Numbers 21
1 And whanne Chananei, the kyng of Arad, that dwellide at the south, hadde herd this, that is, that Israel cam bi the weye of aspieris, he fauyt ayens hem; and Chananei was ouercomere and ledde pray of Israel.
| پادشاه کنعانی سرزمین عراد (واقع در نگب کنعان) وقتی شنید اسرائیلی‌ها از راه اتاریم می‌آیند، سپاه خود را بسیج نموده، به قوم اسرائیل حمله کرد و عده‌ای از ایشان را به اسیری گرفت. |
2 And Israel bounde hym sylf bi avow to the Lord, and seide, If thou schalt bitake this puple in myn hond, Y schal do awei `the citees therof.
| پس قوم اسرائیل به خداوند نذر کردند که اگر خداوند ایشان را یاری دهد تا بر پادشاه عراد و مردمش پیروز شوند، تمامی شهرهای آن مرزوبوم را به کلی نابود کنند. |
3 And the Lord herde the preieris of Israel, and bitook the Chananey; and Israel killid hym, and distruyede hise citees; and clepide the name of that place Horma, that is, cursyng, `ethir hangyng up.
| خداوند دعای ایشان را شنیده کنعانی‌ها را شکست داد، و اسرائیلی‌ها آنان و شهرهای ایشان را به کلی نابود کردند. از آن پس، آن ناحیه «حرمه» (یعنی «نابودی») نامیده شد. |
4 `Forsothe thei yeden forth also fro the hil of Hor, bi the weie that ledith to the reed see, that thei schulden cumpasse the lond of Edom; and it bigan to anoye the puple, of the weie and trauel.
| سپس قوم اسرائیل از کوه هور رهسپار شدند تا از راهی که به دریای سرخ ختم می‌شد سرزمین ادوم را دور بزنند. اما قوم اسرائیل در این سفر طولانی به ستوه آمدند |
5 And the puple spak ayens the Lord and Moises, and seide, Whi leddist thou vs out of Egipt, that we schulden die in wildirnesse? breed failith, watris ben not; oure soule wlatith now on this `meete moost liyt.
| و به خدا و موسی اعتراض کرده گفتند: «چرا ما را از مصر بیرون آوردید تا در این بیابان بمیریم؟ در اینجا نه چیزی برای خوردن هست و نه چیزی برای نوشیدن! ما از خوردن این مَنّای بی‌مزه خسته شده‌ایم!» |
6 Wherfor the Lord sente `firid serpentis in to the puple; at the woundis of whiche serpentis, and the dethis of ful many men,
| پس خداوند مارهای سمی به میان ایشان فرستاد و مارها عدهٔ زیادی از ایشان را گزیده، هلاک کردند. |
7 thei camen to Moyses, and seiden, We synneden, for we spaken ayens the Lord and thee; preie thou, that he take awey fro vs the serpentis.
| آنگاه قوم اسرائیل پیش موسی آمده، فریاد برآوردند: «ما گناه کرده‌ایم، چون بر ضد خداوند و بر ضد تو سخن گفته‌ایم. از خداوند درخواست کن تا این مارها را از ما دور کند.» موسی برای قوم دعا کرد. |
8 And Moises preiede for the puple; and the Lord seide to hym, Make thou a serpent of bras, and sette thou it for a signe; he that is smytun and biholdith it, schal lyue.
| خداوند به وی فرمود: «یک مار مفرغین شبیه یکی از این مارها بساز و آن را بر سر یک تیر بیاویز. هر مارگزیده‌ای که به آن نگاه کند، زنده خواهد ماند!» |
9 Therfor Moyses made a serpent of bras, and settide for a signe; and men smytun and biholdynge it, weren heelid.
| پس موسی یک مار مفرغین درست کرد و آن را بر سر تیری آویخت. به محض اینکه مار گزیده‌ای به آن نگاه می‌کرد، شفا می‌یافت! |
10 And the sones of Israel yeden forth,
| قوم اسرائیل به اوبوت کوچ کردند و در آنجا اردو زدند. |
11 and settiden tentis in Oboth; fro whennus thei yeden forth, and settiden tentis in Neabarym, in the wildirnesse, that biholdith Moab, ayens the eest coost.
