< Psalms 120 >

1 The song of greces. Whanne Y was set in tribulacioun, Y criede to the Lord; and he herde me.
In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.
2 Lord, delyuere thou my soule fro wickid lippis; and fro a gileful tunge.
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
3 What schal be youun to thee, ether what schal be leid to thee; to a gileful tunge?
What shall be given unto you? or what shall be done unto you, you false tongue?
4 Scharpe arowis of the myyti; with colis that maken desolat.
Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
5 Allas to me! for my dwelling in an alien lond is maad long, Y dwellide with men dwellinge in Cedar; my soule was myche a comelyng.
Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!
6 I was pesible with hem that hatiden pees;
My soul has long dwelt with him that hates peace.
7 whanne Y spak to hem, thei ayenseiden me with outen cause.
I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
