Proverbs 19
1 Betere is a pore man, that goith in his simplenesse, than a riche man bitynge hise lippis, and vnwijs.
Mieux vaut un pauvre qui marche en sa simplicité qu’un riche qui tord ses lèvres et qui est insensé.
2 Where is not kunnyng of the soule, is not good; and he that is hasti, in feet hirtith.
Où n’est point la science de l’âme, il n’y a pas de bien: et celui qui hâte ses pieds tombera.
3 The foli of a man disseyueth hise steppis; and he brenneth in his soule ayens God.
La folie de l’homme renverse ses pas; et contre Dieu il brûle de colère en son cœur.
4 Richessis encreessen ful many freendis; forsothe also thei ben departid fro a pore man, whiche he hadde.
Les richesses donnent beaucoup de nouveaux amis; mais ceux mêmes qu’avait le pauvre se séparent de lui.
5 A fals witnesse schal not be vnpunyschid; and he that spekith leesingis, schal not ascape.
Un témoin faux ne sera pas impuni; et celui qui dit des mensonges n’échappera pas.
6 Many men onouren the persoone of a myyti man; and ben frendis of hym that deelith yiftis.
Beaucoup honorent la personne d’un homme puissant, et sont amis de celui qui donne des présents.
7 The britheren of a pore man haten hym; ferthermore and the freendis yeden awei fer fro hym. He that sueth wordis oonli, schal haue no thing;
Les frères d’un homme pauvre le haïssent: en outre ses amis mêmes se retirent loin de lui. Celui qui court seulement après les paroles n’aura rien.
8 but he that holdith stabli the mynde, loueth his soule, and the kepere of prudence schal fynde goodis.
Mais celui qui possède de l’intelligence aime son âme, et celui qui garde la prudence trouvera des biens.
9 A fals witnesse schal not be vnpunyschid; and he that spekith leesyngis, schal perische.
Un faux témoin ne sera pas impuni, et celui qui dit des mensonges périra.
10 Delices bicomen not a fool; nether `it bicometh a seruaunt to be lord of princes.
À l’insensé ne conviennent pas les délices, ni à l’esclave la domination sur les princes.
11 The teching of a man is knowun bi pacience; and his glorie is to passe ouere wickid thingis.
La doctrine d’un homme se connaît à sa patience, et sa gloire est de laisser de côté les choses iniques.
12 As the gnasting of a lioun, so and the ire of the king; and as deewe on eerbe, so and the gladnesse of the kyng.
Comme est le rugissement du hon, ainsi est la colère du roi; et comme la rosée qui tombe sur l’herbe, ainsi son hilarité.
13 The sorewe of the fadir is a fonned sone; and roofes droppynge contynueli is a womman ful of chiding.
La douleur d’un père est un fils insensé; et ce sont des toits continuellement dégouttants qu’une femme querelleuse.
14 Housis and richessis ben youun of fadir and modir; but a prudent wijf is youun propirli of the Lord.
La maison et les richesses sont données par les pères; mais c’est par le Seigneur proprement qu’est donnée une femme prudente.
15 Slouth bringith in sleep; and a negligent soule schal haue hungur.
La paresse envoie l’assoupissement; et l’âme indolente aura faim.
16 He that kepith the comaundement of God, kepith his soule; but he that chargith not his weie, schal be slayn.
Celui qui garde le commandement garde son âme; mais celui qui néglige sa voie trouvera la mort.
17 He that hath mercy on a pore man, leeneth to the Lord; and he schal yelde his while to hym.
Celui-là prête à intérêt au Seigneur, qui a pitié du pauvre; et il lui rendra son bienfait.
18 Teche thi sone, and dispeire thou not; but sette thou not thi soule to the sleyng of hym.
Corrige ton fils, n’en désespère pas; mais à le tuer ne dispose pas ton âme.
19 Forsothe he that is vnpacient, schal suffre harm; and whanne he hath rauyschid, he schal leie to anothir thing.
Celui qui est impatient en souffrira du dommage; et s’il prend quelque chose avec violence, il prendra encore autre chose.
20 Here thou counsel, and take thou doctryn; that thou be wijs in thi laste thingis.
Ecoute le conseil et reçois la discipline, afin que tu sois sage dans tes derniers moments.
21 Many thouytis ben in the herte of a man; but the wille of the Lord schal dwelle.
Il y a beaucoup de pensées dans le cœur de l’homme; mais la volonté du Seigneur demeurera à jamais.
22 A nedi man is merciful; and betere is a pore iust man, than a man liere.
L’homme indigent est miséricordieux; et mieux vaut le pauvre que l’homme menteur.
23 The drede of the Lord ledith to lijf `of blis; and he `that dredith God schal dwelle in plentee, with outen visityng `of the worste.
La crainte du Seigneur conduit à la vie: elle reposera dans l’abondance sans être visitée par le mal.
24 A slow man hidith his hond vndur the armpit; and putteth it not to his mouth.
Le paresseux cache sa main sous son aisselle; et il ne la porte pas à sa bouche.
25 Whanne a man ful of pestilence is betun, a fool schal be wisere. If thou blamist a wijs man, he schal vndurstonde techyng.
L’homme pernicieux ayant été flagellé, l’insensé deviendra plus sage: mais, si tu reprends le sage, il comprendra la discipline.
26 He that turmentith the fadir, and fleeth fro the modir, schal be ful of yuel fame, and schal be cursid.
Celui qui afflige son père et met en fuite sa mère est ignominieux et malheureux.
27 Sone, ceesse thou not to here techyng; and knowe thou the wordis of kunnyng.
Ne cesse pas mon fils, d’écouter la doctrine; n’ignore pas les paroles de la science.
28 A wickid witnesse scorneth doom; and the mouth of vnpitouse men deuourith wickidnesse.
Un témoin inique se raille du jugement; et la bouche des impies dévore l’iniquité.
29 Domes ben maad redi to scorneris; and hameris smytynge ben maad redi to the bodies of foolis.
Les jugements sont préparés pour les railleurs; et les marteaux pour frapper les corps des insensés.
