Numbers 21
1 And whanne Chananei, the kyng of Arad, that dwellide at the south, hadde herd this, that is, that Israel cam bi the weye of aspieris, he fauyt ayens hem; and Chananei was ouercomere and ledde pray of Israel.
Cuando el cananeo, el rey de Arad, que habitaba el Négueb, oyó decir que Israel venía por el camino de Atarim, atacó a Israel y le tomó prisioneros.
2 And Israel bounde hym sylf bi avow to the Lord, and seide, If thou schalt bitake this puple in myn hond, Y schal do awei `the citees therof.
Entonces Israel hizo voto a Yahvé, diciendo: “Si entregares a este pueblo en mi mano, destruiré completamente sus ciudades.”
3 And the Lord herde the preieris of Israel, and bitook the Chananey; and Israel killid hym, and distruyede hise citees; and clepide the name of that place Horma, that is, cursyng, `ethir hangyng up.
Oyó Yahvé la voz de Israel y le entregó el cananeo, y destruyeron completamente a ellos y a sus ciudades, por lo cual fue llamado aquel lugar Hormá.
4 `Forsothe thei yeden forth also fro the hil of Hor, bi the weie that ledith to the reed see, that thei schulden cumpasse the lond of Edom; and it bigan to anoye the puple, of the weie and trauel.
Partieron del monte Hor, camino del Mar Rojo para rodear la tierra de Edom. Mas en el camino se impacientó el pueblo,
5 And the puple spak ayens the Lord and Moises, and seide, Whi leddist thou vs out of Egipt, that we schulden die in wildirnesse? breed failith, watris ben not; oure soule wlatith now on this `meete moost liyt.
y murmuró contra Dios y contra Moisés: “¿Por qué nos habéis sacado de Egipto para morir en el desierto? Pues no hay pan, y no hay agua; nos provoca ya náusea este pan miserable.”
6 Wherfor the Lord sente `firid serpentis in to the puple; at the woundis of whiche serpentis, and the dethis of ful many men,
Entonces Yahvé envió contra el pueblo serpientes abrasadoras, las cuales mordían al pueblo; y murió mucha gente de Israel.
7 thei camen to Moyses, and seiden, We synneden, for we spaken ayens the Lord and thee; preie thou, that he take awey fro vs the serpentis.
Y acudió el pueblo a Moisés, diciendo: “Hemos pecado, porque hemos murmurado contra Yahvé y contra ti. Ruega a Yahvé que quite de nosotros las serpientes.” Y Moisés rogó por el pueblo.
8 And Moises preiede for the puple; and the Lord seide to hym, Make thou a serpent of bras, and sette thou it for a signe; he that is smytun and biholdith it, schal lyue.
Dijo entonces Yahvé a Moisés: “Hazte una serpiente, y ponla en un asta; quienquiera que haya sido mordido y la mirare, vivirá.”
9 Therfor Moyses made a serpent of bras, and settide for a signe; and men smytun and biholdynge it, weren heelid.
Hizo, pues, Moisés una serpiente de bronce, y la puso sobre un asta, y quienquiera que mordido por una serpiente dirigía su mirada a la serpiente de bronce se curaba.
10 And the sones of Israel yeden forth,
Levantaron los hijos de Israel el campamento y acamparon en Obot.
11 and settiden tentis in Oboth; fro whennus thei yeden forth, and settiden tentis in Neabarym, in the wildirnesse, that biholdith Moab, ayens the eest coost.
Partidos de Obot, acamparon en Iyé-Abarim, en el desierto frente a Moab, al oriente.
12 And thei moueden fro thennus, and camen to the stronde of Zareth;
Marcharon de allí y acamparon en el valle de Sared.
13 which thei leften, and settiden tentis ayens Arnon, which is in the deseert, and apperith in the coostis of Amorrei. Forsothe Arnon is the terme of Moab, and departith Moabitis and Ammoreis.
De allí partieron para acampar a la otra orilla del Arnón, en el desierto. El Arnón sale del territorio de los amorreos, pues el Arnón es la frontera de Moab, y divide a los moabitas de los amorreos.
14 Wherfor it is seid in the book of batels of the Lord, As he dide in the reed see, so he schal do in the strondis of Arnon;
Por eso se dice en el Libro de las Guerras de Yahvé: “Vaheb en Sufá, y los valles del Arnón
15 the harde rochis of the strondis weren bowid, that tho schulen reste in Arnon, and schulden ligge in the coostis of Moabitis.
y el declive de los valles que desciende en la región de Ar, y se apoya sobre la frontera de Moab.”
16 Fro that place the pit apperide, of which the Lord spak to Moyses, Gadere thou the puple, and Y schal yyue watir to it.
De allí marcharon a Beer. Este es aquel pozo del cual Yahvé dijo a Moisés: “Junta al pueblo y Yo le daré agua.”
17 Thanne Israel soong this song, The pit stie;
Entonces Israel cantó este cántico: “¡Brota, pozo, celebradle con canción!
