< Psalms 147 >
1 Alleluya. Herie ye the Lord, for the salm is good; heriyng be myrie, and fair to oure God.
Alleluia. Praise the Lord, because the psalm is good. Delightful and beautiful praise shall be for our God.
2 The Lord schal bilde Jerusalem; and schal gadere togidere the scateryngis of Israel.
The Lord builds up Jerusalem. He will gather together the dispersed of Israel.
3 Which Lord makith hool men contrit in herte; and byndith togidere the sorewes of hem.
He heals the contrite of heart, and he binds up their sorrows.
4 Which noumbrith the multitude of sterris; and clepith names to alle tho.
He numbers the multitude of the stars, and he calls them all by their names.
5 Oure Lord is greet, and his vertu is greet; and of his wisdom is no noumbre.
Great is our Lord, and great is his virtue. And of his wisdom, there is no number.
6 The Lord takith vp mylde men; forsothe he makith low synneris `til to the erthe.
The Lord lifts up the meek, but he brings down the sinner, even to the ground.
7 Bifore synge ye to the Lord in knoulechyng; seye ye salm to oure God in an harpe.
Sing before the Lord with confession. Play psalms to our God on a stringed instrument.
8 Which hilith heuene with cloudis; and makith redi reyn to the erthe. Which bryngith forth hei in hillis; and eerbe to the seruice of men.
He covers heaven with clouds, and he prepares rain for the earth. He produces grass on the mountains and herbs for the service of men.
9 Which yyueth mete to her werk beestis; and to the briddys of crowis clepinge hym.
He gives their food to beasts of burden and to young ravens that call upon him.
10 He schal not haue wille in the strengthe of an hors; nether it schal be wel plesaunt to hym in the leggis of a man.
He will not have good will for the strength of the horse, nor will he be well pleased with the legs of a man.
11 It is wel plesaunt to the Lord on men that dreden hym; and in hem that hopen on his mercy.
The Lord is well pleased with those who fear him and with those who hope in his mercy.
12 Jerusalem, herie thou the Lord; Syon, herie thou thi God.
Alleluia. Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem. Praise your God, O Zion.
13 For he hath coumfortid the lockis of thi yatis; he hath blessid thi sones in thee.
For he has reinforced the bars of your gates. He has blessed your sons within you.
14 Which hath set thi coostis pees; and fillith thee with the fatnesse of wheete.
He has stationed peace at your borders, and he has satisfied you with the fat of the grain.
15 Which sendith out his speche to the erthe; his word renneth swiftli.
He sends forth his eloquence to the earth. His word runs swiftly.
16 Which yyueth snow as wolle; spredith abrood a cloude as aische.
He provides snow like wool. He strews clouds like ashes.
17 He sendith his cristal as mussels; who schal suffre bifore the face of his cooldnesse?
He sends his ice crystals like morsels. Who can stand firm before the face of his cold?
18 He schal sende out his word, and schal melte tho; his spirit schal blowe, and watris schulen flowe.
He will send forth his word, and it will melt them. His Spirit will breathe out, and the waters will flow.
19 Which tellith his word to Jacob; and hise riytfulnessis and domes to Israel.
He announces his word to Jacob, his justices and his judgments to Israel.
20 He dide not so to ech nacioun; and he schewide not hise domes to hem.
He has not done so much for every nation, and he has not made his judgments manifest to them. Alleluia.
