Romans 13
1 Euery soule be suget to heiyere powers. For ther is no power but of God, and tho thingis that ben of God, ben ordeyned.
Ogni persona sia sottoposta alle autorità superiori; perché non v’è autorità se non da Dio; e le autorità che esistono, sono ordinate da Dio:
2 Therfor he that ayenstondith power, ayenstondith the ordynaunce of God; and thei that ayenstonden, geten to hem silf dampnacioun.
talché chi resiste all’autorità, si oppone all’ordine di Dio; e quelli che vi si oppongono, si attireranno addosso una pena;
3 For princes ben not to the drede of good work, but of yuel. But wilt thou, that thou drede not power? Do thou good thing, and thou schalt haue preisyng of it;
poiché i magistrati non son di spavento alle opere buone, ma alle cattive. Vuoi tu non aver paura dell’autorità? Fa’ quel ch’è bene, e avrai lode da essa;
4 for he is the mynystre of God to thee in to good. But if thou doist yuel, drede thou; for not with outen cause he berith the swerd, for he is the mynystre of God, vengere in to wraththe to hym that doith yuel.
perché il magistrato è un ministro di Dio per il tuo bene; ma se fai quel ch’è male, temi, perché egli non porta la spada invano; poich’egli è un ministro di Dio, per infliggere una giusta punizione contro colui che fa il male.
5 And therfor bi nede be ye suget, not oneli for wraththe, but also for conscience.
Perciò è necessario star soggetti non soltanto a motivo della punizione, ma anche a motivo della coscienza.
6 For therfor ye yyuen tributis, thei ben the mynystris of God, and seruen for this same thing.
Poiché è anche per questa ragione che voi pagate i tributi; perché si tratta di ministri di Dio, i quali attendono del continuo a questo ufficio.
7 Therfor yelde ye to alle men dettis, to whom tribut, tribut, to whom tol, tol, to whom drede, drede, to whom onour, onour.
Rendete a tutti quel che dovete loro: il tributo a chi dovete il tributo; la gabella a chi la gabella; il timore a chi il timore; l’onore a chi l’onore.
8 To no man owe ye ony thing, but that ye loue togidere. For he that loueth his neiybore, hath fulfillid the lawe.
Non abbiate altro debito con alcuno se non d’amarvi gli uni gli altri; perché chi ama il prossimo ha adempiuto la legge.
9 For, Thou schalt do no letcherie, Thou schalt not sle, Thou schalt not stele, Thou schalt not seie fals witnessyng, Thou schalt not coueyte the thing of thi neiybore, and if ther be ony othere maundement, it is instorid in this word, Thou schalt loue thi neiybore as thi silf.
Infatti il non commettere adulterio, non uccidere, non rubare, non concupire e qualsiasi altro comandamento si riassumono in questa parola: Ama il prossimo tuo come te stesso.
10 The loue of neiybore worchith not yuel; therfor loue is the fulfillyng of the lawe.
L’amore non fa male alcuno al prossimo; l’amore, quindi, è l’adempimento della legge.
11 And we knowen this tyme, that the our is now, that we rise fro sleep; for now oure heelthe is neer, than whanne we bileueden.
E questo tanto più dovete fare, conoscendo il tempo nel quale siamo; poiché è ora ormai che vi svegliate dal sonno; perché la salvezza ci è adesso più vicina di quando credemmo.
12 The nyyt wente bifore, but the dai hath neiyed. Therfor caste we awei the werkis of derknessis, and be we clothid in the armeris of liyt.
La notte è avanzata, il giorno è vicino; gettiam dunque via le opere delle tenebre, e indossiamo le armi della luce.
13 As in dai wandre we onestli, not in superflu feestis and drunkenessis, not in beddis and vnchastitees, not in strijf and in enuye;
Camminiamo onestamente, come di giorno; non in gozzoviglie ed ebbrezze; non in lussuria e lascivie; non in contese ed invidie;
14 but be ye clothid in the Lord Jhesu Crist, and do ye not the bisynesse of fleisch in desiris.
ma rivestitevi del Signor Gesù Cristo, e non abbiate cura della carne per soddisfarne le concupiscenze.
