Proverbs 14
1 A wijs womman bildith hir hous; and an unwijs womman schal distrie with hondis an hous bildid.
बुद्धिमान स्त्री एक सशक्त परिवार का निर्माण करती है, किंतु मूर्ख अपने ही हाथों से उसे नष्ट कर देती है.
2 A man goynge in riytful weie, and dredinge God, is dispisid of hym, that goith in a weie of yuel fame.
जिस किसी के जीवन में याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा है, उसके जीवन में सच्चाई है; परंतु वह जो प्रभु को तुच्छ समझता है, उसका आचरण छल से भरा हुआ है!
3 The yerde of pride is in the mouth of a fool; the lippis of wijs men kepen hem.
मूर्ख के मुख से निकले शब्द ही उसके दंड के कारक बन जाते हैं, किंतु बुद्धिमानों के होंठों से निकले शब्द उनकी रक्षा करते हैं.
4 Where oxis ben not, the cratche is void; but where ful many cornes apperen, there the strengthe of oxe is opyn.
जहां बैल ही नहीं हैं, वहां गौशाला स्वच्छ रहती है, किंतु बैलों की शक्ति से ही धन की भरपूरी निहित है.
5 A feithful witnesse schal not lie; a gileful witnesse bringith forth a leesing.
विश्वासयोग्य साक्षी छल नहीं करता, किंतु झूठे साक्षी के मुख से झूठ ही झूठ बाहर आता है.
6 A scornere sekith wisdom, and he fyndith not; the teching of prudent men is esy.
छिछोरा व्यक्ति ज्ञान की खोज कर सकता है, किंतु उसे प्राप्त नहीं कर पाता, हां, जिसमें समझ होती है, उसे ज्ञान की उपलब्धि सरलतापूर्वक हो जाती है.
7 Go thou ayens a man a fool; and he schal not knowe the lippis of prudence.
मूर्ख की संगति से दूर ही रहना, अन्यथा ज्ञान की बात तुम्हारी समझ से परे ही रहेगी.
8 The wisdom of a fel man is to vndirstonde his weie; and the vnwarnesse of foolis errith.
विवेकी की बुद्धिमता इसी में होती है, कि वह उपयुक्त मार्ग की विवेचना कर लेता है, किंतु मूर्खों की मूर्खता धोखा है.
9 A fool scorneth synne; grace schal dwelle among iust men.
दोष बलि मूर्खों के लिए ठट्ठा का विषय होता है, किंतु खरे के मध्य होता है अनुग्रह.
10 The herte that knowith the bittirnesse of his soule; a straunger schal not be meddlid in the ioie therof.
मनुष्य को स्वयं अपने मन की पीडा का बोध रहता है और अज्ञात व्यक्ति हृदय के आनंद में सम्मिलित नहीं होता.
11 The hous of wickid men schal be don awei; the tabernaclis of iust men schulen buriowne.
दुष्ट के घर-परिवार का नष्ट होना निश्चित है, किंतु धर्मी का डेरा भरा-पूरा रहता है.
12 Sotheli a weie is, that semeth iust to a man; but the laste thingis therof leden forth to deth.
एक ऐसा भी मार्ग है, जो उपयुक्त जान पड़ता है, किंतु इसका अंत है मृत्यु-द्वार.
13 Leiyyng schal be medlid with sorewe; and morenyng ocupieth the laste thingis of ioye.
हंसता हुआ व्यक्ति भी अपने हृदय में वेदना छुपाए रख सकता है, और हर्ष के बाद शोक भी हो सकता है.
14 A fool schal be fillid with hise weies; and a good man schal be aboue hym.
विश्वासहीन व्यक्ति अपनी ही नीतियों का परिणाम भोगेगा, किंतु धर्मी अपनी नीतियों का.
15 An innocent man bileueth to eche word; a felle man biholdith hise goyngis.
मूर्ख जो कुछ सुनता है उस पर विश्वास करता जाता है, किंतु विवेकी व्यक्ति सोच-विचार कर पैर उठाता है.
16 A wijs man dredith, and bowith awei fro yuel; a fool skippith ouer, and tristith.
बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति वह है, जो याहवेह का भय मानता, और बुरी जीवनशैली से दूर ही दूर रहता है; किंतु निर्बुद्धि अहंकारी और असावधान होता है.
17 A man vnpacient schal worche foli; and a gileful man is odiouse.
वह, जो शीघ्र क्रोधी हो जाता है, मूर्ख है, तथा वह जो बुराई की युक्ति करता है, घृणा का पात्र होता है.
18 Litle men of wit schulen holde foli; and felle men schulen abide kunnyng.
निर्बुद्धियों को प्रतिफल में मूर्खता ही प्राप्त होती है, किंतु बुद्धिमान मुकुट से सुशोभित किए जाते हैं.