18 thei sungen togidere, The pit which the princes diggiden, and the duykis of the multitude maden redi, in the yyuere of the lawe, and in her stauys. And thei yeden forth fro the wildirnesse to Mathana,
pozo que cavaron los príncipes; lo abrieron los nobles del pueblo con el cetro, con sus cayados.” Del desierto se dirigieron a Mataná;
19 fro Mathana to Naaliel, fro Naaliel in to Bamoth;
de Mataná, a Nahaliel; de Nahaliel a Bamot;
20 Bamoth is a valey in the cuntrey of Moab, in the cop of Phasga, that biholdith ayens the deseert.
y de Bamot al valle que está en las campiñas de Moab, (al pie de) la cumbre del Fasga que mira hacia el desierto.
21 Forsothe Israel sente messangeris to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, and seide,
Israel envió mensajeros a Sehón, rey de los amorreos, diciendo:
22 Y biseche that it be leueful to me to passe thorou thi loond; we schulen not bowe in to the feeldis and vyneris; we schulen not drynke watris of pittis; we schulen go in the kyngis weie, til we passen thi termes.
“Quiero pasar por tu tierra. No torceremos hacia los campos y viñas, ni beberemos agua de los pozos; por el camino real iremos hasta pasar tus fronteras.”
23 Which nolde graunte that Israel schulde passe thury hise coostis, but rather, whanne the oost was gaderid, he yede out ayens Israel, in to deseert. And he cam in to Yasa, and fauyt ayens Israel;
Mas Sehón no permitió que Israel pasase por su territorio; antes bien, reuniendo Sehón a toda su gente, salió al encuentro de Israel en el desierto, y vino hasta Jahas donde atacó a Israel.
24 of whom he was smytun in the scharpnesse of swerd, and his lond was weldid fro Arnon `til to Jeboth and `the sones of Amon; for the termes of Amonytis weren holdun bi strong help.
Pero Israel lo hirió a filo de espada y se apoderó de su tierra desde el Arnón hasta el Yaboc, hasta los hijos de Ammón, cuya frontera era fortificada.
25 Therfor Israel took alle `the citees of hym, and dwelliden in the citees of Amorrei, that is, in Esebon, and hise townes.
Tomó Israel todas estas ciudades y habitó en todas las ciudades de los amorreos, en Hesbón y todos sus dominios.
26 The citee of Esebon was Seons, kyng of Ammorei, which Seon fauyt ayens the kyng of Moab, and took al the lond that was of his lordschip, `til to Arnon.
Porque Hesbón era la ciudad de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, el cual había hecho la guerra contra el anterior rey de Moab, y le había arrancado toda su tierra hasta el Arnón.
27 Therfor it is seid in prouerbe, Come ye in to Esebon, be it bildid, and maad the citee of Seon;
Por eso dicen los poetas: “Id a Hesbón; y sea reedificada y fortificada la ciudad de Sehón.
28 fier yede out of Esebon, flawme yede out of the citee `ethir greet castel of Seon, and deuouryde Ar of Moabitis, and the dwelleris of the `hiye places of Arnon.
Porque salió fuego de Hesbón, llama de la plaza fuerte de Sehón, que devoró a Ar de Moab, a los señores de las alturas del Arnón.
29 Moab, wo to thee! thou, puple of Chamos, perischidist; it yaf the sones therof in to fliyt, and the douytris in to caitifte to Seon, kyng of Ammoreis;
¡Ay de ti, Moab! perdido estás, pueblo de Camos. Entregó él sus hijos a la fuga, y sus hijas al cautiverio, en mano de Sehón, rey de los amorreos.
30 the yok of hem perischide, fro Esebon `til to Dibon; the wery men camen in to Jophe, and `til to Medaba.
Los hemos asaeteado: Hesbón está destruida hasta Dibón; hemos hecho devastación hasta Nofah, que está cerca de Medaba.”
31 And so Israel dwellide in the lond of Ammorrey.
Así vino a habitar Israel en la tierra de los amorreos.
32 And Moises sente men that schulden aspie Jaser, whos `townes thei token, and weldiden the dwelleris.
Entonces Moisés envió exploradores a Jaser; y tomaron sus aldeas, expulsando a los amorreos que allí habitaban.
33 And thei turniden hem silf, and stieden bi the weie of Basan. And Og, the kyng of Basan, with al his puple cam ayens hem, to fiyte in Edray.
Dando vuelta subieron por el camino de Basán. Mas Og, rey de Basán, salió a su encuentro con todo su pueblo para darles batalla en Edreí.
34 And the Lord seide to Moises, Drede thou not hym, for Y haue bitake hym, and al his loond, and puple, in thin hoond; and thou schalt do to hym as thou didist to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, the dwellere of Esebon.
Yahvé dijo entonces a Moisés: “No le temas, porque le he entregado en tus manos, a él y a todo su pueblo y su tierra. Harás con él como hiciste con Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón.”
35 Therfor thei smytiden `bothe hym with hise sones and al his puple, `til to deeth; and thei weldiden `the lond of hym.
Y le derrotaron, a él y a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo, sin dejarle un hombre con vida; y tomaron posesión de su tierra.
