Matthew 26
1 And it was doon, whanne Jhesus hadde endid alle these wordis, he seide to hise disciplis,
Þegar Jesús hafði lokið ræðu sinni, sagði hann við lærisveinana:
2 Ye witen, that aftir twei daies pask schal be maad, and mannus sone schal be bitakun to be crucified.
„Þið vitið að eftir tvo daga koma páskarnir og þá verð ég svikinn og krossfestur.“
3 Than the princes of prestis and the elder men of the puple were gaderid in to the halle of the prince of prestis, that was seid Cayfas,
Um svipað leyti héldu prestarnir fund, ásamt öðrum embættismönnum Gyðinga, í höll Kaífasar æðsta prests.
4 and maden a counsel to holde Jhesu with gile, and sle him;
Þeir voru að bollaleggja hvernig þeir gætu handtekið Jesú svo lítið bæri á og líflátið hann.
5 but thei seiden, Not in the haliday, lest perauenture noyse were maad in the puple.
„En ekki á sjálfum páskunum, því þá er svo margt aðkomufólk í borginni og hætt við óeirðum, “samþykktu þeir.
6 And whanne Jhesus was in Betanye, in the hous of Symount leprous,
Jesús fór til Betaníu, heim til Símonar holdsveika.
7 a womman that hadde a box of alabastre of precious oynement, cam to hym, and schedde out on the heed of hym restynge.
Meðan hann mataðist, kom þangað inn kona sem hélt á flösku með mjög dýrri ilmolíu, og hellti henni yfir höfuð hans.
8 And disciplis seynge hadden dedeyn, and seiden, Wherto this loss? for it myyte be seld for myche,
Lærisveinarnir urðu gramir og sögðu sín á milli: „Til hvers er þessi sóun? Þetta hefði mátt selja fyrir stórfé og gefa peningana fátækum.“
9 and be youun to pore men.
10 But Jhesus knewe, and seide to hem, What ben ye heuy to this womman? for sche hath wrouyt in me a good werk.
Jesús las hugsanir þeirra og sagði: „Hví eruð þið að hryggja konuna? Hún gerði góðverk á mér.
11 For ye schulen euere haue pore men with you, but ye schulen not algatis haue me.
Þið hafið ávallt fátæka hjá ykkur, en ekki mig.
12 This womman sendynge this oynement in to my bodi, dide to birie me.
Hún hellti ilmvatni þessu yfir mig til þess að búa líkama minn til greftrunar.
13 Treuli Y seie to you, where euer this gospel schal be prechid in al the world, it schal be seid, that sche dide this, in mynde of hym.
Hennar mun verða minnst og þess getið sem hún gerði, hvar sem fagnaðarboðskapurinn verður fluttur.“
14 Thanne oon of the twelue, that was clepid Judas Scarioth, wente forth to the princis of prestis,
Þá fór einn postulanna tólf, Júdas Ískaríot, til æðstu prestanna
15 and seide to hem, What wolen ye yyue to me, and Y schal bitake hym to you? And thei ordeyneden to hym thretti pans of siluer.
og spurði: „Hve mikið viljið þið borga mér fyrir að koma Jesú í hendur ykkar?“Þeir greiddu honum þrjátíu silfurpeninga.
16 And fro that tyme he souyte oportunyte, to bitraye hym.
Upp frá því beið Júdas eftir hentugu tækifæri til að svíkja Jesú í hendur þeirra.
17 And in the firste dai of therf looues the disciplis camen to Jhesu, and seiden, Where wolt thou we make redi to thee, to ete paske?
Á fyrsta degi páskahátíðarinnar (Gyðingar fjarlægðu þegar allt súrdeig – gerbrauð – af heimilum sínum) komu lærisveinarnir til Jesú og spurðu hann: „Hvar eigum við að undirbúa páskamáltíðina?“
18 Jhesus seide, Go ye into the citee to `sum man, and seie to hym, The maistir seith, My tyme is nyy; at thee Y make paske with my disciplis.
