Numbers 5
1 And the Lord spak to Moises, and seide, Comaunde thou to the sones of Israel,
Yahvé parla à Moïse, et dit:
2 that thei caste out of the castels ech leprouse man, and that fletith out seed, and is defoulid on a deed bodi; caste ye out of the castels,
« Ordonne aux enfants d'Israël de faire sortir du camp tout lépreux, toute personne qui a des pertes, et quiconque est souillé par un cadavre.
3 as wel a male as a female, lest thei defoulen tho, whanne thei dwellen with you.
Tu feras sortir du camp l'homme et la femme, afin qu'ils ne souillent pas leur camp, au milieu duquel j'habite. »
4 And the sones of Israel diden so; and thei castiden hem out of the castels, as the Lord spak to Moises.
Les enfants d'Israël firent ainsi, et les mirent hors du camp; les enfants d'Israël firent ce que l'Éternel avait dit à Moïse.
5 And the Lord spak to Moises,
Yahvé parla à Moïse et dit:
6 and seide, Speke thou to the sones of Israel, Whanne a man ethir a womman han do of alle synnes that ben wont to falle to men, and han broke bi necgligence the `comaundement of the Lord,
Parle aux enfants d'Israël: « Lorsqu'un homme ou une femme commettra un des péchés que commettent les hommes, au point de porter atteinte à Yahvé, et que cette âme sera coupable,
7 and han trespassid, thei schulen knowleche her synne, and thei schulen yelde thilke heed, and the fyuethe part aboue, to hym ayens whom thei synneden.
il confessera le péché qu'il a commis; il restituera la totalité de sa faute, y ajoutera un cinquième et la donnera à celui pour qui il s'est rendu coupable.
8 But if noon is that schal resseyue thei schulen yyue to the Lord, and it schal be the preestis part, outakun the ram which is offrid for clensyng, that it be a quemeful sacrifice.
Mais si l'homme n'a pas de parent à qui restituer la culpabilité, la restitution de la culpabilité qui sera faite à Yahvé appartiendra au prêtre, en plus du bélier d'expiation, par lequel l'expiation sera faite pour lui.
9 Also alle the firste fruytis, whiche the sones of Israel offren, perteynen to the preest;
Toute offrande par élévation de toutes les choses saintes des enfants d'Israël, qu'ils présenteront au sacrificateur, lui appartiendra.
10 and what euer thing is offrid of ech man in the seyntuarie, and is youun to the `hondis of the preest, it schal be the preestis part.
Les choses saintes de chacun seront à lui; tout ce que quelqu'un donnera au prêtre sera à lui.'"
11 And the Lord spak to Moises,
Yahvé parla à Moïse, et dit:
12 and seide, Speke thou to the sones of Israel, and thou schalt seie to hem, If `the wijf of a man hath errid, and hath dispisid the hosebonde,
« Parle aux enfants d'Israël, et dis-leur: Si la femme d'un homme s'égare et lui est infidèle,
13 and hath slept with another man, and the hosebonde may not take ether preue this, but the auowtrye is hid, and may not be preuyd bi witnessis, for sche is not foundun in leccherie;
et qu'un homme couche avec elle charnellement, et que cela soit caché aux yeux de son mari, et que cela reste caché, et qu'elle soit souillée, il n'y a pas de témoin contre elle, et elle n'est pas prise sur le fait;
14 if the spirit of gelousie stirith the housebonde ayens his wijf, which is ether defoulid, ethir is apechid bi fals suspecioun,
et l'esprit de jalousie vient sur lui, et il est jaloux de sa femme et elle est souillée; ou si l'esprit de jalousie vient sur lui, et il est jaloux de sa femme et elle n'est pas souillée;
15 the man schal brynge hir to the preest, and he schal offre an offryng for hir `the tenthe part of a mesure clepid satum of barli meele; he schal not schede oyle ther onne, nethir he schal putte encense, for it is the sacrifice of gelousie, and an offryng enquerynge auowtrye.
alors l'homme amènera sa femme au prêtre, et il apportera pour elle une offrande: un dixième d'un épha de farine d'orge. Il ne versera pas d'huile dessus et n'y mettra pas d'encens, car c'est une offrande de jalousie, une offrande de souvenir, pour rappeler l'iniquité.
16 Therfor the preest schal offre hir, and schal sette bifore the Lord;
Le prêtre la fera approcher et la présentera devant l'Éternel.
17 and he schal take holi watir in `a vessel of erthe, and he schal putte in to it a litil of the erthe of the pawment of the tabernacle.
Le prêtre prendra de l'eau bénite dans un vase de terre; il prendra un peu de la poussière qui est sur le sol du tabernacle et la mettra dans l'eau.
