1 A man was a dekene dwellinge in the side of the hil of Effraym, which dekene took a wijf of Bethleem of Juda.
and to be in/on/with day [the] they(masc.) and king nothing in/on/with Israel and to be man Levi to sojourn in/on/with flank mountain: hill country Ephraim and to take: take to/for him woman: wife concubine from Bethlehem Bethlehem Judah
2 And sche lefte hym, and turnede ayen in to the hows of hir fadir in Bethleem, and sche dwellide at hym foure monethis.
and to fornicate upon him concubine his and to go: went from with him to(wards) house: home father her to(wards) Bethlehem Bethlehem Judah and to be there day four month
3 And hir hosebonde suede hir, and wolde be recounselid to hir, and speke faire, and lede hir ayen with him; and he hadde in cumpany a child, and tweyne assis. And sche resseyuede hym, and brouyte him in to `the hows of hir fadir; and whanne hise wyues fadir hadde herd this, and `hadde seyn hym, he ran gladli to hym, and kisside the man.
and to arise: rise man: husband her and to go: went after her to/for to speak: speak upon heart her (to/for to return: rescue her *Q(K)*) and youth his with him and pair donkey and to come (in): bring him house: home father her and to see: see him father [the] maiden and to rejoice to/for to encounter: meet him
4 And the hosebonde of the douytir dwellide in `the hows of his wyues fadir in three daies, and eet and drank hoomli with hym.
and to strengthen: hold in/on/with him relative his father [the] maiden and to dwell with him three day and to eat and to drink and to lodge there
5 Sotheli in the fourthe dai he roos bi nyyt, and wolde go forth; whom `the fadir of his wijf helde, and seide to hym, Taaste thou first a litil of breed, and coumforte thi stomak, and so thou schalt go forth.
and to be in/on/with day [the] fourth and to rise in/on/with morning and to arise: rise to/for to go: went and to say father [the] maiden to(wards) son-in-law his to support heart your morsel food: bread and after to go: went
6 And thei saten togidere, and eeten, and drunkun. And the fadir of the damysele seide to `the hosebonde of his douyter, Y beseche thee, that thou dwelle here to dai, and that we be glad togidere.
and to dwell and to eat two their together and to drink and to say father [the] maiden to(wards) [the] man be willing please and to lodge and be good heart your
7 And he roos, and bigan to wilne to go; and neuertheles `the fadir of his wijf helde hym mekeli, and made to dwelle at hym.
and to arise: rise [the] man to/for to go: went and to press in/on/with him relative his and to return: again and to lodge there
8 Forsothe whanne the morewtid was maad, the dekene made redi weie; to whom `the fadir of his wijf seide eft, Y biseche, that thow take a litil of mete, and make thee strong til the dai encreesse, and aftirward go forth. Therfor thei eten togidere.
and to rise in/on/with morning in/on/with day [the] fifth to/for to go: went and to say father [the] maiden to support please heart your and to delay till to stretch [the] day and to eat two their
9 And the yong man roos to go with his wijf and child; to whom the fadir of his wijf spak eft, Biholde thou, that the dai is `lowere to the goynge doun, and it neiyeth to euentid; dwelle thou at me also to dai, and lede a glad dai, and to morewe thou schalt go forth, that thou go in to thin hows.
and to arise: rise [the] man to/for to go: went he/she/it and concubine his and youth his and to say to/for him relative his father [the] maiden behold please to slacken [the] day to/for to grow dark to lodge please behold to camp [the] day to lodge here and be good heart your and to rise tomorrow to/for way: journey your and to go: went to/for tent: home your
10 The `hosebonde of the douytir nolde assente to hise wordis; but he yede forth anoon, and cam ayens Jebus, which bi another name is clepid Jerusalem; and he ledde with hym twei assis chargid, and the wijf.
