Numbers 25
1 Forsothe in that tyme Israel dwellide in Sechym; and the puple dide fornycacioun with the douytris of Moab;
Mientras Israel acampaba en Sitim, comenzó el pueblo a fornicar con las hijas de Moab.
2 whiche douytris clepiden hem to her sacrifices, and thei eten, and worschipiden the goddis of tho douytris;
Estas invitaron al pueblo, a los sacrificios de sus dioses; y comió el pueblo y se postró ante los dioses de ellas.
3 and Israel made sacrifice to Belphegor. And the Lord was wrooth,
Y se allegó Israel a Baalfegor, por lo cual la ira de Yahvé se encendió contra Israel.
4 and seide to Moises, Take thou alle the princes of the puple, and hange hem ayens the sunne in iebatis, that my wodnesse, `that is stronge veniaunce, be turned awai fro Israel.
Y dijo Yahvé a Moisés: “Toma a todos los jefes del pueblo, y cuélgalos ante Yahvé cara al sol, para que la ardiente ira de Yahvé se aparte de Israel.”
5 And Moises seide to the iugis of Israel, Ech man sle his neiyboris, that maden sacrifice to Belphagor.
Dijo, pues, Moisés a los jueces de Israel: “Mate cada uno de vosotros a los suyos que se han entregado a Baalfegor.”
6 And, lo! oon of the sones of Israel entride bifor his britheren to `an hoore of Madian, in the siyt of Moises, and al the cumpeny of the sones of Israel, whiche wepten bifor the yatis of the tabernacle.
En esto he aquí que uno de los hijos de Israel venia trayendo a casa de sus hermanos una mujer madianita, a vista de Moisés y a vista de toda la Congregación de los hijos de Israel, que lloraban a la entrada del Tabernáculo de la Reunión.
7 And whanne Phynees, the sone of Eleazar, sone of Aaron, preest, hadde seyn this, he roos fro the myddis of the multitude; and whanne he hadde take a swerd,
Viéndolo Finés, hijo de Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, se levantó de en medio de la Congregación, tomó una lanza en la mano,
8 he entride aftir the man of Israel in to the `hoore hows, and stikide thorou both togidere, that is, the man and the womman, in the places of gendryng. And the veniaunce ceesside fro the sones of Israel,
y entró tras el israelita en el interior de la tienda, y atravesó a entrambos, al israelita y a la mujer, por el vientre, con lo cual cesó la plaga de los hijos de Israel.
9 and foure and twenti thousand of men weren slayn.
En aquella plaga fueron muertas veinte y cuatro mil personas.
10 And the Lord seide to Moises,
Entonces habló Yahvé a Moisés, diciendo:
11 Fynees, the sone of Eleazar, sone of Aaron, preest, turnede away myn yre fro the sones of Israel; for he was stirid ayens hem bi my feruent loue, that Y my silf schulde not do awai the sones of Israel in my greet hete, `ether strong veniaunce.
“Finés, hijo de Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, ha apartado mi furor de los hijos de Israel, por cuanto se dejó arrebatar del celo mío en medio de ellos. Por eso Yo en mi celo no acabé con los hijos de Israel.
12 Therfor speke thou to hym, Lo! Y yyue to hym the pees of my couenaunt,
Dile, pues: He aquí que Yo establezco con él mi pacto de paz;
13 and it schal be an euerlastynge couenaunt of preesthod, as wel to hym silf as to his seed; for he louyde feruentli for his God, and he clenside the greet trespas of the sones of Israel.
el cual será para él, y para sus descendientes después de él, pacto de un sacerdocio eterno, porque ha sido celoso de su Dios y ha hecho expiación por los hijos de Israel.”
14 Forsothe the name of the man of Israel, that was slayn with the womman of Madian, was Zambri, the sone of Salu, duyk of the kynrede and lynage of Symeon.
El israelita que fue muerto juntamente con la madianita, se llamaba Zamrí, hijo de Salú, príncipe de una familia de los Simeonitas.
15 Forsothe the womman of Madian that was slayn togidere, was clepid Cobri, the douyter of Sur, the nobleste prince of Madianytis.
Y el nombre de la mujer madianita que fue muerta, era Cozbí, hija de Sur, jefe de una de las estirpes de Madián.
16 And the Lord spak to Moises and seide,
Habló después Yahvé a Moisés, y dijo:
17 `Madianytis feele you enemyes, and smyte ye hem;
“Tratad a los madianitas como enemigos y matadlos,
18 for also thei diden enemyliche ayens you, and disseyueden thorow tresouns, bi the idol of Phegor, and bi `the douyter of Corbri, duyk of Madian, her sister, which douyter was sleyn in the dai of veniaunce, for the sacrilege of Phegor.
porque como enemigos se han portado contra vosotros, aplicando sus ardides, con los cuales os sedujeron por medio de Fegor y por medio de Cozbí, hija de un príncipe de Madián, su hermana, la cual fue muerta en el día de la plaga a causa de Fegor.”
