Titus 1
1 Poul, the seruaunt of God, and apostle of Jhesu Crist, bi the feith of the chosun of God, and bi the knowing of the treuthe, whiche is aftir pitee,
Esta carta viene de parte de Pablo, siervo de Dios y apóstol de Jesucristo. Fui enviado para edificar la fe del pueblo escogido de Dios y para compartir el conocimiento de la verdad que conduce a vidas dedicadas a Dios.
2 in to the hope of euerlastinge lijf, which lijf God that lieth not, bihiyte bifore tymes of the world; (aiōnios g166)
Esto les da la esperanza de una vida eterna que Dios (quien no puede mentir) prometió desde edades atrás, (aiōnios g166)
3 but he hath schewid in hise tymes his word in preching, that is bitakun to me bi the comaundement of `God oure sauyour,
pero que a su debido tiempo reveló por medio de su palabra, en el mensaje que se me encomendó predicar, siguiendo el mandato de Dios, nuestro Salvador.
4 to Tite, most dereworthe sone bi the comyn feith, grace and pees of God the fadir, and of Crist Jhesu, oure sauyour.
Esta carta va dirigida a Tito, mi verdadero hijo por medio de la fe en Dios que tenemos en común. Ten gracia y paz de Dios el Padre, y de Cristo Jesús, nuestro Salvador.
5 For cause of this thing Y lefte thee at Crete, that thou amende tho thingis that failen, and ordeyne preestis bi citees, as also Y disposide to thee.
La razón por la cual te dejé en Creta fue para que organizaras lo que era necesario y para designar ancianos en cada ciudad, como te dije.
6 If ony man is withoute cryme, an hosebonde of o wijf, and hath feithful sones, not in accusacioun of letcherie, or not suget.
Un anciano debe tener una buena reputación, ser esposo de una mujer, y tener hijos creyentes y de los cuales no se diga que son rebeldes y desobedientes.
7 For it bihoueth a bischop to be without cryme, a dispendour of God, not proud, not wrathful, not drunkelew, not smytere, not coueytouse of foul wynnyng;
Como líder de Dios, un anciano líder debe tener una buena reputación y no ser arrogante. No debe tener un mal carácter ni embriagarse; no debe ser violento ni tener avaricia por el dinero.
8 but holdinge hospitalite, benygne, prudent, sobre, iust,
Debe ser hospitalario, amar el bien y hacer lo recto. Debe vivir una vida dedicada a Dios, tener dominio propio,
9 hooli, contynent, takinge that trewe word, that is aftir doctryn; that he be miyti to amoneste in hoolsum techyng, and to repreue hem that ayenseien.
y consagrarse al mensaje fiel, tal como se le enseño. De esta manera podrá animar a otros por medio de la enseñanza correcta, y convencer a los que se oponen.
10 For ther ben many vnobedient, and veyn spekeris, and disseyueris, moost thei that ben of circumcisyoun,
Pues hay muchos rebeldes por ahí que predican engaños sin sentido, especialmente los del grupo de la circuncisión.
11 whiche it bihoueth to be repreued; whiche subuerten alle housis, techinge whiche thingis it bihoueth not, for the loue of foul wynnyng.
Toda su habladuría debe parar. Pues ellos causan inestabilidad en las familias, enseñando cosas que no son correctas, por interés de ganar dinero.
12 And oon of hem, her propre profete, seide, Men of Crete ben euere more lyeris, yuele beestis, of slowe wombe.
Tal como ha dicho uno de su propio pueblo, un profeta: “Todos los cretenses son mentirosos, bestias del mal, perezosas y avaras”.
13 This witnessyng is trewe. For what cause blame hem sore, that thei be hool in feith,
¡Esto es muy cierto! Por ello, repréndelos con severidad para que puedan llegar a tener una fe sana en Dios,
14 not yyuynge tent to fablis of Jewis, and to maundementis of men, that turnen awei hem fro treuthe.
dejando de atender los mandamientos humanos y mitos judíos de aquellos que se desvían de la verdad.
15 And alle thingis ben clene to clene men; but to vnclene men and to vnfeithful no thing is clene, for the soule and conscience of hem ben maad vnclene.
A los que tienen mentes puras, todo les parece puro; pero para los que son corruptos y se niegan a creer en Dios, nada es puro. Porque tanto sus mentes como sus conciencias están corrompidas.
16 Thei knoulechen that thei knowen God, but bi dedis thei denyen; whanne thei ben abhominable, and vnbileueful, and repreuable to al good werk.
Ellos dicen conocer a Dios, pero con sus actos demuestran que es mentira. Son aborrecibles y desobedientes, y no sirven para hacer nada bueno.