| سپس از آنجا به عیی‌عباریم که در بیابان و در فاصلهٔ کمی از شرق موآب قرار داشت، رفتند. |
12 And thei moueden fro thennus, and camen to the stronde of Zareth;
| از آنجا به وادی زارد کوچ کرده، اردو زدند. |
13 which thei leften, and settiden tentis ayens Arnon, which is in the deseert, and apperith in the coostis of Amorrei. Forsothe Arnon is the terme of Moab, and departith Moabitis and Ammoreis.
| بعد به طرف شمال رود ارنون نزدیک مرزهای اموری‌ها نقل مکان کردند. (رود ارنون، خط مرزی بین موآبی‌ها و اموری‌هاست. |
14 Wherfor it is seid in the book of batels of the Lord, As he dide in the reed see, so he schal do in the strondis of Arnon;
| در کتاب «جنگهای خداوند» به این امر اشاره شده که درهٔ رود ارنون و شهر واهیب |
15 the harde rochis of the strondis weren bowid, that tho schulen reste in Arnon, and schulden ligge in the coostis of Moabitis.
| بین اموری‌ها و موآبی‌ها قرار دارند.) |
16 Fro that place the pit apperide, of which the Lord spak to Moyses, Gadere thou the puple, and Y schal yyue watir to it.
| سپس قوم اسرائیل به «بئر» (یعنی «چاه») کوچ کردند. این همان جایی است که خداوند به موسی فرمود: «قوم را جمع کن و من به ایشان آب خواهم داد.» |
17 Thanne Israel soong this song, The pit stie;
| آنگاه قوم اسرائیل این سرود را خواندند: «ای چاه، بجوش آی! در وصف این چاه بسرایید! این است چاهی که رهبران آن را کندند، بله، بزرگان اسرائیل با عصاهایشان آن را کندند!» قوم اسرائیل از بیابان به مَتّانه کوچ کردند، |
18 thei sungen togidere, The pit which the princes diggiden, and the duykis of the multitude maden redi, in the yyuere of the lawe, and in her stauys. And thei yeden forth fro the wildirnesse to Mathana,
19 fro Mathana to Naaliel, fro Naaliel in to Bamoth;
| و از مَتّانه به نحلیئیل، و از نحلیئیل به باموت |
20 Bamoth is a valey in the cuntrey of Moab, in the cop of Phasga, that biholdith ayens the deseert.
| و از باموت به دره‌ای که در موآب قرار دارد و مشرف به بیابان و کوه پیسگاه است. |
21 Forsothe Israel sente messangeris to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, and seide,
| در این وقت قوم اسرائیل سفیرانی نزد سیحون، پادشاه اموری‌ها فرستادند. |
22 Y biseche that it be leueful to me to passe thorou thi loond; we schulen not bowe in to the feeldis and vyneris; we schulen not drynke watris of pittis; we schulen go in the kyngis weie, til we passen thi termes.
| فرستادگان درخواست کرده گفتند: «اجازه دهید از سرزمین شما عبور کنیم. ما قول می‌دهیم از شاهراه برویم و تا زمانی که از مرزتان نگذشته‌ایم از راهی که در آن می‌رویم خارج نشویم. به مزرعه‌ها و تاکستانهای شما وارد نخواهیم شد و آب شما را نیز نخواهیم نوشید.» |
23 Which nolde graunte that Israel schulde passe thury hise coostis, but rather, whanne the oost was gaderid, he yede out ayens Israel, in to deseert. And he cam in to Yasa, and fauyt ayens Israel;
| ولی سیحون پادشاه موافقت نکرد. در عوض، او سپاه خود را در بیابان در مقابل قوم اسرائیل بسیج کرد و در ناحیهٔ یاهص با ایشان وارد جنگ شد. |
24 of whom he was smytun in the scharpnesse of swerd, and his lond was weldid fro Arnon `til to Jeboth and `the sones of Amon; for the termes of Amonytis weren holdun bi strong help.
