1 Chronicles 19
1 And it cometh to pass after this, that Nahash king of the sons of Ammon dieth, and his son reigneth in his stead,
Darnach ereignete es sich, daß Nahas, der König der Ammoniter, starb, und sein Sohn Hanun an seiner Stelle zur Regierung kam.
2 and David saith, 'I do kindness with Hanun son of Nahash, for his father did with me kindness;' and David sendeth messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And the servants of David come in unto the land of the sons of Ammon, unto Hanun, to comfort him,
David dachte: Ich will mich gegen Hanun, den Sohn des Nahas, freundlich erzeigen, da sich sein Vater mir gegenüber freundlich erzeigt hat. So schickte denn David Gesandte, um ihm wegen seines Vaters Trost zusprechen zu lassen. Als nun Davids Hofbeamte ins Land der Ammoniter zu Hanun kamen, um ihm Trost zuzusprechen,
3 and the heads of the sons of Ammon say to Hanun, 'Is David honouring thy father, in thine eyes, because he hath sent to thee comforters? in order to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out, the land, have not his servants come in unto thee?'
sagten die Fürsten der Ammoniter zu Hanun: Glaubst du denn, daß David, indem er dir Tröster zusendet, deinem Vater eine Ehre erzeigen will? Sicher sind seine Beamten nur deshalb zu dir gekommen, um die Stadt zu erforschen und zu zerstören und das Land auszukundschaften?
4 And Hanun taketh the servants of David, and shaveth them, and cutteth their long robes in the midst, unto the buttocks, and sendeth them away.
Da ließ Hanun die Beamten Davids ergreifen, ließ sie scheren und ihnen die Kleider halb abschneiden, bis ans Gesäß, und schickte sie dann fort.
5 And [some] go, and declare to David concerning the men, and he sendeth to meet them — for the men have been greatly ashamed — and the king saith, 'Dwell in Jericho till that your beard is grown, then ye have returned.'
Als man nun hinging und David in betreff der Männer Meldung that, sandte er ihnen entgegen - denn die Männer waren schwer beschimpft - und der König ließ ihnen sagen: Bleibt in Jericho; erst wann euch der Bart wieder gewachsen ist, kommt zurück!
6 And the sons of Ammon see that they have made themselves abhorred by David, and Hanun and the sons of Ammon send a thousand talents of silver, to hire to them, from Aram-Naharaim, and from Aram-Maachah, and from Zobah, chariots and horsemen;
Als nun die Ammoniter merkten, daß sie sich bei David verhaßt gemacht hatten, schickten Hanun und die Ammoniter tausend Talente Silber, um sich von den Aramäern in Mesopotamien und den Aramäern von Maacha und von Zoba Wagen und Reiter zu erkaufen.
7 and they hire to them two and thirty thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people, and they come in and encamp before Medeba, and the sons of Ammon have been gathered out of their cities, and come in to the battle.
So erkauften sie sich 32000 Wagen und den König von Maacha mit seinen Truppen; die kamen und lagerten sich vor Medeba. Und die Ammoniter versammelten sich aus ihren Städten und rückten zum Kampfe aus.
8 And David heareth, and sendeth Joab, and all the host of the mighty men,
Als David davon hörte, schickte er Joab mit dem ganzen Heere der Gibborim hin.
9 and the sons of Ammon come out and set battle in array at the opening of the city, and the kings who have come [are] by themselves in the field.
Aber die Ammoriter rückten aus und stellten sich am Eingange der Stadt in Schlachtordnung auf, während die Könige, die herbeigekommen waren, für sich auf freiem Felde standen.
10 And Joab seeth that the front of the battle hath been unto him, before and behind, and he chooseth out of all the choice in Israel, and setteth in array to meet Aram,
Als nun Joab sah, daß ihm sowohl von vorn wie von hinten ein Angriff drohe, traf er eine Auswahl aus allen Erlesenen in Israel und stellte sich den Aramäern gegenüber.
11 and the remnant of the people he hath given into the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set in array to meet the sons of Ammon.
Den Rest des Kriegsvolks hingegen übergab er der Führung seines Bruders Absai, damit sie sich den Ammonitern gegenüberstellten.
12 And he saith, 'If Aram be stronger than I, then thou hast been to me for salvation; and if the sons of Ammon be stronger than thou, then I have saved thee;
Dabei ordnete er an: Wenn die Aramäer mir überlegen sind, so mußt du mir zu Hilfe kommen; sind aber die Ammoniter dir überlegen, so werde ich dir helfen.
13 be strong, and we strengthen ourselves, for our people, and for the cities of our God, and Jehovah doth that which is good in His eyes.'
Sei mannhaft und laß uns mannhaft auftreten für unser Volk und für die Städte unseres Gottes - Jahwe aber möge thun, was ihm wohlgefällt!
14 And Joab draweth nigh, and the people who [are] with him, before Aram to battle, and they flee from his face;
So rückte denn Joab mit den Truppen, die er bei sich hatte, zum Kampfe gegen die Aramäer vor, und sie flohen vor ihm.
15 and the sons of Ammon have seen that Aram hath fled, and they flee — they also — from the face of Abishai his brother, and go in to the city. And Joab cometh in to Jerusalem.
Als aber die Ammoniter bemerkten, daß die Aramäer vor Joab flohen, da flohen auch sie vor seinem Bruder Absai und zogen sich in die Stadt zurück. Joab aber kehrte nach Jerusalem zurück.
16 And Aram seeth that they have been smitten before Israel, and send messengers, and bring out Aram that [is] beyond the River, and Shophach head of the host of Hadarezer [is] before them.
Als nun die Aramäer sahen, daß sie von den Israeliten geschlagen waren, sandten sie Boten und ließen die Aramäer von jenseits des Stromes ausrücken, und Sophach, der Feldherr Hadaresers, stand an ihrer Spitze.
17 And it is declared to David, and he gathereth all Israel, and passeth over the Jordan, and cometh in unto them, and setteth in array against them; yea, David setteth in array the battle to meet Aram, and they fight with him;
Als das David hinterbracht wurde, bot er ganz Israels auf, überschritt den Jordan, gelangte nach Helam und stellte sich gegen sie auf. Da stellten sich auch die Aramäer in Schlachtordnung gegen David auf und lieferten ihm eine Schlacht.
18 and Aram fleeth from the face of Israel, and David slayeth of Aram seven thousand charioteers, and forty thousand footmen, and Shophach head of the host he hath put to death.
Aber die Aramäer flohen vor den Israeliten, und David tötete den Aramäern 7000 Wagenpferde und 40000 Mann Fußvolk; auch Sophach, den Feldherrn, tötete er.
19 And the servants of Hadarezer see that they have been smitten before Israel, and they make peace with David and serve him, and Aram hath not been willing to help the sons of Ammon any more.
Als aber die Unterthanen Hadaresers sahen, daß sie von den Israeliten geschlagen waren, schlossen sie Frieden mit David und unterwarfen sich ihm, und die Aramäer hatten keine Lust, den Ammonitern ferner noch Hilfe zu leisten.
