Leviticus 21
1 And the Lord seide to Moyses, Speke thou to preestis, the sones of Aaron, and thou schalt seie to hem, A preest be not defoulid in the deed men of hise citeseyns,
Le Seigneur dit aussi à Moïse: Parle aux prêtres, fils d’Aaron, et tu leur diras: Qu’un prêtre ne se souille point à la mort de ses concitoyens;
2 no but oneli in kynesmen and niy of blood, that is, on fadir and modir, and sone and douyter,
Or, il s’y souillera, à moins qu’il ne s’agisse seulement de ses consanguins et de ses proches, c’est-à-dire, de son père et de sa mère, de son fils et de sa fille, de son frère,
3 and brother and sister, virgyn, which is not weddid to man;
Et de sa sœur vierge, qui n’a pas été mariée à un homme;
4 but nether he schal be defoulid in the prince of his puple.
Mais il ne se souillera pas non plus pour le prince de son peuple.
5 Preestis schulen not schaue the heed, nether beerd, nether thei schulen make keruyngis in her fleischis; thei schulen be hooli to her God,
Ils ne raseront point leur tête, ni leur barbe, et dans leur chair ils ne feront point d’incisions.
6 and thei schulen not defoule his name; for thei offren encense of the Lord, and the looues of her God, and therfore thei schulen be hooli.
Ils seront saints pour leur Dieu et ils ne souilleront point son nom; car ils offrent l’holocauste du Seigneur, et les pains de leur Dieu, et c’est pour cela qu’ils seront saints.
7 A preest schal not wedde a wijf a corrupt womman, and a `foul hoore, nether he schal wedde `hir that is forsakun of the hosebonde, for he is halewid to his God,
Ils n’épouseront point une femme déshonorée et une fille prostituée, ni celle qui a été répudiée par son mari; parce qu’ils sont consacrés à leur Dieu,
8 and offrith the looues of settyng forth; therfor be he hooly, for `Y am the hooli Lord that halewith you.
Et qu’ils offrent les pains de proposition. Qu’ils soient donc saints, parce que je suis saint, moi aussi, le Seigneur qui les sanctifie.
9 If the `doutir of a preest is takun in defoulyng of virgynite, and defoulith the name of hir fadir, sche schal be brent in flawmes.
Si la fille d’un prêtre est surprise en fornication et qu’elle ait déshonoré le nom de son père, elle sera complètement brûlée par les flammes.
10 The bischop, that is the moost preest among hise britheren, on whose heed the oile of anoyntyng is sched, and whose hondis ben sacrid in preesthod, and he is clothid in hooli clothis, schal not diskyuere his heed, he schal not tere hise clothis,
Le pontife, c’est-à-dire, le grand-prêtre parmi ses frères, sur la tête duquel l’huile de l’onction a été répandue, dont les mains ont été consacrées à son sacerdoce et qui est revêtu des saints vêtements, ne découvrira point sa tête et ne déchirera point ses vêtements:
11 and outirli he schal not entre to ony deed man; and he schal not be defoulid on his fadir and modir,
Et il n’entrera absolument auprès d’aucun mort: pour son père même et pour sa mère il ne se souillera point.
12 nether he schal go out of hooli thingis, lest he defoule the seyntuarie of the Lord, for the oile of hooli anoyntyng of his God is on hym; Y am the Lord.
Une sortira point des lieux saints, afin qu’il ne souille pas le sanctuaire du Seigneur, parce que l’huile de la sainte onction de son Dieu est sur lui. Je suis le Seigneur.
13 He schal wedde a wijf virgyn;
C’est une vierge qu’il prendra pour femme;
14 he schal not take a widewe, and forsakun, and a foul womman, and hoore, but a damesele of his puple;
Mais il ne prendra point une veuve, et une femme répudiée, ou déshonorée, ni une prostituée, mais une jeune fille de son peuple.
15 medle he not the generacioun of his kyn to the comyn puple of his folk, for Y am the Lord, that `halewe hym.
Qu’il ne mêle point le sang de sa race avec le vulgaire de sa nation, parce que je suis le Seigneur qui le sanctifie.
16 And the Lord spak to Moyses,
Le Seigneur parla encore à Moïse, disant:
17 and seide, Speke thou to Aaron; a man of thi seed, bi meynes, that hath a wem, schal not offre breed to his God,
Dis à Aaron: Un homme de ta lignée dans tes familles, qui aura une tache, n’offrira point des pains à son Dieu;
18 nethir schal neiy to his seruyce;
Et il ne s’approchera point de son ministère, s’il est aveugle, s’il est boiteux, s’il a le nez petit, ou grand, ou tordu,
19 if he is blind; if he is crokid; if he is ether of litil, ether of greet, and wrong nose; if he is `of brokun foot, ethir hond;
S’il a le pied rompu ou la main,
20 if he hath a botche; ether if he is blereiyed; if he hath whijt colour in the iye, that lettith the siyt; if he hath contynuel scabbe; if he hath a drye scabbe in the bodi; ethir `is brokun `in the pryuy membris.
S’il est bossu, s’il est chassieux, s’il a une taie sur l’œil, s’il a une gale continue, ou une dartre vive sur le corps, ou une hernie.
21 Ech man of the seed of Aaron preest, which man hath a wem, schal not neiye to offre sacrifices to the Lord, nether `to offre looues to his God;
Quiconque de la race d’Aaron, le prêtre, aura une tache, ne s’approchera point pour offrir des hosties au Seigneur, ni des pains à son Dieu:
22 netheles he schal ete the looues that ben offrid in the seyntuarie,
Il mangera néanmoins des pains qui sont offerts dans le sanctuaire,
23 so oneli that he entre not with ynne the veil; he schal not neiye to the auter, for he hath a wem, and he schal not defoule my seyntuarie; Y am the Lord that halewe hem.
De telle sorte seulement, qu’il n’entre pas au dedans du voile, et qu’il ne s’approche pas de l’autel, parce qu’il a une tache et qu’il ne doit point souiller mon sanctuaire. Je suis le Seigneur qui vous sanctifie.
24 Therfor Moises spak to Aaron, and to hise sones, and to al Israel, alle thingis that weren comaundid to hym.
Moïse dit donc à Aaron, à ses fils et à tout Israël tout ce qui lui avait été commandé.