| در این جنگ، بنی‌اسرائیل آنها را از دم شمشیر گذراندند و سرزمینشان را از رود ارنون تا رود یبوق و تا مرز سرزمین بنی‌عمون تصرف کردند، اما نتوانستند جلوتر بروند، زیرا مرز بنی‌عمون مستحکم بود. |
25 Therfor Israel took alle `the citees of hym, and dwelliden in the citees of Amorrei, that is, in Esebon, and hise townes.
| به این ترتیب، قوم اسرائیل تمام شهرهای اموری‌ها منجمله شهر حِشبون و تمام روستاهای اطرافش را تصرف کردند و در آنها ساکن شدند. |
26 The citee of Esebon was Seons, kyng of Ammorei, which Seon fauyt ayens the kyng of Moab, and took al the lond that was of his lordschip, `til to Arnon.
| حِشبون پایتخت سیحون پادشاه اموری‌ها بود. او پیش از آن، پادشاه قبلی موآب را شکست داده، تمام سرزمینش را تا به اَرنون به تصرف درآورده بود. |
27 Therfor it is seid in prouerbe, Come ye in to Esebon, be it bildid, and maad the citee of Seon;
| از همین رو شعرا در مورد سیحون پادشاه چنین گفته‌اند: «به حشبون بیایید، بگذارید بنا شود، بگذارید شهر سیحون پادشاه بازسازی شود. |
28 fier yede out of Esebon, flawme yede out of the citee `ethir greet castel of Seon, and deuouryde Ar of Moabitis, and the dwelleris of the `hiye places of Arnon.
| زیرا آتشی از حِشبون افروخته شده، و شعله‌ای از شهر سیحون. شهر عارِ موآب را سوزانده، و حاکمان بلندیهای ارنون را هلاک کرده. |
29 Moab, wo to thee! thou, puple of Chamos, perischidist; it yaf the sones therof in to fliyt, and the douytris in to caitifte to Seon, kyng of Ammoreis;
| وای بر تو ای موآب! تو هلاک شدی، ای قومی که کموش را می‌پرستید! کموش پسران خود را همچون فراریان تسلیم کرد، و دخترانش را به اسارت سیحون، پادشاه اموری‌ها فرستاد. |
30 the yok of hem perischide, fro Esebon `til to Dibon; the wery men camen in to Jophe, and `til to Medaba.
| اما ما آنها را هلاک کرده‌ایم از حشبون تا دیبون، و تا نوفح که نزدیک میدبا است.» |
31 And so Israel dwellide in the lond of Ammorrey.
| بدین ترتیب قوم اسرائیل در سرزمین اموری‌ها ساکن شدند. |
32 And Moises sente men that schulden aspie Jaser, whos `townes thei token, and weldiden the dwelleris.
| موسی افرادی به ناحیهٔ یعزیز فرستاد تا وضع آنجا را بررسی کنند. پس از آن، قوم اسرائیل به آن ناحیه حمله بردند و آن را با روستاهای اطرافش گرفتند و اموری‌ها را بیرون راندند. |
33 And thei turniden hem silf, and stieden bi the weie of Basan. And Og, the kyng of Basan, with al his puple cam ayens hem, to fiyte in Edray.
| سپس بنی‌اسرائیل بازگشتند و راهی را که به باشان منتهی می‌شد در پیش گرفتند؛ اما عوج، پادشاه باشان، برای جنگ با آنها، با سپاه خود به ادرعی آمد. |
34 And the Lord seide to Moises, Drede thou not hym, for Y haue bitake hym, and al his loond, and puple, in thin hoond; and thou schalt do to hym as thou didist to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, the dwellere of Esebon.
| خداوند به موسی فرمود: «از او نترس، زیرا او را با همۀ قوم و سرزمینش به دست تو تسلیم کرده‌ام. همان بلایی به سر عوج پادشاه می‌آید که در حشبون به سر سیحون، پادشاه اموری‌ها آمد.» |
35 Therfor thei smytiden `bothe hym with hise sones and al his puple, `til to deeth; and thei weldiden `the lond of hym.
| پس قوم اسرائیل، عوجِ پادشاه را همراه با پسرانش و اهالی سرزمینش کشتند، به طوری که یکی از آنها هم زنده نماند. سپس قوم اسرائیل آن سرزمین را تصرف کردند. |
