Proverbs 31
1 The wordis of Lamuel, the king; the visioun bi which his modir tauyte hym.
Estas son las palabras del Rey Lemuel, un oráculo, enseñado por su madre.
2 What my derlyng? what the derlyng of my wombe? what the derlyng of my desiris?
¿Qué podré enseñarte, hijo mío? Mi hijo a quien parí; el hijo que nació como respuesta a mis votos.
3 Yyue thou not thi catel to wymmen, and thi richessis to do awei kyngis.
No desperdicies tu fuerza durmiendo con mujeres; con esas que hacen caer a los reyes.
4 A! Lamuel, nyle thou yiue wyn to kingis; for no pryuete is, where drunkenesse regneth.
Lemuel, no es digno de los reyes beber vino, ni de los gobernantes beber alcohol.
5 Lest perauenture thei drynke, and foryete domes, and chaunge the cause of the sones of a pore man.
Porque si beben, olvidarán la ley, y pervertirán los derechos de los que sufren.
6 Yyue ye sidur to hem that morenen, and wyn to hem that ben of bitter soule.
Dale alcohol a los que están muriendo, y vino a los que están sufriendo angustia.
7 Drinke thei, and foryete thei her nedinesse; and thenke thei no more on her sorewe.
Déjalos que beban para que olviden su pobreza, y para que no recuerden más sus problemas.
8 Opene thi mouth for a doumb man,
Habla en favor de los que no tienen voz, y lucha por los derechos de los marginados de la sociedad.
9 and opene thi mouth for the causes of alle sones that passen forth. Deme thou that that is iust, and deme thou a nedi man and a pore man.
Habla sin temor y juzga con honestidad, defiende a los pobres y desposeídos.
10 Who schal fynde a stronge womman? the prijs of her is fer, and fro the laste endis.
¿Quién podrá encontrar a una mujer fuerte y capaz? ¡Una mujer así es más valiosa que muchas joyas!
11 The herte of hir hosebond tristith in hir; and sche schal not haue nede to spuylis.
Su esposo tiene plena confianza en ella, y a su lado este hombre nunca empobrecerá.
12 Sche schal yelde to hym good, and not yuel, in alle the daies of hir lijf.
Durante toda su vida, esta mujer le trae el bien y nunca el mal.
13 Sche souyte wolle and flex; and wrouyte bi the counsel of hir hondis.
Ella consigue la lana y el lino, y con vehemencia elabora prendas de vestir con sus propias manos.
14 Sche is maad as the schip of a marchaunt, that berith his breed fro fer.
Así como la embarcación de un comerciante, ella trae desde lejos la comida.
15 And sche roos bi nyyt, and yaf prey to hir meyneals, and metis to hir handmaidis.
Se levanta antes del amanecer para preparar el desayuno para su familia, y para preparar el trabajo de sus siervas.
16 Sche bihelde a feeld, and bouyte it; of the fruyt of hir hondis sche plauntide a vyner.
Ella mira el campo y decide comprarlo. Con su propio salario decide comprar una viña.
17 Sche girde hir leendis with strengthe, and made strong hir arm.
Está siempre dispuesta y lista, y trabaja arduamente con sus fuertes brazos.
18 Sche taastide, and siy, that hir marchaundie was good; hir lanterne schal not be quenchid in the niyt.
Ella reconoce el gran valor de lo que hace. Se mantiene ocupada y su lámpara se apaga tarde, por la noche.
19 Sche putte hir hondis to stronge thingis, and hir fyngris token the spyndil.
Hila las fibras y las teje, convirtiéndolas en telas.
20 Sche openyde hir hond to a nedi man, and stretchide forth hir hondis to a pore man.
Es generosa y da a los necesitados.
21 Sche schal not drede for hir hous of the cooldis of snow; for alle hir meyneals ben clothid with double clothis.
No se preocupa si cae nieve, porque su familia tiene abrigo tibio.
22 Sche made to hir a ray cloth; bijs and purpur is the cloth of hir.
Ella se hace abrigos, y se viste con lino fino y ropa de color púrpura.
23 Hir hosebonde is noble in the yatis, whanne he sittith with the senatours of erthe.
Su esposo es respetado en el concilio a las puertas de la ciudad, donde se sienta con los ancianos.
24 Sche made lynnun cloth, and selde; and yaf a girdil to a Chananei.
Ella elabora ropas de lino para vender, y es la proveedora de cinturones para los comerciantes.
25 Strengthe and fairnesse is the clothing of hir; and sche schal leiye in the laste dai.
Ella se viste de fuerza y dignidad, y mira el futuro con alegría.
26 Sche openyde hir mouth to wisdom; and the lawe of merci is in hir tunge.
Ella habla con sabiduría, y es bondadosa al dar instrucciones.
27 Sche bihelde the pathis of hir hous; and sche eet not breed idili.
Ella se encarga de las necesidades de su familia, y nunca está desocupada.
28 Hir sones risiden, and prechiden hir moost blessid; hir hosebonde roos, and preiside hir.
Sus hijos se apresuran a bendecirla. Su esposo la alaba, diciendo:
29 Many douytris gaderiden richessis; thou passidist alle.
“Muchas mujeres hacen grandes cosas, ¡pero tú eres mejor que todas ellas!”
30 Fairnesse is disseiuable grace, and veyn; thilke womman, that dredith the Lord, schal be preisid.
El encanto es engañoso, y la belleza se desvanece; pero la mujer que honra al Señor merece ser alabada.
31 Yyue ye to hir of the fruyt of hir hondis; and hir werkis preise hir in the yatis.
Dale el reconocimiento que se merece; alábala públicamente por lo que ha hecho.