18 And whanne the womman stondith in the siyt of the Lord, he schal diskyuere hir heed, and he schal putte `on the hondis of hir the sacrifice of remembryng, and the offryng of gelousie. Sotheli he schal holde moost bittir watris, in whiche he gaderide togidere cursis with cursyng.
Le prêtre placera la femme devant l'Éternel, il détachera les cheveux de la tête de la femme, et il mettra dans ses mains l'offrande de farine commémorative, qui est l'offrande de farine de jalousie. Le prêtre aura dans sa main l'eau amère qui apporte la malédiction.
19 And he schal conioure hir, and schal seie, If an alien man slepte not with thee, and if thou art not defoulid in the forsakyng the bed of the hosebonde, these bittereste watris schulen not anoye thee, in to whiche Y haue gaderid togidere cursis;
Le prêtre lui fera prêter serment et dira à la femme: « Si aucun homme n'a couché avec toi, et si tu ne t'es pas égarée dans l'impureté, étant sous l'autorité de ton mari, libère-toi de cette eau amère qui entraîne la malédiction.
20 ellis if thou bowidst awei fro thin hosebonde, and art defoulid, and hast leyn with another man,
Mais si tu t'es égarée, étant sous l'autorité de ton mari, et si tu t'es souillée, et qu'un homme a couché avec toi en dehors de ton mari - »
21 thou schalt be suget to these cursyngys; the Lord yyue thee in to cursyng, and in to ensaumple of alle men in his puple; `the Lord make thin hipe to wexe rotun, and thi wombe swelle, and be brokun;
alors le prêtre fera jurer la femme avec le serment de malédiction, et le prêtre dira à la femme: « Que Yahvé te maudisse et te fasse jurer parmi ton peuple, lorsque Yahvé permettra que ta cuisse se dérobe et que ton corps se gonfle;
22 cursid watris entre in to thi wombe, and while the wombe swellith, thin hipe wexe rotun. And the womman schal answere, Amen! amen!
et que cette eau qui apporte la malédiction entrera dans tes entrailles, fera gonfler ton corps et tomber ta cuisse ». La femme dira: « Amen, Amen. »
23 And the preest schal write thes cursis in a litil book, and he schal do awey tho cursis with bittereste watris, in to whiche he gaderide cursis,
"'Le prêtre écrira ces malédictions dans un livre, et il les fera passer dans l'eau d'amertume.
24 and he schal yyue to hir to drynke. And whanne sche hath drunke tho watris,
Il fera boire à la femme l'eau amère qui provoque la malédiction; l'eau qui provoque la malédiction entrera en elle et deviendra amère.
25 the preest schal take of hir hond the sacrifice of gelousie, and he schal reise it bifor the Lord, and he schal putte on the auter;
Le prêtre prendra de la main de la femme l'offrande de jalousie; il agitera l'offrande devant l'Éternel et l'apportera sur l'autel.
26 so oneli that he take bifore an handful of sacrifice `of that that is offrid, and brenne on the auter, and so yyue drynke to the womman the moost bittere watris.
Le prêtre prendra une poignée de l'offrande de farine, comme portion commémorative, et il la brûlera sur l'autel; ensuite, il fera boire l'eau à la femme.
27 And whanne sche hath drunke tho watris, if sche is defoulid, and is gilti of auowtrie, for the hosebonde is dispisid, the watris of cursyng schulen passe thorouy hir, and while the wombe is bolnyd, the hipe schal wexe rotun, and the womman schal be in to cursyng and in to ensaumple to al the puple.
Lorsqu'il lui aura fait boire l'eau, il arrivera, si elle s'est souillée et a commis une infidélité envers son mari, que l'eau qui est à l'origine de la malédiction entrera en elle et deviendra amère, que son corps enflera, que sa cuisse tombera, et que la femme sera maudite parmi son peuple.
28 That if sche is not pollutid, sche schal be harmeles, and schal brynge forth fre children.
Si la femme n'est pas souillée, mais qu'elle est pure, alors elle sera libre et concevra une progéniture.
29 This is the lawe of gelousie, if a womman bowith awei fro hir hosebonde, and is defoulid,
"'Voici la loi de la jalousie, lorsqu'une femme, sous l'autorité de son mari, s'égare et se souille,
30 and the hosebonde is stirid with the spirit of gelousye, and bryngith hir in to the `siyt of the Lord, and the preest doith to hir bi alle thingis that ben writun, the hosebonde schal be with out synne,
ou lorsque l'esprit de jalousie s'empare d'un homme et qu'il est jaloux de sa femme; alors il présentera la femme devant Yahvé, et le prêtre exécutera sur elle toute cette loi.
31 and sche schal resseyue hir wickidnesse.
L'homme sera libéré de son iniquité, et la femme portera son iniquité.'"