and not be willing [the] man to/for to lodge and to arise: rise and to go: went and to come (in): come till before Jebus he/she/it Jerusalem and with him pair donkey to saddle/tie and concubine his with him
11 And now thei weren bisidis Jebus, and the day was chaungid in to nyyt. And the child seide to his lord, Come thou, Y biseche, bowe we to the citee of Jebus, and dwelle we therynne.
they(masc.) with Jebus and [the] day to go down much and to say [the] youth to(wards) lord his to go: come! [emph?] please and to turn aside: turn aside to(wards) city [the] Jebusite [the] this and to lodge in/on/with her
12 To whom the lord answeride, Y schal not entre in to the citee of an alien folc, which is not of the sones of Israel, but Y schal passe `til to Gabaa;
and to say to(wards) him lord his not to turn aside: turn aside to(wards) city foreign which not from son: descendant/people Israel they(fem.) and to pass till Gibeah
13 and whanne Y schal come thidur, we schulen dwelle therynne, `ether certis in the citee of Rama.
and to say to/for youth his (to go: follow [emph?] *Q(K)*) and to present: come in/on/with one [the] place and to lodge in/on/with Gibeah or in/on/with Ramah
14 Therfor thei passiden Jebus, and token the weie bigunnun. And the sunne yede doun to hem bisidis Gabaa, which is in the lynage of Beniamyn;
and to pass and to go: went and to come (in): come to/for them [the] sun beside [the] Gibeah which to/for Benjamin
15 and thei turneden to it, that thei schulden dwelle there. Whidur whanne thei hadden entrid, thei saten in the street of the citee, and no man wolde resseyue hem to herbore.
and to turn aside: turn aside there to/for to come (in): come to/for to lodge in/on/with Gibeah and to come (in): come and to dwell in/on/with street/plaza [the] city and nothing man: anyone to gather [obj] them [the] house: home [to] to/for to lodge
16 And lo! an eld man turnede ayen fro the feeld, and fro his werk in the euentid, and apperide to hem, which also hym silf was of the hil of Effraym, and he dwellide a pilgrym in Gabaa. Therfor men of that cuntrey weren the sones of Gemyny.
and behold man old to come (in): come from deed: work his from [the] land: country in/on/with evening and [the] man from mountain: hill country Ephraim and he/she/it to sojourn in/on/with Gibeah and human [the] place Benjaminite Benjaminite
17 And whanne the eld man reiside his iyen, he siy a man sittynge with hise fardels in the street of the citee; and he seide to `that man, Fro whennus comest thou? and whidur goist thou?
and to lift: look eye his and to see: see [obj] [the] man [the] to journey in/on/with street/plaza [the] city and to say [the] man [the] old where? to go: went and from where? to come (in): come
18 Which answeride to hym, We yeden forth fro Bethleem of Juda, and we gon to oure place, which is in the side of the hil of Effraym, fro whennus we yeden to Bethleem; and now we gon to the hows of God, and no man wole resseyue vs vndur his roof,
and to say to(wards) him to pass we from Bethlehem Bethlehem Judah till flank mountain: hill country Ephraim from there I and to go: went till Bethlehem Bethlehem Judah and [obj] house: temple LORD I to go: went and nothing man: anyone to gather [obj] me [the] house: home [to]
19 and we han prouendre and hey in to mete of assis, and breed and wyn in to myn vsis, and of thin handmayde, and of the child which is with me; we han no nede to ony thing, no but to herbore.
and also straw also fodder there to/for donkey our and also food: bread and wine there to/for me and to/for maidservant your and to/for youth with servant/slave your nothing need all word: thing
20 To whom the eld man answeride, Pees be with thee; Y schal yyue alle `thingis, that ben nedeful; oneli, Y biseche, dwelle thou not in the street.
and to say [the] man [the] old peace to/for you except all need your upon me except in/on/with street/plaza not to lodge
21 And he brouyte hym in to his hows, and yaf `mete to the assis; and after that thei waischiden her feet, he resseyuede hem `in to feeste.
