Numbers 25
1 Forsothe in that tyme Israel dwellide in Sechym; and the puple dide fornycacioun with the douytris of Moab;
Cuando Israel vivía en Sitim, y el pueblo empezó a fornicar con las hijas de Moab:
2 whiche douytris clepiden hem to her sacrifices, and thei eten, and worschipiden the goddis of tho douytris;
Porque enviaron para que la gente estuviera presente en las ofrendas hechas a sus dioses; y la gente tomó parte en sus fiestas y honró a sus dioses.
3 and Israel made sacrifice to Belphegor. And the Lord was wrooth,
Así que Israel tuvo relaciones con las mujeres de Moab en honor del Baal-Peor. Y el Señor se enfureció contra Israel.
4 and seide to Moises, Take thou alle the princes of the puple, and hange hem ayens the sunne in iebatis, that my wodnesse, `that is stronge veniaunce, be turned awai fro Israel.
Entonces el Señor le dijo a Moisés: Toma a todos los jefes del pueblo, ahorcarlos y ponlos en el sol delante del Señor, para que la ira del Señor se aparte de Israel.
5 And Moises seide to the iugis of Israel, Ech man sle his neiyboris, that maden sacrifice to Belphagor.
Entonces Moisés dijo a los jueces de Israel: Maten a todos aquellos de sus hombres que han tenido relaciones con las mujeres de Moab en honor al Baal de Peor.
6 And, lo! oon of the sones of Israel entride bifor his britheren to `an hoore of Madian, in the siyt of Moises, and al the cumpeny of the sones of Israel, whiche wepten bifor the yatis of the tabernacle.
Entonces uno de los hijos de Israel se acercó a sus hermanos, llevando consigo a una mujer de Madián, ante los ojos de Moisés y de toda la reunión del pueblo, mientras lloraban a la puerta de la Tienda de reunión.
7 And whanne Phynees, the sone of Eleazar, sone of Aaron, preest, hadde seyn this, he roos fro the myddis of the multitude; and whanne he hadde take a swerd,
Y al ver Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón el sacerdote, se levantó de entre el pueblo y tomó una lanza en su mano.
8 he entride aftir the man of Israel in to the `hoore hows, and stikide thorou both togidere, that is, the man and the womman, in the places of gendryng. And the veniaunce ceesside fro the sones of Israel,
Y fue tras el hombre de Israel a la tienda, conduciendo la lanza a través de los dos, a través del hombre de Israel y a través del estómago de la mujer. Así se detuvo la enfermedad entre los hijos de Israel.
9 and foure and twenti thousand of men weren slayn.
Pero veinticuatro mil de ellos habían muerto por la enfermedad.
10 And the Lord seide to Moises,
Y él Señor dijo a Moisés:
11 Fynees, the sone of Eleazar, sone of Aaron, preest, turnede away myn yre fro the sones of Israel; for he was stirid ayens hem bi my feruent loue, that Y my silf schulde not do awai the sones of Israel in my greet hete, `ether strong veniaunce.
A través de Finees, y debido a su pasión por mi honor, mi ira ha sido apartada de los hijos de Israel, por lo que no he enviado destrucción sobre ellos en mi ira.
12 Therfor speke thou to hym, Lo! Y yyue to hym the pees of my couenaunt,
Entonces diles a ellos que les doy un acuerdo de paz.
13 and it schal be an euerlastynge couenaunt of preesthod, as wel to hym silf as to his seed; for he louyde feruentli for his God, and he clenside the greet trespas of the sones of Israel.
Y por este acuerdo, él y sus hijos después de él tienen el derecho de ser sacerdotes para siempre; porque, por su cuidado por el honor de su Dios, quitó el pecado de los hijos de Israel.
14 Forsothe the name of the man of Israel, that was slayn with the womman of Madian, was Zambri, the sone of Salu, duyk of the kynrede and lynage of Symeon.
Ahora bien, el hombre de Israel que fue condenado a muerte con la mujer de Madián fue Zimri, el hijo de Salu, el jefe de una de las familias de Simeón.
15 Forsothe the womman of Madian that was slayn togidere, was clepid Cobri, the douyter of Sur, the nobleste prince of Madianytis.
Y la mujer de Madián que fue condenada a muerte fue Cozbi, la hija de Zur; Él era el jefe de una familia en Madián.
16 And the Lord spak to Moises and seide,
Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés:
17 `Madianytis feele you enemyes, and smyte ye hem;
Hostiguen a los madianitas y atácalos;
18 for also thei diden enemyliche ayens you, and disseyueden thorow tresouns, bi the idol of Phegor, and bi `the douyter of Corbri, duyk of Madian, her sister, which douyter was sleyn in the dai of veniaunce, for the sacrilege of Phegor.
Porque así como los afligieron con sus engaños, con los que los engañaron a ustedes al adorar a Baal-Peor, y en él caso de Cozbi, su hermana, la hija del jefe de Midian, quien fue ejecutada en el momento de la enfermedad que vino sobre ustedes por causa de Baal-Peor.