„Farið inn í borgina, “svaraði Jesús, „finnið mann nokkurn og segið við hann: „Meistari okkar segir: Minn tími er kominn. Hjá þér vil ég halda páska með lærisveinum mínum.““
19 And the disciplis diden, as Jhesus comaundide to hem; and thei maden the paske redi.
Lærisveinarnir gerðu eins og Jesús sagði og undirbjuggu páskamáltíðina.
20 And whanne euentid was come, he sat to mete with hise twelue disciplis.
Þetta kvöld, þegar hann var sestur til borðs ásamt lærisveinunum tólf, sagði hann: „Ég veit að einn ykkar mun svíkja mig.“
21 And he seide to hem, as thei eten, Treuli Y seie to you, that oon of you schal bitraye me.
22 And thei ful sori bigunnen ech bi hym silf to seie, Lord, whether `Y am?
Hryggð og ótti greip lærisveinana og þeir spurðu hver um sig: „Ekki þó ég?“Jesús svaraði:
23 And he answeride, and seide, He that puttith with me his hoond in the plater, schal bitraye me.
„Það er sá sem ég þjónaði fyrst í kvöld.“
24 Forsothe mannus sone goith, as it is writun of hym; but wo to that man, bi whom mannus sone schal be bitrayed; it were good to hym, if that man hadde not be borun.
„Ég verð að deyja eins og spáð var, en vei þeim manni sem því veldur. Betra væri honum að hann hefði aldrei fæðst.“
25 But Judas that bitraiede hym, answeride, seiynge, Maister, whether `Y am? Jhesus seide to hym, Thou hast seid.
Júdas sem varð til þess að svíkja hann, spurði líka: „Er það ég?“Og Jesús svaraði: „Já.“
26 And while thei soupeden, Jhesus took breed, and blesside, and brak, and yaf to hise disciplis, and seide, Take ye, and ete; this is my body.
Meðan á máltíðinni stóð tók Jesús brauð, blessaði það og braut í sundur, rétti lærisveinunum og sagði: „Takið þetta og neytið, það er líkami minn.“
27 And he took the cuppe, and dide thankyngis, and yaf to hem,
Og hann tók bikar með víni, gjörði þakkir, rétti þeim og sagði: „Drekkið allir hér af,
28 and seide, Drynke ye alle herof; this is my blood of the newe testament, which schal be sched for many, in to remissioun of synnes.
því þetta er blóð mitt, innsigli nýja sáttmálans. Því er úthellt til syndafyrirgefningar fyrir marga.
29 And Y seie to you, Y schal not drynke fro this tyme, of this fruyt of the vyne, in to that dai whanne Y schal drynke it newe with you, in the kyngdom of my fadir.
Takið eftir þessum orðum mínum: Ég mun ekki drekka vín á ný fyrr en ég drekk það nýtt með ykkur í ríki föður míns.“
30 And whanne the ympne was seid, thei wenten out in to the mount of Olyuete.
Þegar þeir höfðu sungið lofsöng fóru þeir út til Olíufjallsins.
31 Thanne Jhesus seide to hem, Alle ye schulen suffre sclaundre in me, in this niyt; for it is writun, Y schal smyte the scheeperde, and the scheep of the flok schulen be scaterid.
Jesús sagði við þá: „Í nótt munuð þið allir yfirgefa mig. Í Ritningunni stendur að Guð muni slá hirðinn og hjörðin tvístrast.
32 But aftir that Y schal rise ayen, Y schal go bifore you in to Galilee.
En eftir að ég er risinn upp frá dauðum fer ég til Galíleu og hitti ykkur þar.“
33 Petre answeride, and seide to hym, Thouy alle schulen be sclaundrid in thee, Y schal neuer be sclaundrid.
„Þótt allir aðrir yfirgefi þig, mun ég ekki gera það, “sagði Pétur.
