1 And the Lord spak to Moises in the deseert of Synay, in the tabernacle of the boond of pees, in the firste day of the secounde monethe, in the tother yeer of her goyng out of Egipt,
Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse dans le tabernacle du témoignage, au désert de Sina, le premier du second mois de la seconde année, après la sortie d'Egypte, disant:
2 and seide, Take ye `the summe of al the congregacioun of the sones of Israel, bi her kynredis, and howsis, and `the names of alle bi hem silf, what
Prenez le nombre de toute la synagogue d'Israël, et comptez-les par familles, par maisons paternelles, par têtes et par leurs noms.
3 euer thing is of male kynde fro the twentithe yeere and aboue, of alle the stronge men of Israel; and thou and Aaron schulen noumbre hem bi her cumpanies.
Tout mâle de vingt ans et au-dessus, tout Israélite pouvant marcher au combat, comptez-le dans l'armée. Tu feras ce dénombrement avec Aaron.
4 And the princes of lynagis and of housis, in her kynredis, schulen be with you,
Faites-vous seconder par les princes des diverses tribus et familles paternelles.
5 of whiche princes these ben the names; of Ruben, Elisur, the sone of Sedeur;
Voici les noms des hommes qui vous assisteront; parmi ceux de Ruben, Elisur, fils de Sédiur;
6 of Symeon, Salamyel, the sone of Suri Sadday;
Parmi ceux de Siméon: Salamiel, fils de Surisadaï;
7 of Juda, Naason, the sone of Amynadab; of Ysacar,
Parmi ceux de Juda: Nahasson, fils d'Aminadab;
8 Nathanael, the sone of Suar;
Parmi ceux d'Issachar: Nathanaël, fils de Sogar;
9 of Zabulon, Eliab, the sone of Elon; sotheli of the sones of Joseph,
Parmi ceux de Zabulon: Eliab, fils de Chaïlon;
10 of Effraym, Elisama, the sone of Amyud; of Manasses, Gamaliel the sone of Phadussur;
Parmi ceux de Joseph et d'Ephraïm: Elisama, fils d'Emiud; et parmi ceux de Manassé: Gamaliel, fils de Phadasur;
11 of Beniamyn, Abidan, the sone of Gedeon;
Parmi ceux de Benjamin: Abidan, fils de Gadéoni;
12 of Dan, Aiezer, the sone of Amysadday;
Parmi ceux de Dan: Achièzer, fils d'Amisadaï;
13 of Aser, Fegiel, the sone of Ochran;
Parmi ceux d'Aser: Phagéel, fils d'Echran;
14 of Gad, Elisaphan, the sone of Duel;
Parmi ceux de Gad: Eliasaph, fils de Raguel;
15 of Neptalym, Hayra, the sone of Henam.
Et parmi ceux de Nephthali: Achire, fils d'Enan.
16 These weren the noblest princes of the multitude, bi her lynagis, and kynredis, and the heedis of the oost of Israel,
Ce sont les plus illustres du peuple, les princes de leurs tribus selon leur origine paternelle, commandants de mille hommes en Israël.
17 whiche pryncis Moises and Aaron token, with al the multitude of the comyn puple.
Moïse et Aaron prirent donc les hommes nominativement désignés.
18 And thei gaderiden in the firste dai of the secounde monethe, and telden hem bi kynredis, and housis, and meynees, and heedis, and names of alle by hem silf, fro the twentithe yeer and aboue,
Puis, ils rassemblèrent tout le peuple, le premier jour du second mois de la seconde année, et ils firent le dénombrement; ils prirent les noms de tous les mâles de vingt ans et au-dessus, selon leur naissance, par familles et par têtes,
19 as the Lord comaundide to Moises.
Comme le Seigneur l'avait prescrit à Moïse; ils firent ce recensement dans le désert de Sina.

44 These men it ben, whiche Moises and Aaron and the twelue princes of Israel noumbriden, alle bi the housis `of her kynredis.
Tel fut le dénombrement que fit Moïse avec Aaron, et les chefs d'Israël au nombre de douze, un homme par tribu, pris dans la tribu de sa maison paternelle.
45 And alle men of the sones of Israel bi her housis, and meynees, fro `the twentithe yeer and aboue, that myyten go forth to batels, weren togidere
Et Le recensement total des fils d'Israël, de vingt ans et au-dessus, en état de porter les armes, donna
46 sixe hundrid thousynde and thre thousynde of men, fyue hundred and fifti.
Six cent trois mille cinq cent cinquante hommes.
47 Sotheli the dekenes in the lynage of her meynes weren not noumbrid with hem.
Mais les lévites de la tribu paternelle de Lévi ne furent point recensés parmi les fils d'Israël.
48 And the Lord spak to Moises, and seide, `Nyle thou noumbre the lynage of Leuy,
Car le Seigneur avait parlé à Moïse, disant:
49 nether sette thou the summe of hem with the sones of Israel;
Tu ne recenseras pas la tribu de Lévi, et tu n'en prendras pas le nombre parmi les fils d'Israël.
50 but thou schalt ordeyne hem on the tabernacle of witnessing, and on alle the vessels therof, and what euer thing perteyneth to cerymonyes ether sacrifices. Thei schulen bere the tabernacle, and alle purtenaunces therof, and thei schulen be in seruyce, and schulen sette tentis bi the cumpas of the tabernacle.
Tu donneras aux lévites le soin du tabernacle du témoignage, de ses ornements et de tout ce qu'il renferme; et ils transporteront le tabernacle avec tous ses ornements; ils exerceront le sacerdoce dans le tabernacle, et ils camperont autour du tabernacle.
51 Whanne me schal go, the dekenes schulen do doun the tabernacle; whanne the tentis schulen be sette, thei schulen `reise the tabernacle. Who euer of straungeris neiyeth, he schal be slayn.
Lorsqu'il faudra enlever le tabernacle, les Lévites l'enlèveront, et lorsqu'il faudra dresser le tabernacle, ils, le dresseront; que l'homme d'une autre tribu qui s'en approcherait soit mis à mort.
52 Sotheli the sones of Israel schulen sette tentis, ech man bi cumpenyes, and gaderyngis, and his oost;
Lorsque les fils d'Israël camperont en corps d'armée, chacun au rang à lui assigné, selon la branche a laquelle il appartient,
53 forsothe the dekenes schulen sette tentis bi the cumpas of the tabernacle, lest indignacioun be maad on the multitude of the sones of Israel; and thei schulen wake in the kepyngis of the `tabernacle of witnessyng.
Que les lévites campent en cercle, près du tabernacle du témoignage, et il n'y aura point de péché parmi les fils d'Israël. Les lévites seuls auront la garde du tabernacle du témoignage.
54 Therfor the sones of Israel diden bi alle thingis whiche the Lord comaundide to Moises.
Et tout ce que le Seigneur avait prescrit à Moïse et à Aaron, les fils d'Israël le firent.
