Luke 14
1 And it was don, whanne he hadde entrid in to the hous of a prince of Farisees, in the sabat, to ete breed, thei aspieden hym.
Em um sábado, Jesus foi comer na casa de um dos líderes dos fariseus, onde todos o observavam muito atentamente.
2 And lo! a man sijk in the dropesie was bifor hym.
Havia um homem lá com os braços e as pernas inchados.
3 And Jhesus answerynge spak to the wise men of lawe, and to the Farisees, and seide, Whethir it is leeueful to heele in the sabat?
Então, Jesus perguntou aos especialistas na lei religiosa e aos fariseus: “A lei permite curar no sábado ou não?”
4 And thei helden pees. And Jhesus took, and heelide hym, and let hym go.
Mas, eles ficaram quietos. Jesus tocou no homem, curou-o e o mandou embora.
5 And he answeride to hem, and seide, Whos asse or oxe of you schal falle in to a pit, and `he schal not anoon drawe hym out in the dai of the sabat?
Depois, Jesus lhes disse: “Se o seu filho ou o seu boi caísse em um poço no sábado, vocês não o tirariam de lá imediatamente?”
6 And thei myyten not answere to hym to these thingis.
Eles não foram capazes de responder a Jesus.
7 He seide also a parable to men bodun to a feeste, and biheld hou thei chesen the first sittyng placis, and seide to hem,
Então, ao notar como os convidados tinham escolhido sentar nos lugares de honra, ele contou uma história para eles. E, assim, ele começou:
8 Whanne thou art bodun to bridalis, sitte not `at the mete in the firste place; lest perauenture a worthier than thou be bodun of hym,
“Quando você for convidado para uma festa de casamento, não escolha o lugar de honra, pois pode ser que alguém mais importante do que você tenha sido convidado.
9 and lest he come that clepide thee and hym, and seie to thee, Yyue place to this, and thanne thou schalt bigynne with schame to holde the lowest place.
A pessoa que convidou os dois para a festa virá e lhe dirá: ‘Dê o seu lugar para este homem se sentar.’ Então, muito constrangido, você terá que sair desse lugar para se sentar em qualquer outro que tenha sobrado.
10 But whanne thou art bedun to a feste, go, and sitte doun in the laste place, that whanne he cometh, that bad thee to the feeste, he seie to thee, Freend, come hiyer. Thanne worschip schal be to thee, bifor men that sitten at the mete.
Em vez disso, quando você for convidado, sente-se no lugar menos importante, para que aquele que o convidou venha até você e diga: ‘Meu amigo, por favor, sente-se em um lugar melhor.’ Assim, você se sentirá honrado diante de todos os convidados.
11 For ech that enhaunsith hym, schal be lowid; and he that meketh hym, schal be hiyed.
Pois, aqueles que se engrandecem serão humilhados, mas aqueles que se humilham serão engrandecidos.”
12 And he seide to hym, that hadde bodun hym to the feeste, Whanne thou makist a mete, or a soper, nyle thou clepe thi freendis, nether thi britheren, nethir cosyns, nethir neiyboris, ne riche men; lest perauenture thei bidde thee ayen to the feeste, and it be yolde ayen to thee.
Em seguida, ele disse ao homem que o havia convidado: “Quando você oferecer um almoço ou um jantar, não convide os seus amigos, irmãos, parentes ou os seus vizinhos ricos, pois eles podem convidá-lo novamente e, assim, você seria recompensado.
13 But whanne thou makist a feeste, clepe pore men,
Em vez disso, quando você der um banquete, convide os pobres, os deficientes, os mancos e os cegos,
14 feble, crokid, and blynde, and thou schalt be blessid; for thei han not wherof to yelde thee, for it schal be yoldun to thee in the risyng ayen of iust men.
e você será abençoado, pois eles não têm nada para lhe dar em recompensa, e você será pago quando os que fazem o bem ressuscitarem.”
15 And whanne oon of hem that saten togider at the mete hadde herd these thingis, he seide to hym, Blessid is he, that schal ete breed in the rewme of God.
Quando um deles, que comia na mesa com Jesus, ouviu isso, disse a ele: “Como será maravilhoso para aqueles que irão sentar-se à mesa no Reino de Deus!”
16 And he seide to hym, A man made a greet soper, and clepide many.
Jesus respondeu; “Certa vez um homem preparou um grande banquete e convidou muita gente.
17 And he sent his seruaunt in the our of soper, to seie to men that weren bodun to the feeste, that thei schulden come, for now alle thingis ben redi.
Quando chegou a hora de comer, enviou o seu empregado para dizer a todos os convidados: ‘Venham, pois o banquete está pronto!’
