Numbers 20
1 And the sones of Israel and al the multitude camen in to the deseert of Syn, in the firste monethe. And the puple dwellide in Cades; and Marie was deed there, and biried in the same place.
Als de kinderen Israels, de ganse vergadering, in de woestijn Zin gekomen waren, in de eerste maand, zo bleef het volk te Kades. En Mirjam stierf aldaar, en zij werd aldaar begraven.
2 And whanne the puple hadde nede to watir, thei yeden togidere ayens Moises and Aaron; and thei weren turned in to dissensioun,
En er was geen water voor de vergadering; toen vergaderden zij zich tegen Mozes en tegen Aaron.
3 and seiden, We wolden that we hadden perischid among oure britheren bifor the Lord.
En het volk twistte met Mozes, en zij spraken, zeggende: Och, of wij den geest gegeven hadden, toen onze broeders voor het aangezicht des HEEREN den geest gaven!
4 Whi han ye led out the chirche of the Lord in to wildirnesse, that bothe we and oure beestis die?
Waarom toch hebt gijlieden de gemeente des HEEREN in deze woestijn gebracht, dat wij daar sterven zouden, wij en onze beesten?
5 Whi han ye maad vs to stie from Egipt, and han brouyt vs in to this werste place, which may not be sowun, which nether bryngith forth fige tre, nether vineris, nether pumgranatis, ferthermore and hath not watir to drynke?
En waarom hebt gijlieden ons doen optrekken uit Egypte, om ons te brengen in deze kwade plaats? Het is geen plaats van zaad, noch van vijgen, noch van wijnstokken, noch van granaatappelen; ook is er geen water om te drinken.
6 And whanne the multitude was left, Moises and Aaron entriden in to the tabernacle of boond of pees, and felden lowe to erthe, and crieden to God, and seiden, Lord God, here the cry of this puple, and opene to hem thi tresour, a welle of quyk watir, that whanne thei ben fillid, the grutchyng of hem ceesse. And the glorie of the Lord apperide on hem;
Toen gingen Mozes en Aaron van het aangezicht der gemeente tot de deur van de tent der samenkomst, en zij vielen op hun aangezichten; en de heerlijkheid des HEEREN verscheen hun.
7 and the Lord spak to Moises,
En de HEERE sprak tot Mozes, zeggende:
8 and seide, Take the yerde, and gadere the puple, thou, and Aaron thi brother; and speke ye to the stoon bifore hem, and it schal yyue watris. And whanne thou hast led watir out of the stoon, al the multitude schal drynke, and the beestis therof `schulden drynke.
Neem dien staf, en verzamel de vergadering, gij en Aaron, uw broeder, en spreekt gijlieden tot de steenrots voor hun ogen, zo zal zij hun water geven; alzo zult gij hun water voortbrengen uit de steenrots, en gij zult de vergadering en haar beesten drenken.
9 Therfor Moises took the yerde that was in the `siyt of the Lord, as the Lord comaundide to hym,
Toen nam Mozes den staf van voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, gelijk als Hij hem geboden had.
10 whanne the multitude was gaderid bifor the stoon; and he seide to hem, Here ye, rebel and vnbileueful; whether we moun brynge out of this stoon watir to you?
En Mozes en Aaron vergaderden de gemeente voor de steenrots, en hij zeide tot hen: Hoort toch, gij wederspannigen, zullen wij water voor ulieden uit deze steenrots hervoorbrengen?
11 And whanne Moises hadde reisid the hond, and hadde smyte the flynt twies with the yerde, largeste watris yeden out, so that the puple drank, and the beestis drunken.
Toen hief Mozes zijn hand op, en hij sloeg de steenrots tweemaal met zijn staf; en er kwam veel waters uit, zodat de vergadering dronk, en haar beesten.
12 And the Lord seide to Moises and to Aaron, For ye bileueden not to me, that ye schulden halewe me bifor the sones of Israel, ye schulen not lede these puples in to the lond which Y schal yyue to hem.
Derhalve zeide de HEERE tot Mozes en tot Aaron: Omdat gijlieden Mij niet geloofd hebt, dat gij Mij heiligdet voor de ogen der kinderen van Israel, daarom zult gijlieden deze gemeente niet inbrengen in het land, hetwelk Ik hun gegeven heb.
13 This is the watir of ayenseiyng; there the sones of Israel stryueden ayens the Lord, and he was halewid in hem.
Dit zijn de wateren van Meriba, daar de kinderen Israels met den HEERE om getwist hebben; en Hij werd aan hen geheiligd.
14 In the meene tyme Moises sente messangeres fro Cades to the kyng of Edom, whiche seiden, Israel thi brother sendith these thinges. Thou knowist al the trauel that took vs,
Daarna zond Mozes boden uit Kades tot den koning van Edom, welke zeiden: Alzo zegt uw broeder Israel: Gij weet al de moeite, die ons ontmoet is;
15 hou oure fadris yeden doun in to Egipt, and we dwelliden there myche tyme, and Egipcians turmentiden vs and oure fadris; and hou we crieden to the Lord,
Dat onze vaders naar Egypte afgetogen zijn, en wij in Egypte vele dagen gewoond hebben; en dat de Egyptenaars aan ons en onze vaderen kwaad gedaan hebben.