34 Jhesus seide to him, Treuli Y seie to thee, for in this nyyt bifor the cok crowe, thries thou schalt denye me.
Jesús svaraði: „Sannleikurinn er þó sá, að einmitt í nótt, áður en hani galar við sólarupprás, munt þú afneita mér þrisvar.“
35 Peter seide to him, Yhe, thouy it bihoue that Y die with thee, Y schal not denye thee. Also alle the disciplis seiden.
„Fyrr mun ég deyja!“svaraði Pétur og allir hinir tóku í sama streng.
36 Thanne Jhesus cam with hem in to a toun, that is seid Jessamanye. And he seide to his disciplis, Sitte ye here, the while Y go thider, and preye.
Jesús fór síðan með lærisveinana inn í garð sem heitir Getsemane, og bað þá að setjast niður meðan hann færi spölkorn lengra til að biðjast fyrir.
37 And whanne he hadde take Peter, and twei sones of Zebedee, he bigan to be heuy and sori.
Hann fékk með sér þá Pétur og bræðurna Jakob og Jóhannes Sebedeussyni. Mikill ótti og örvænting kom yfir Jesú og hann sagði:
38 Thanne he seide to hem, My soule is soreuful to the deeth; abide ye here, and wake ye with me.
„Sál mín er buguð af ótta og angist allt til dauða. Bíðið hér og vakið með mér.“
39 And he yede forth a litil, and felde doun on his face, preiynge, and seiynge, My fader, if it is possible, passe this cuppe fro me; netheles not as Y wole, but as thou wolt.
Hann gekk lítið eitt lengra, hneig til jarðar og bað: „Faðir minn! Taktu þennan bikar frá mér ef mögulegt er, en verði þó þinn vilji en ekki minn.“
40 And he cam to his disciplis, and foond hem slepynge. And he seide to Petir, So, whethir ye myyten not oon our wake with me?
Síðan kom hann aftur til lærisveinanna þriggja og fann þá sofandi. „Pétur!“kallaði hann, „gastu ekki einu sinni vakað með mér eina stund?
41 Wake ye, and preye ye, that ye entre not in to temptacioun; for the spirit is redi, but the fleisch is sijk.
Vakið og biðjið, til þess að þið fallið ekki í freistni. Andinn er fús, en holdið er veikt!“
42 Eft the secounde tyme he wente, and preyede, seiynge, My fadir, if this cuppe may not passe, but Y drynke hym, thi wille be doon.
Hann fór frá þeim aftur og bað: „Faðir! Ef ekki er unnt að taka þennan bikar frá mér án þess að ég tæmi hann, þá verði þinn vilji.“
43 And eftsoone he cam, and foond hem slepynge; for her iyen weren heuyed.
Síðan sneri hann aftur til þeirra og fann þá enn sofandi, því þeir gátu ekki haldið augunum opnum.
44 And he lefte hem, and wente eftsoone, and preiede the thridde tyme, and seide the same word.
Hann yfirgaf þá enn og baðst fyrir í þriðja sinn með sömu orðum.
45 Thanne he cam to his disciplis, and seide to hem, Slepe ye now, and reste ye; loo! the our hath neiyed, and mannus sone schal be takun in to the hondis of synneris;
Eftir það fór hann aftur til lærisveinanna og sagði: „Sofið þið enn og hvílist? Stundin er komin! Ég hef verið svikinn í hendur vondra manna.
46 rise ye, go we; loo! he that schal take me, is nyy.
Standið upp, förum! Sjáið! Þarna kemur sá sem svíkur mig.“
47 Yit the while he spak, lo! Judas, oon of the twelue, cam, and with hym a greet cumpeny, with swerdis and battis, sent fro the princis of prestis, and fro the eldre men of the puple.
Meðan hann var enn að tala kom Júdas, einn postulana tólf, og með honum fjöldi manna, sem vopnaðir voru sverðum og bareflum. Þessa menn höfðu leiðtogar Gyðinga sent.