18 And alle bigunnen togidir to excusen hem. The firste seide, Y haue bouyt a toun, and Y haue nede to go out, and se it; Y preye thee, haue me excusid.
Mas, todos eles começaram a dar desculpas. O primeiro disse: ‘Comprei umas terras há pouco tempo e preciso ir vê-las. Por favor, desculpe-me!’
19 And the tother seide, Y haue bouyt fyue yockis of oxun, and Y go to preue hem; Y preye thee, haue me excusid.
Outro disse: ‘Acabei de comprar dez bois e preciso ver como eles trabalham. Por favor, desculpe-me!’ Ainda outro deu a seguinte desculpa:
20 And an othir seide, Y haue weddid a wijf; and therfor Y may not come.
‘Casei-me há pouco, então, não poderei ir.’
21 And the seruaunt turnede ayen, and tolde these thingis to his lord. Thanne the hosebonde man was wrooth, and seide to his seruaunt, Go out swithe in to the grete stretis and smal stretis of the citee, and brynge ynne hidir pore men, and feble, blynde, and crokid.
O empregado voltou e contou ao seu patrão o que eles lhe tinham dito. O dono da casa ficou furioso e disse ao empregado: ‘Rápido! Saia pelas ruas e pelos becos da cidade e traga os pobres, os deficientes, os cegos e os mancos.’
22 And the seruaunt seide, Lord, it is don, as thou hast comaundid, and yit there is a void place.
Então, o empregado disse: ‘Senhor, fiz o que você me disse para fazer, mas ainda há lugares que estão vazios.’
23 And the lord seide to the seruaunt, Go out in to weies and heggis, and constreine men to entre, that myn hous be fulfillid.
Então, o patrão disse ao empregado: ‘Vá pelas estradas e pelos caminhos rurais e convide a todos. Eu quero que a minha casa fique completamente cheia.
24 For Y seie to you, that noon of tho men that ben clepid, schal taaste my soper.
Pois eu lhe digo que ninguém que eu tenha convidado antes provará o meu banquete.’”
25 And myche puple wenten with hym; and he turnede, and seide to hem,
Grande multidões acompanhavam Jesus. Ele se virou para eles e disse:
26 If ony man cometh to me, and hatith not his fadir, and modir, and wijf, and sones, and britheren, and sistris, and yit his owne lijf, he may not be my disciple.
“Se vocês querem me seguir, e não me amar mais do que ama o seu pai e a sua mãe, a sua esposa e os seus filhos, os seus irmãos e as suas irmãs, e até mesmo a sua própria vida, vocês não podem ser meus discípulos.
27 And he that berith not his cross, and cometh aftir me, may not be my disciple.
Se não carregarem a sua cruz e me seguirem, não poderão ser meus discípulos.
28 For who of you willynge to bilde a toure, whether he `first sitte not, and countith the spensis that ben nedeful, if he haue to perfourme?
Se planejarem construir uma torre, vocês primeiro não precisam saber quanto isso custará, e ver se terão dinheiro o bastante para pagar pela construção?
29 Lest aftir that he hath set the foundement, and mowe not perfourme, alle that seen, bigynnen to scorne hym, and seie, For this man bigan to bilde,
Caso contrário, se após colocarem o alicerce, vocês não forem capazes de terminá-la, todos que virem isso irão rir de vocês, dizendo:
30 and myyte not make an ende.
‘Olhem! Ele começou a construir, mas não teve dinheiro suficiente para terminar.’
31 Or what kyng that wole go to do a bataile ayens anothir kyng, whether he sittith not first, and bithenkith, if he may with ten thousynde go ayens hym that cometh ayens hym with twenti thousynde?
Que rei entra em guerra com outro rei sem primeiro sentar e consultar os seus conselheiros, para descobrir se ele e os seus dez mil homens podem vencer o seu oponente que marcha contra ele com os seus vinte mil homens?
32 Ellis yit while he is afer, he sendynge a messanger, preieth tho thingis that ben of pees.
Se ele não puder vencer, enviará representantes para pedir um acordo de paz, enquanto o outro rei ainda estiver longe o bastante.
33 So therfor ech of you, that forsakith not alle thingis that he hath, may not be my disciple.
Da mesma maneira, nenhum de vocês pode ser meu discípulo sem antes abrir mão de tudo o que tem.
34 Salt is good; but if salt vanysche, in what thing schal it be sauerid?
O sal é bom, mas se ele perder o sabor, o que vocês poderão fazer para que ele volte a salgar os alimentos?
35 Nethir in erthe, nethir in donghille it is profitable, but it schal be cast out. He that hath eeris of herynge, here he.
Ele não é bom nem para a terra e nem para ser usado como fertilizante. Ele é simplesmente jogado fora. Aquele que tem ouvidos, que ouça!”
