pleased to dwell with her, let her not send him away;
Und hat ein gläubiges Weib einen ungläubigen Mann und dieser will mit ihm noch weiterleben, so soll sie den Mann nicht entlassen.
14 for the unbelieving husband hath been sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife hath been sanctified in the husband; otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy.
Geheiligt wird der ungläubige Mann im Weib und das ungläubige Weib wird im Bruder heilig; sonst wären ja auch eure Kinder unrein, so aber sind sie heilig.
15 And, if the unbelieving doth separate himself — let him separate himself: the brother or the sister is not under servitude in such [cases], and in peace hath God called us;
Will aber der ungläubige Teil sich scheiden lassen, so mag er es tun; ein Bruder oder eine Schwester ist in solchen Fällen nicht gebunden; vielmehr hat Gott euch zum Frieden berufen.
16 for what, hast thou known, O wife, whether the husband thou shalt save? or what, hast thou known, O husband, whether the wife thou shalt save?
Denn weißt du wirklich, Weib, ob du deinen Mann retten wirst? Mann, weißt du denn, ob du dein Weib retten wirst?
17 if not, as God did distribute to each, as the Lord hath called each — so let him walk; and thus in all the assemblies do I direct:
Jeder lebe so, wie der Herr es ihm verliehen, wie Gott ihn berufen hat. Diese Weisung gebe ich überall in den Gemeinden.
18 being circumcised — was any one called? let him not become uncircumcised; in uncircumcision was any one called? let him not be circumcised;
Ward einer als Beschnittener berufen, so suche er dies nicht zu verbergen; ward er als Unbeschnittener berufen, dann lasse er sich nicht beschneiden.
19 the circumcision is nothing, and the uncircumcision is nothing — but a keeping of the commands of God.
Es kommt nicht darauf an, ob man beschnitten sei, und nicht darauf, ob man unbeschnitten sei, vielmehr ob man die Gebote Gottes halte.
20 Each in the calling in which he was called — in this let him remain;
Ein jeder bleibe in dem Stande, in dem er berufen ward.
21 a servant — wast thou called? be not anxious; but if also thou art able to become free — use [it] rather;
Du wurdest vielleicht als Sklave berufen? Das soll dir keine Sorge machen. Selbst wenn du frei werden kannst, bleibe erst recht dabei.
22 for he who [is] in the Lord — having been called a servant — is the Lord's freedman: in like manner also he the freeman, having been called, is servant of Christ:
Ein Sklave, der im Herrn berufen ist, ist ja ein Freigelassener des Herrn, so wie auch, wer als Freier berufen ward, ein Sklave Christi ist.
23 with a price ye were bought, become not servants of men;
Um einen Preis seid ihr erkauft. Werdet nicht zu Menschensklaven!
24 each, in that in which he was called, brethren, in this let him remain with God.
Meine Brüder! Jeder soll vor Gott in dem Stande verbleiben, in dem er berufen ward.
25 And concerning the virgins, a command of the Lord I have not; and I give judgment as having obtained kindness from the Lord to be faithful:
Was dann die Jungfrauen betrifft, so habe ich kein Gebot vom Herrn; doch einen Rat will ich erteilen als einer, der durch die Gnade des Herrn als zuverlässig erwiesen ward.
26 I suppose, therefore, this to be good because of the present necessity, that [it is] good for a man that the matter be thus: —
Ich meine nun, der gegenwärtigen Bedrängnis wegen sei es gut, daß sie so bleiben; wie es auch für jeden anderen gut ist.
27 Hast thou been bound to a wife? seek not to be loosed; hast thou been loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
Du bist an eine Frau gebunden? Suche keine Lösung! Du bist ledig? Suche keine Frau!
28 But and if thou mayest marry, thou didst not sin; and if the virgin may marry, she did not sin; and such shall have tribulation in the flesh: and I spare you.
Doch wenn du dennoch heiratest, sündigst du nicht. Auch wenn die Jungfrau heiratet, sündigt sie nicht. Doch werden solche irdische Bedrängnis haben, und davor möchte ich euch bewahren.
29 And this I say, brethren, the time henceforth is having been shortened — that both those having wives may be as not having;
Doch das, Brüder, muß ich sagen: Die Zeit ist kurz bemessen. Daß doch künftighin Verheiratete so leben, als wären sie nicht verheiratet,
30 and those weeping, as not weeping; and those rejoicing, as not rejoicing; and those buying, as not possessing;
die Weinenden, als weinten sie nicht, die Fröhlichen, als wären sie nicht fröhlich, die Kaufenden, als behielten sie nichts,
31 and those using this world, as not using [it] up; for passing away is the fashion of this world.
und die mit der Welt verkehren, als hätten sie nichts davon; denn die Gestalt dieser Welt vergeht.
32 And I wish you to be without anxiety; the unmarried is anxious for the things of the Lord, how he shall please the Lord;
Ich möchte aber, daß ihr ohne Sorgen seid. Wer ledig ist, sorgt für die Sache des Herrn: er möchte gern dem Herrn gefallen.
33 and the married is anxious for the things of the world, how he shall please the wife.
Doch der Verehelichte sorgt sich um Weltliches: er möchte gern dem Weib gefallen,
34 The wife and the virgin have been distinguished: the unmarried is anxious for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit, and the married is anxious for the things of the world, how she shall please the husband.
er ist geteilt. Die unverheiratete Frau und die Jungfrau sorgt sich um die Sache des Herrn: daß sie an Leib und Seele heilig sei; doch die Verheiratete sorgt sich ab um Weltliches: sie möchte gern dem Mann gefallen.
35 And this for your own profit I say: not that I may cast a noose upon you, but for the seemliness and devotedness to the Lord, undistractedly,
Das sage ich aber nur zu eurem eigenen Nutzen, nicht, um euch eine Schlinge überzuwerfen, sondern damit ihr wohlanständig und beharrlich, ohne Ablenkung beim Herrn aushaltet.
36 and if any one doth think [it] to be unseemly to his virgin, if she may be beyond the bloom of age, and it ought so to be, what he willeth let him do; he doth not sin — let him marry.
Wenn aber einer an seiner Jungfrau ungeziemend zu handeln glaubt, wenn diese über ihrer Reife ist, und es kommt so zu einem Muß, dann tue er, was er mag; er sündigt nicht; sie mögen heiraten.
37 And he who hath stood stedfast in the heart — not having necessity — and hath authority over his own will, and this he hath determined in his heart — to keep his own virgin — doth well;
Doch wer in seinem Innern gefestigt ist und keinerlei Notwendigkeit zu folgen braucht und Gewalt über seine Begierlichkeit hat, wenn nun ein solcher sich in seinem Inneren dafür entschieden hat, seine Jungfrau zu behalten, der tut wohl daran.
38 so that both he who is giving in marriage doth well, and he who is not giving in marriage doth better.
Wer also seine Jungfrau verheiratet, der handelt gut; doch wer sie nicht verheiratet, der handelt besser.
39 A wife hath been bound by law as long time as her husband may live, and if her husband may sleep, she is free to be married to whom she will — only in the Lord;
Das Weib ist gebunden, solange sein Mann noch lebt; ist nun sein Mann entschlafen, dann ist es frei und kann heiraten, wen es will; es soll jedoch im Herrn geschehen.
40 and she is happier if she may so remain — according to my judgment; and I think I also have the Spirit of God.
Sie ist indessen seliger, wenn sie so bleibt. Dies ist zwar nur meine eigene Meinung; ich glaube jedoch, auch den Geist Gottes zu haben.