48 And he that bitraiede hym, yaf to hem a tokene, and seide, Whom euer Y schal kisse, he it is; holde ye hym.
Júdas hafði sagt þeim að handtaka þann sem hann heilsaði með kossi, því að hann væri maðurinn sem þeir vildu ná.
49 And anoon he cam to Jhesu, and seid, Haile, maister;
Júdas gekk því beint til Jesú og sagði: „Sæll, meistari!“
50 and he kisside hym. And Jhesus seide to hym, Freend, wherto art thou comun? Thanne thei camen niy, and leiden hoondis on Jhesu, and helden hym.
„Vinur minn, “sagði Jesús, „hvers vegna komstu hingað?“Þá gripu sendimennirnir Jesú.
51 And lo! oon of hem that weren with Jhesu, streiyte out his hoond, and drouy out his swerd; and he smoot the seruaunt of the prince of prestis, and kitte of his ere.
Einn lærisveina Jesú dró þá sverð úr slíðrum og hjó annað eyrað af þjóni æðsta prestsins.
52 Thanne Jhesus seide to hym, Turne thi swerd in to his place; for alle that taken swerd, schulen perische bi swerd.
„Slíðraðu sverðið!“sagði Jesús. „Þeir sem beita sverði munu falla fyrir sverði.
53 Whether gessist thou, that Y may not preie my fadir, and he schal yyue to me now mo than twelue legiouns of aungels?
Veistu ekki að ég gæti beðið föður minn um þúsundir engla okkur til varnar og hann mundi þegar í stað senda þá?
54 Hou thanne schulen the scriptures be fulfilled? for so it bihoueth to be doon.
En hvernig ættu orð Biblíunnar þá að rætast?“
55 In that our Jhesus seide to the puple, As to a theef ye han gon out, with swerdis and battis, to take me; dai bi dai Y sat among you, and tauyt in the temple, and ye helden me not.
Síðan ávarpaði Jesús mennina og sagði: „Er ég hættulegur afbrotamaður, fyrst þið þurftuð að koma vopnaðir sverðum og bareflum til að handtaka mig? Ég hef gengið um á meðal ykkar og kennt daglega í musterinu en þið handtókuð mig ekki.
56 But al this thing was don, that the scripturis of profetis schulden be fulfillid. Thanne alle the disciplis fledden, and leften hym.
En þetta, sem nú er að gerast er uppfylling spádóma Biblíunnar.“Þá yfirgáfu allir lærisveinarnir hann og flúðu.
57 And thei helden Jhesu, and ledden hym to Cayfas, the prince of prestis, where the scribis and the Farisees, and the eldre men of the puple weren comun togidere.
Þeir sem handtóku Jesú fóru nú með hann til bústaðar Kaífasar, æðsta prestsins, því þar voru allir leiðtogar Gyðinga saman komnir.
58 But Petir swede him afer, in to the halle of the prince of prestis; and he wente in, and sat with the seruauntis, to se the ende.
Pétur læddist í humátt á eftir og smeygði sér inn í hallargarð æðsta prestsins og settist niður hjá þjónunum. Þar beið hann þess að sjá hvað yrði um Jesú.
59 And the prince of prestis, and al the counsel souyten fals witnessing ayens Jhesu, that thei schulden take hym to deeth;
Æðstu prestarnir – og reyndar allur hæstiréttur Gyðinga – leituðu nú manna er borið gætu lognar sakir á Jesú. Ætlun þeirra var að höfða mál gegn honum og fá hann dæmdan til dauða.
60 and thei founden not, whanne manye false witnessis weren comun. But at the laste, twei false witnessis camen,
En þótt þeir fyndu marga sem vildu bera falsvitni, þá bar vitnisburði þeirra ekki saman. Að lokum fundust þó tveir sem sögðu: „Þessi maður sagði: „Ég er fær um að brjóta niður musteri Guðs og reisa það aftur á þrem dögum.““
61 and seiden, `This seide, Y may distruye the temple of God, and after the thridde dai bilde it ayen.
