< Psalms 147 >
1 Alleluya. Herie ye the Lord, for the salm is good; heriyng be myrie, and fair to oure God.
Hallelujah. It is good to sing praise to our God, for praise is sweet and seemly.
2 The Lord schal bilde Jerusalem; and schal gadere togidere the scateryngis of Israel.
The Lord builds up Jerusalem, the outcasts of Israel he gathers.
3 Which Lord makith hool men contrit in herte; and byndith togidere the sorewes of hem.
He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
4 Which noumbrith the multitude of sterris; and clepith names to alle tho.
He counts the numberless stars, he gives names to them all.
5 Oure Lord is greet, and his vertu is greet; and of his wisdom is no noumbre.
Great is our Lord, rich in power, and measureless is his wisdom.
6 The Lord takith vp mylde men; forsothe he makith low synneris `til to the erthe.
The Lord lifts up the down-trodden, the wicked he brings to the ground.
7 Bifore synge ye to the Lord in knoulechyng; seye ye salm to oure God in an harpe.
Sing songs of thanks to the Lord, and play on the lyre to our God.
8 Which hilith heuene with cloudis; and makith redi reyn to the erthe. Which bryngith forth hei in hillis; and eerbe to the seruice of men.
For he covers the sky with clouds, he prepares rain for the earth, makes grass to grow on the mountains.
9 Which yyueth mete to her werk beestis; and to the briddys of crowis clepinge hym.
He gives the cattle their food the young ravens when they cry.
10 He schal not haue wille in the strengthe of an hors; nether it schal be wel plesaunt to hym in the leggis of a man.
His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, his joy is not in the speed of a runner;
11 It is wel plesaunt to the Lord on men that dreden hym; and in hem that hopen on his mercy.
but the Lord has his pleasure in those who fear him, in those who wait for his kindness.
12 Jerusalem, herie thou the Lord; Syon, herie thou thi God.
Praise the Lord, then, O Jerusalem: sing praise to your God, O Zion.
13 For he hath coumfortid the lockis of thi yatis; he hath blessid thi sones in thee.
For he strengthens the bars of your gates, and blesses your children within you.
14 Which hath set thi coostis pees; and fillith thee with the fatnesse of wheete.
He brings peace to your borders, and choicest of wheat in abundance.
15 Which sendith out his speche to the erthe; his word renneth swiftli.
He sends his command to the earth: his word runs very swiftly.
16 Which yyueth snow as wolle; spredith abrood a cloude as aische.
Snow he gives like wool, frost he scatters like ashes.
17 He sendith his cristal as mussels; who schal suffre bifore the face of his cooldnesse?
He casts forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?
18 He schal sende out his word, and schal melte tho; his spirit schal blowe, and watris schulen flowe.
He sends forth his word, and melts them: his wind blows the waters flow.
19 Which tellith his word to Jacob; and hise riytfulnessis and domes to Israel.
He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and judgments to Israel.
20 He dide not so to ech nacioun; and he schewide not hise domes to hem.
No other nation did he do this for, they know nothing of his judgments. Hallelujah.
