Judges 2
1 And the aungel of the Lord stiede fro Galgala to the place of weperis, and seide, Y ledde you out of Egipt, and Y brouyte you in to the lond, `for which Y swoor to youre fadris, and bihiyte, that Y schulde not make void my couenaunt with you in to with outen ende;
Or l'Ange de l'Eternel monta de Guilgal à Bokim, et dit: Je vous ai fait monter hors d'Egypte, et je vous ai fait entrer au pays dont j'avais juré à vos pères, et j'ai dit: Je n'enfreindrai jamais mon alliance que j'ai traitée avec vous.
2 so oneli that ye schulde not smyte boond of pees with the dwelleris of this lond, and schulden distrie `the auteris of hem; and ye nolden here my vois. Whi diden ye these thingis?
Et vous aussi vous ne traiterez point alliance avec les habitants de ce pays; vous démolirez leurs autels; mais vous n'avez point obéi à ma voix; qu'est-ce que vous avez fait?
3 Wherfore Y nolde do hem awei fro youre face, that ye haue enemyes, and that `the goddis of hem be to you in to fallyng.
Et j'ai dit aussi: Je ne les chasserai point de devant vous, mais ils seront à vos côtés, et leurs dieux vous seront en piège.
4 And whanne the `aungel of the Lord spak these wordis to alle the sones of Israel, thei reisiden her vois, and wepten; and the name of that place was clepid,
Et il arriva qu'aussitôt que l'Ange de l'Eternel eut dit ces paroles à tous les enfants d'Israël, le peuple éleva sa voix, et pleura.
5 of weperis, ether of teeris; and thei offriden there sacrifices to the Lord.
C'est pourquoi ils appelèrent ce lieu-là Bokim; et ils sacrifièrent là à l'Eternel.
6 Therfor Josue lefte the puple; and the sones of Israel wenten forth, ech man in to his possessioun, that thei schulden gete it.
Or Josué avait renvoyé le peuple, et les enfants d'Israël s'en étaient allés chacun à son héritage, pour posséder le pays.
7 And thei serueden the Lord in alle the daies of Josue, and of eldere men that lyueden aftir hym in long tyme, and knewen alle the grete werkis of the Lord, whiche he hadde do with Israel.
Et le peuple avait servi l'Eternel tout le temps de Josué, et tout le temps des Anciens qui avaient survécu à Josué, [et] qui avaient vu toutes les grandes œuvres de l'Eternel, lesquelles il avait faites pour Israël.
8 Forsothe Josue, sone of Nun, `seruaunt of the Lord, `was deed of an hundrid yeer and ten;
Puis Josué, fils de Nun, serviteur de l'Eternel, était mort, âgé de cent dix ans.
9 and thei birieden hym in the endis of his possessioun, in Thannath of Sare, in the hil of Effraym, at the north coost of the hil Gaas.
Et on l'avait enseveli dans les bornes de son héritage à Timnath-Hérés, en la montagne d'Ephraïm, du côté du Septentrion de la montagne de Gahas.
10 And al that generacioun was gaderid to her fadris; and othere men riseden, that knewen not the Lord, and the werkis whiche he `hadde do with Israel.
Et toute cette génération aussi avait été recueillie avec ses pères; puis une autre génération s'était levée après eux, laquelle n'avait point connu l'Eternel, ni les œuvres qu'il avait faites pour Israël.
11 And the sones of Israel diden yuel in the siyt of the Lord, and thei serueden Baalym and Astaroth;
Les enfants d'Israël donc firent ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel, et servirent les Bahalins.
12 and forsoken the Lord God of her fadris, that ledden hem out of the lond of Egipt; and thei sueden alien goddis, the goddis of puplis, that dwelliden in `the cumpasse of hem, and worschipeden tho goddis, and excitiden the Lord to greet wraththe, and forsoken hym,
Et ayant abandonné l'Eternel, le Dieu de leurs pères, qui les avait fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, ils allèrent après d'autres dieux, d'entre les dieux des peuples qui [étaient] autour d'eux, et ils se prosternèrent devant eux; ainsi ils irritèrent l'Eternel.