16 and he herde vs, and sente an aungel that ledde vs out of Egipt. And lo! we ben set in the citee of Cades, which is in thi laste coostis,
Toen riepen wij tot den HEERE, en Hij hoorde onze stem, en Hij zond een Engel, en Hij leidde ons uit Egypte; en ziet, wij zijn te Kades, en stad aan het uiterste uwer landpale.
17 and we bisechen that it be leueful to vs to passe thorou thi lond; we schulen not go bi feeldis, nether bi vyneris, nether we schulen drynke watris of thi pittis; but we schulen go in the comyn weie, and we schulen not bowe to the riyt side, nether to the left side, til we passen thi termes.
Laat ons toch door uw land trekken; wij zullen niet trekken door den akker, noch door de wijngaarden, noch zullen het water der putten drinken; wij zullen den koninklijken weg gaan, wij zullen niet afwijken ter rechter- noch ter linkerhand, totdat wij door uw landpalen zullen getrokken zijn.
18 To whom Edom answeride, Ye schulen not passe bi me, ellis Y schal be armed, and come ayens thee.
Doch Edom zeide tot hem: Gij zult door mij niet trekken, opdat ik niet misschien met het zwaard uitga u tegemoet!
19 And the sones of Israel seiden, We schulen go bi the weie comynli vsid, and if we and oure beestis drynken thi watris, we schulen yyue that that is iust; noon hardnesse schal be in prijs, onely passe we swiftli.
Toen zeiden de kinderen Israels tot hem: Wij zullen door den gebaanden weg optrekken, en indien wij van uw water drinken, ik en mijn vee, zo zal ik deszelfs prijs daarvoor geven; ik zal alleenlijk, zonder iets anders, te voet doortrekken.
20 And he answeride, Ye schulen not passe. And anoon he yede out ayens Israel, with a multitude without noumbre, and `strong hond,
Doch hij zeide: Gij zult niet doortrekken! En Edom is hem tegemoet uitgetrokken, met een zwaar volk, en met een sterke hand.
21 nether he wolde assente to Israel bisechynge, that he schulde graunte passage bi hise coostis. Wherfor Israel turnede awey fro hym.
Alzo weigerde Edom Israel toe te laten door zijn landpale te trekken; daarom week Israel van hem af.
22 And whanne thei hadden moued tentis fro Cades, thei camen in to the hil of Hor, which is in the endis of the lond of Edom;
Toen reisden zij van Kades; en de kinderen Israels kwamen, de ganse vergadering, aan den berg Hor.
23 where the Lord spak to Moyses and seide, Aaron go to his puples;
De HEERE nu sprak tot Mozes, en tot Aaron, aan den berg Hor, aan de pale van het land van Edom, zeggende:
24 for he schal not entre in to the lond which Y yaf to the sones of Israel, for he was vnbileueful to my mouth, at the watris of ayenseiyng.
Aaron zal tot zijn volken verzameld worden; want hij zal niet komen in het land, hetwelk Ik aan de kinderen Israels gegeven heb, omdat gijlieden Mijn mond wederspannig geweest zijt bij de wateren van Meriba.
25 Take thou Aaron, and his sone with hym, and thou schalt lede hem in to the hil of Hor;
Neem Aaron, en Eleazar, zijn zoon, en doe hen opklimmen tot den berg Hor.
26 and whanne thou hast maad nakid the fadir of his cloth, thou schalt clothe `with it Eleazar, his sone, and Aaron schal be gederid, and schal die there.
En trek Aaron zijn klederen uit, en trek ze Eleazar, zijn zoon, aan; want Aaron zal verzameld worden, en daar sterven.
27 Moises dide as the Lord comaundide; and thei stieden in to the hil of Hor, bifor al the multitude.
Mozes nu deed, gelijk als de HEERE geboden had; want zij klommen op tot den berg Hor, voor de ogen der ganse vergadering.
28 And whanne he hadde maad nakid Aaron of hise clothis, he clothide with tho Eleazar, his sone. Sotheli whanne Aaron was deed in the `cop of the hil, Moises cam doun with Eleazar.
En Mozes trok Aaron zijn klederen uit, en hij trok ze zijn zoon Eleazar aan; en Aaron stierf aldaar, op de hoogte diens bergs. Toen kwam Mozes en Eleazar van dien berg af.
29 Sotheli al the multitude siy that Aaron was deed, and wepte on hym thretti daies, bi alle her meyness.
Toen de ganse vergadering zag, dat Aaron overleden was, zo beweenden zij Aaron dertig dagen, het ganse huis van Israel.
