< Psalms 17 >

1 The preier of Dauid. Lord, here thou my riytfulnesse; biholde thou my preier. Perseuye thou with eeris my preier; not maad in gileful lippis.
A Prayer of David. Hear, O Jehovah, righteousness, attend my cry, Give ear [to] my prayer, without lips of deceit.
2 Mi doom come `forth of thi cheer; thin iyen se equite.
From before thee my judgment doth go out; Thine eyes do see uprightly.
3 Thou hast preued myn herte, and hast visitid in niyt; thou hast examynyd me bi fier, and wickidnesse is not foundun in me.
Thou hast proved my heart, Thou hast inspected by night, Thou hast tried me, Thou findest nothing; My thoughts pass not over my mouth.
4 That my mouth speke not the werkis of men; for the wordis of thi lippis Y haue kept harde weies.
As to doings of man, Through a word of Thy lips I have observed The paths of a destroyer;
5 Make thou perfit my goyngis in thi pathis; that my steppis be not moued.
To uphold my goings in Thy paths, My steps have not slidden.
6 I criede, for thou, God, herdist me; bowe doun thin eere to me, and here thou my wordis.
I — I called Thee, for Thou dost answer me, O God, incline Thine ear to me, hear my speech.
7 Make wondurful thi mercies; that makist saaf `men hopynge in thee.
Separate wonderfully Thy kindness, O Saviour of the confiding, By Thy right hand, from withstanders.
8 Kepe thou me as the appil of the iye; fro `men ayenstondynge thi riyt hond. Keuere thou me vndur the schadewe of thi wyngis;
Keep me as the apple, the daughter of the eye; In shadow of Thy wings thou dost hide me.
9 fro the face of vnpitouse men, that han turmentid me. Myn enemyes han cumpassid my soule;
From the face of the wicked who spoiled me. Mine enemies in soul go round against me.
10 thei han closide togidere her fatnesse; the mouth of hem spak pride.
Their fat they have closed up, Their mouths have spoken with pride:
11 Thei castiden me forth, and han cumpassid me now; thei ordeyneden to bowe doun her iyen in to erthe.
'Our steps now have compassed [him];' Their eyes they set to turn aside in the land.
12 Thei, as a lioun maad redi to prey, han take me; and as the whelp of a lioun dwellynge in hid places.
His likeness as a lion desirous to tear, As a young lion dwelling in secret places.
13 Lord, rise thou vp, bifor come thou hym, and disseyue thou hym; delyuere thou my lijf fro the `vnpitouse,
Arise, O Jehovah, go before his face, Cause him to bend. Deliver my soul from the wicked, Thy sword,
14 delyuere thou thi swerd fro the enemyes of thin hond. Lord, departe thou hem fro a fewe men of `the lond in the lijf of hem; her wombe is fillid of thin hid thingis. Thei ben fillid with sones; and thei leften her relifis to her litle children.
From men, Thy hand, O Jehovah, From men of the world, their portion [is] in life, And [with] Thy hidden things Thou fillest their belly, They are satisfied [with] sons; And have left their abundance to their sucklings.
15 But Y in riytfulnesse schal appere to thi siyt; Y schal be fillid, whanne thi glorie schal appere.
I — in righteousness, I see Thy face; I am satisfied, in awaking, [with] Thy form!