13 and serueden Baal and Astoroth.
Ils abandonnèrent donc l'Eternel, et servirent Bahal et Hastaroth.
14 And the Lord was wrooth ayens Israel, and bitook hem in to the hondis of rauyscheris, whiche rauyscheris token hem, and seelden to enemyes, that dwelliden `bi cumpas; and thei myyten not ayenstonde her aduersaries;
Et la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les livra entre les mains de gens qui les pillèrent; et il les vendit en la main de leurs ennemis d'alentour, de sorte qu'ils ne purent plus se maintenir devant leurs ennemis.
15 but whidir euer thei wolden go, the hond of the Lord was on hem, as he spak and swoor to hem; and thei weren turmentid greetli.
Partout où ils allaient, la main de l'Eternel était contr'eux en mal, comme l'Eternel en avait parlé, et comme l'Eternel le leur avait juré, et ils furent dans de [grandes] angoisses.
16 And the Lord reiside iugis, that `delyueriden hem fro the hondis of destrieris, but thei nolden here hem,
Et l'Eternel leur suscitait des Juges, qui les délivraient de la main de ceux qui les pillaient.
17 and thei diden fornycacioun, `that is, idolatrie, with alien goddis, and worschipiden hem. Soone thei forsoken the weie, bi which `the fadris of hem entriden; and thei herden the `comaundementis of the Lord, and diden alle thingis contrarie.
Mais ils ne voulaient pas même écouter leurs Juges, ils paillardaient après d'autres dieux; ils se prosternaient devant eux; ils se détournaient aussitôt du chemin par lequel leurs pères avaient marché, obéissant aux commandements de l'Eternel; mais eux ne faisaient pas ainsi.
18 And whanne the Lord reiside iugis in `the daies of hem, he was bowid bi mercy, and he herde the weilyngis of hem turmentid, and he delyuerede hem fro the sleyng of wasteris.
Or quand l'Eternel leur suscitait des Juges, l'Eternel était aussi avec le Juge, et il les délivrait de la main de leurs ennemis pendant tout le temps du Juge; car l'Eternel se repentait pour les sanglots qu'ils jetaient à cause de ceux qui les opprimaient et qui les accablaient.
19 Sotheli aftir that the iuge was deed, thei turneden ayen, and diden many thingis grettere `in yuel than her fadris diden; and thei sueden alien goddis, and serueden hem, and worschipiden hem; thei leften not her owne fyndyngis, and the hardeste weie `bi which thei weren wont to go.
Puis il arrivait que quand le Juge mourait, ils se corrompaient de nouveau plus que leurs pères, allant après d'autres dieux pour les servir, et se prosterner devant eux; ils ne diminuaient rien de leur mauvaise conduite ni de leur train obstiné.
20 And the strong veniaunce of the Lord was wrooth ayens Israel, and he seide, For this puple hath maad voide my couenaunt which Y couenauntide with her fadris, and dispiside to here my vois; also Y schal not do a wey folkis,
C'est pourquoi la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Israël, et il dit: Parce que cette nation a transgressé mon alliance que j'avais commandée à leurs pères, et qu'ils n ont point obéi à ma voix;
21 whiche Josue `lefte, and was deed;
Aussi je ne déposséderai plus de devant eux aucune des nations que Josué laissa quand il mourut;
22 that in hem Y asaie Israel, whether thei kepen the weie of the Lord, and goen ther ynne, as her fadris kepten, ether nay.
Afin d'éprouver par elles Israël, [et voir] s'ils garderont la voie de l'Eternel pour y marcher, comme leurs pères l'ont gardée, ou non.
23 Therfor the Lord lefte alle these naciouns, and nolde destrie soone, nethir bitook in to the hondis of Josue.
L'Eternel donc laissa ces nations-là sans les déposséder sitôt, et il ne les livra point entre les mains de Josué.
