Proverbs 2
1 Mi sone, if thou resseyuest my wordis, `and hidist myn heestis anentis thee;
Mon fils, si tu reçois mes paroles, et si tu gardes avec toi mes préceptes,
2 that thin eere here wisdom, bowe thin herte to knowe prudence.
rendant ton oreille attentive à la sagesse, et inclinant ton cœur vers l’intelligence;
3 For if thou inwardli clepist wisdom, and bowist thin herte to prudence;
oui, si tu appelles la prudence, et si tu élèves ta voix vers l’intelligence,
4 if thou sekist it as money, and diggist it out as tresours;
si tu la cherches comme l’argent, et si tu la creuses comme pour découvrir un trésor; —
5 thanne thou schalt vndirstonde the drede of the Lord, and schalt fynde the kunnyng of God.
alors tu comprendras la crainte de Yahweh, et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.
6 For the Lord yyueth wisdom; and prudence and kunnyng is of his mouth.
Car Yahweh donne la sagesse, de sa bouche sortent la science et la prudence;
7 He schal kepe the heelthe of riytful men, and he schal defende hem that goen sympli.
il garde le bonheur pour les hommes droits, il est un bouclier pour ceux qui marchent dans la perfection,
8 And he schal kepe the pathis of riytfulnesse, and he schal kepe the weies of hooli men.
il protège les sentiers de l’équité, il veille sur la voie de ses fidèles. —
9 Thanne thou schalt vndirstonde riytfulnesse, and dom, and equytee, and ech good path.
Alors tu comprendras la justice, l’équité, la droiture et tous les sentiers du bien.
10 If wysdom entrith in to thin herte, and kunnyng plesith thi soule,
Lorsque la sagesse viendra dans ton cœur, et que la science fera les délices de ton âme,
11 good councel schal kepe thee, and prudence schal kepe thee; that thou be delyuered fro an yuel weie,
la réflexion veillera sur toi, et l’intelligence te gardera,
12 and fro a man that spekith weiward thingis.
pour te délivrer de la voie du mal, de l’homme qui tient des discours pervers,
13 Whiche forsaken a riytful weie, and goen bi derk weies;
de ceux qui abandonnent les droits sentiers, afin de marcher dans des chemins ténébreux,
14 whiche ben glad, whanne thei han do yuel, and maken ful out ioye in worste thingis;
qui se réjouissent de faire le mal, et mettent leur plaisir dans les pires perversités,
15 whose weies ben weywerd, and her goyingis ben of yuel fame.
dont les sentiers sont tortueux et qui suivent des voies obliques; —
16 That thou be delyuered fro an alien womman, and fro a straunge womman, that makith soft hir wordis;
pour te délivrer de la femme qui est à un autre, de l’étrangère qui use de paroles doucereuses,
17 and forsakith the duyk of hir tyme of mariage,
qui abandonne le compagnon de sa jeunesse, et oublie l’alliance de son Dieu;
18 and hath foryete the couenaunt of hir God. For the hous of hir is bowid to deeth, and hir pathis to helle.
car elle penche avec sa maison vers la mort, et sa route conduit aux enfers;
19 Alle that entren to hir, schulen not turne ayen, nether schulen catche the pathis of lijf.
de tous ceux qui vont à elle, nul ne revient, aucun ne retrouve les sentiers de la vie.
20 That thou go in a good weie, and kepe the pathis of iust men.
Ainsi tu marcheras dans la voie des hommes de bien, et tu garderas les sentiers des justes.
21 Forsothe thei that ben riytful, schulen dwelle in the lond; and symple men schulen perfitli dwelle ther ynne.
Car les hommes droits habiteront la terre et les hommes intègres y demeureront;
22 But vnfeithful men schulen be lost fro the loond; and thei that doen wickidli, schulen be takun awey fro it.
mais les méchants seront retranchés de la terre, et les infidèles en seront arrachés.