62 And the prince of prestis roos, and seide to hym, Answerist thou no thing to tho thingis, that these witnessen ayens thee?
Þá stóð æðsti presturinn upp og sagði við Jesú: „Sagðir þú þetta? Svaraðu! Já, eða nei!“
63 But Jhesus was stille. And the prince of prestis seide to hym, Y coniure thee bi lyuynge God, that thou seie to vs, if thou art Crist, the sone of God.
Jesús þagði. Þá hélt æðsti presturinn áfram og sagði: „Ég krefst þess í nafni hins lifandi Guðs, að þú svarir eftirfarandi spurningu: Heldur þú því fram að þú sért Kristur, Guðssonurinn?“
64 Jhesus seide to him, Thou hast seid; netheles Y seie to you, `fro hennus forth ye schulen se mannus sone sittinge at the riythalf of the vertu of God, and comynge in the cloudis of heuene.
„Já, ég er hann og þú munt síðar sjá mig, Krist, sitja við hægri hönd Guðs og koma á skýjum himinsins, “svaraði Jesús.
65 Thanne the prince of prestis to-rente his clothis, and seide, He hath blasfemed; what yit han we nede to witnessis? lo! now ye han herd blasfemye; what semeth to you?
Þá reif æðsti presturinn klæði sín og hrópaði: „Guðlast! Nú þurfum við ekki frekar vitnanna við. Þið heyrðuð hann allir segja það! Hver er nú dómur ykkar?“Þeir hrópuðu: „Hann skal deyja!“
66 And thei answeriden, and seiden, He is gilti of deeth.
67 Thanne thei speten `in to his face, and smyten hym with buffatis; and othere yauen strokis with the pawme of her hondis in his face,
Síðan hræktu þeir í andlit hans og slógu með prikum og sögðu:
68 and seide, Thou Crist, arede to vs, who is he that smoot thee?
„Kristur! Gettu hver sló þig núna?“
69 And Petir sat with outen in the halle; and a damysel cam to hym, and seide, Thou were with Jhesu of Galilee.
Á meðan þetta fór fram sat Pétur úti í hallargarðinum. Þá kom til hans stúlka og sagði: „Þú varst líka með Jesú og þið eruð báðir frá Galíleu.“
70 And he denyede bifor alle men, and seide, Y woot not what thou seist.
Þessu neitaði Pétur svo allir heyrðu og hrópaði reiðilega: „Ég veit ekki um hvað þú ert að tala!“
71 And whanne he yede out at the yate, another damysel say hym, and seide to hem that weren there, And this was with Jhesu of Nazareth.
Seinna tók önnur stúlka eftir honum úti við hliðið og sagði við nærstadda: „Þessi maður var með Jesú frá Nasaret.“
72 And eftsoone he denyede with an ooth, For I knewe not the man.
Pétur sór og sárt við lagði: „Ég þekki alls ekki manninn.“
73 And a litil aftir, thei that stooden camen, and seiden to Petir, Treuli thou art of hem; for thi speche makith thee knowun.
Stuttu seinna komu þeir, sem þarna stóðu, til Péturs og sögðu: „Við vitum vel að þú ert einn af lærisveinum hans, því við heyrum á málfari þínu að þú ert frá Galíleu.“
74 Thanne he bigan to warie and to swere, that he knewe not the man. And anoon the cok crewe.
Þá tók Pétur að blóta og sverja og sagði: „Ég þekki alls ekki þennan mann!“Og um leið og hann sleppti orðinu gól hani. Þá minntist Pétur orða Jesú:
75 And Petir bithouyte on the word of Jhesu, that he hadde seid, Bifore the cok crowe, thries thou schalt denye me. And he yede out, and wepte bitterli.
„Áður en hani galar, muntu þrisvar afneita mér.“Og hann gekk út fyrir og grét sárt.