and to come (in): bring him to/for house: home his (and to feed *Q(k)*) to/for donkey and to wash: wash foot their and to eat and to drink
22 While thei eeten, and refreischiden the bodies with mete and drynk after the trauel of weie, men of that citee camen, the sones of Belial, that is, with out yok, and thei cumpassiden the `hows of the elde man, and bigunnun to knocke the doris; and thei crieden to the lord of the hows, and seiden, Lede out the man that entride in to thin hows, that we mysuse him.
they(masc.) be good [obj] heart their and behold human [the] city human son: young animal Belial to turn: surround [obj] [the] house: home to beat upon [the] door and to say to(wards) [the] man master: men [the] house: home [the] old to/for to say to come out: send [obj] [the] man which to come (in): come to(wards) house: home your and to know him
23 And the elde man yede out to hem, and seide, Nyle ye, britheren, nyle ye do this yuel; for the man entride in to myn herbore; and ceesse ye of this foli.
and to come out: come to(wards) them [the] man master [the] house: home and to say to(wards) them not brother: compatriot my not be evil please after which to come (in): come [the] man [the] this to(wards) house: home my not to make: do [obj] [the] folly [the] this
24 Y haue a douyter virgyn, and this man hath a wijf; Y schal lede out hem to you, that ye make lowe hem, and fille youre lust; oneli, Y biseche, that ye worche not this cursidnesse ayens kynde `ayens the man.
behold daughter my [the] virgin and concubine his to come out: send please [obj] them and to afflict [obj] them and to make: do to/for them [the] pleasant in/on/with eye: appearance your and to/for man [the] this not to make: do word: thing [the] folly [the] this
25 Thei nolden assente to hise wordis; which thing the man siy, and ledde out his wijf to hem, and bitook to hem hir to be defoulid. And whanne thei hadden misusid hir al niyt, thei leften hir in the morewtid.
and not be willing [the] human to/for to hear: hear to/for him and to strengthen: hold [the] man in/on/with concubine his and to come out: come to(wards) them [the] outside and to know [obj] her and to abuse in/on/with her all [the] night till [the] morning and to send: let go her (like/as to ascend: dawn *Q(K)*) [the] dawn
26 And whanne the derknessis departiden, the womman cam to the dore of the hows, where hir lord dwellide, and there sche felde doun.
and to come (in): come [the] woman to/for to turn [the] morning and to fall: kill entrance house: home [the] man which lord her there till [the] light
27 Whanne the morewtid was maad, the man roos, and openyde the dore, `that he schulde fille the weie bigunnun; and lo! his wijf lay bifor the dore, with hondis spred in the threischfold.
and to arise: rise lord her in/on/with morning and to open door [the] house: home and to come out: come to/for to go: went to/for way: journey his and behold [the] woman concubine his to fall: kill entrance [the] house: home and hand her upon [the] threshold
28 And he gesside `hir to reste, `and spak to hir, Rise thou, and go we. `And whanne sche answeride no thing, he vndirstode that sche was deed; and he took hir, and puttide on the asse, and turnede ayen in to his hows.
and to say to(wards) her to arise: rise and to go: went and nothing to answer and to take: bring her upon [the] donkey and to arise: rise [the] man and to go: went to/for place his
29 And whanne he entride in `to that hows, he took a swerd, and departide in to twelue partis and gobetis the deed body of the wijf, and sente in to alle the termes of Israel.
and to come (in): come to(wards) house: home his and to take: take [obj] [the] knife and to strengthen: hold in/on/with concubine his and to cut her to/for bone her to/for two ten piece and to send: depart her in/on/with all border: area Israel
30 And whanne alle `men hadden herde this, thei crieden, Neuere siche a thing was don in Israel, fro that dai `in which oure fadris stieden fro Egipt `til in to `present tyme; seie ye sentence, and deme ye in comyn, what is nede to be doon.