19 Yuel men schulen ligge bifor goode men; and vnpitouse men bifor the yatis of iust men.
अंततः बुराई को भलाई के समक्ष झुकना ही पड़ता है, तथा दुष्टों को भले लोगों के द्वार के समक्ष.
20 A pore man schal be hateful, yhe, to his neiybore; but many men ben frendis of riche men.
पड़ोसियों के लिए भी निर्धन घृणा का पात्र हो जाता है, किंतु अनेक हैं, जो धनाढ्य के मित्र हो जाते हैं.
21 He that dispisith his neiybore, doith synne; but he that doith merci to a pore man, schal be blessid. He that bileueth in the Lord, loueth merci;
वह, जो अपने पड़ोसी से घृणा करता है, पाप करता है, किंतु वह धन्य होता है, जो निर्धनों के प्रति उदार एवं कृपालु होता है.
22 thei erren that worchen yuel. Merci and treuthe maken redi goodis;
क्या वे मार्ग से भटक नहीं गये, जिनकी अभिलाषा ही दुष्कर्म की होती है? वे, जो भलाई का यत्न करते रहते हैं. उन्हें सच्चाई तथा निर्जर प्रेम प्राप्त होता है.
23 abundaunce `schal be in ech good werk. Sotheli where ful many wordis ben, there nedynesse is ofte.
श्रम किसी भी प्रकार का हो, लाभांश अवश्य प्राप्त होता है, किंतु मात्र बातें करते रहने का परिणाम होता है गरीबी.
24 The coroun of wise men is the richessis of hem; the fooli of foolis is vnwarnesse.
बुद्धिमान समृद्धि से सुशोभित होते हैं, किंतु मूर्खों की मूर्खता और अधिक गरीबी उत्पन्न करती है.
25 A feithful witnesse delyuereth soulis; and a fals man bringith forth leesyngis.
सच्चा साक्षी अनेकों के जीवन को सुरक्षित रखता है, किंतु झूठा गवाह धोखेबाज है.
26 In the drede of the Lord is triste of strengthe; and hope schal be to the sones of it.
जिसके हृदय में याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा होती है, उसे दृढ़ गढ़ प्राप्त हो जाता है, उसकी संतान सदैव सुरक्षित रहेगी.
27 The drede of the Lord is a welle of lijf; that it bowe awei fro the fallyng of deth.
याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा ही जीवन का सोता है, उससे मानव मृत्यु के द्वारा बिछाए गए जाल से बचता जाएगा.
28 The dignite of the king is in the multitude of puple; and the schenschipe of a prince is in the fewnesse of puple.
प्रजा की विशाल जनसंख्या राजा के लिए गौरव का विषय होती है, किंतु प्रजा के अभाव में प्रशासक नगण्य रह जाता है.
29 He that is pacient, is gouerned bi myche wisdom; but he that is vnpacient, enhaunsith his foli.
वह बुद्धिमान ही होता है, जिसका अपने क्रोधावेग पर नियंत्रण होता है, किंतु जिसे शीघ्र ही क्रोध आ जाता है, वह मूर्खता की वृद्धि करता है.
30 Helthe of herte is the lijf of fleischis; enuye is rot of boonys.
शांत हृदय देह के लिए संजीवनी सिद्ध होता है, किंतु ईर्ष्या अस्थियों में लगे घुन-समान है.
31 He that falsli chalengith a nedi man, dispisith his maker; but he that hath merci on a pore man, onourith that makere.
वह, जो निर्धन को उत्पीड़ित करता है, उसके सृजनहार को अपमानित करता है, किंतु वह, जो निर्धन के प्रति उदारता प्रदर्शित करता है, उसके सृजनहार को सम्मानित करता है.
32 A wickid man is put out for his malice; but a iust man hopith in his deth.
दुष्ट के विनाश का कारण उसी के कुकृत्य होते हैं, किंतु धर्मी अपनी मृत्यु के अवसर पर निराश्रित नहीं छूट जाता.
33 Wisdom restith in the herte of a wijs man; and he schal teche alle vnlerned men.
बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति के हृदय में ज्ञान का निवास होता है, किंतु मूर्खों के हृदय में ज्ञान गुनहगार अवस्था में रख दिया जाता है.
34 Riytfulnesse reisith a folc; synne makith puplis wretchis.
धार्मिकता ही राष्ट्र को उन्नत बनाती है, किंतु किसी भी समाज के लिए पाप निंदनीय ही होता है.
35 A mynystre vndurstondynge is acceptable to a kyng; a mynystre vnprofitable schal suffre the wrathfulnesse of him.
चतुर सेवक राजा का प्रिय पात्र होता है, किंतु वह सेवक, जो लज्जास्पद काम करता है, राजा का कोप को भड़काता है.
