Judges 12
1 `Lo! forsothe discencioun roos in Effraym; for whi thei, that passiden ayens the north, seiden to Jepte, Whi yedist thou to batel ayens the sones of Amon, and noldist clepe vs, that we schulden go with thee? Therfor we schulen brenne thin hows.
Nu verzamelden zich ook de Efraïmieten, en trokken over naar Safon. Ze zeiden tot Jefte: Waarom zijt ge uitgerukt, om de Ammonieten te bestrijden, zonder ons op te roepen, om met u mee te gaan? We zullen uw huis boven uw hoofd in brand steken.
2 To whiche he answeride, Greet strijf was to me and to my puple ayens the sones of Amon, and Y clepide you, that ye schulden `yyue help to me, and ye nolden do.
Jefte antwoordde hun: Toen ik en mijn volk in oorlog waren en de Ammonieten mij zwaar verdrukten, heb ik een beroep op u gedaan, maar ge hebt me niet uit hun handen verlost.
3 `Which thing Y siy, and puttide my lijf in myn hondis; and Y passide to the sones of Amon, and `the Lord bitook hem in to myn hondis; what haue Y disseruyd, that ye ryse togidere ayens me in to batel?
Daar ik dus zag, dat gij toch niet zoudt helpen, heb ik al mijn moed bijeengeraapt en ben tegen de Ammonieten uitgetrokken. En Jahweh leverde ze in mijn hand. Wat trekt ge dan nu tegen mij op, om mij te bestrijden!
4 Therfor whanne alle the men of Galaad weren clepid to hym, he fauyt ayens Effraym; and the men of Galaad smytiden Effraym; for he seide, Galaad is `fugitif ether exilid fro Effraym, and dwellith in the myddis of Effraym and of Manasses.
Nu bracht Jefte alle mannen van Gilad bijeen, en bond de strijd aan met de Efraïmieten. En Gilads mannen versloegen Efraïm.
5 And the men of Galaad ocupieden the forthis of Jordan, bi whiche Effraym schulden turne ayen. And whanne a man fleynge of the noumbre of Effraym hadde come to tho forthis, and hadde seid, Y biseche, that thou suffre me passe; men of Galaad seiden to hym, Whether thou art a man of Effraym? And whanne he seide, Y am not,
Gilad sneed Efraïm de wedden van de Jordaan af, en wanneer de efraïmietische vluchtelingen wilden oversteken, vroegen de mannen van Gilad: Zijt ge een Efraïmiet? Antwoordde hij: Neen!
6 thei axiden hym, Seie thou therfor Sebolech, `whiche is interpretid, `an eer of corn. Which answeride, Thebolech, and myyte not brynge forth an eer of corn bi the same lettre. And anoon thei strangeliden hym takun in thilke passyng of Jordan; and two and fourti thousynde of Effraym felden doun in that tyme.
dan zeiden ze hem: Zeg dan eens: "sjibbólet". En wanneer hij dan "sibbólet" zei, omdat hij het niet goed kon uitspreken, grepen ze hem, en maakten hem af bij de wedden van de Jordaan. Want ze zeiden: Dan zijt ge vluchtelingen van Efraïm! Gilad ligt tussen Efraïm en Manasse. Zo vielen er toen van Efraïm twee en veertig duizend man.
7 And so Jepte, `a man of Galaad, demyde Israel sixe yeer; and he `was deed, and biried in his citee Galaad.
Gedurende zes jaren was Jefte rechter over Israël. Toen stierf Jefte de Giladiet, en werd te Safon in Gilad begraven.
8 Abethsan of Bethleem, that hadde thretti sones, and so many douytris, demyde Israel aftir Jepte;
Na hem was Ibsan uit Betlehem rechter over Israël.
9 whiche douytris he sente out, and yaf to hosebondis, and he took wyues to hise sones of the same noumbre, and brouyte in to hys hows; which demyde Israel seuene yeer;
Hij had dertig zonen; zijn dertig dochters huwde hij uit naar den vreemde; en voor zijn zonen bracht hij dertig meisjes van buiten in zijn huis. Gedurende zeven jaren was hij rechter over Israël.
10 and he `was deed, and biried in Bethleem.
Toen stierf Ibsan, en werd te Betlehem begraven.
11 Whos successour was Hailon of Zabulon; and he demyde Israel ten yeer;
Na hem trad Elon uit Zabulon als rechter over Israël op. Gedurende tien jaar was hij rechter over Israël.
12 and he was deed, and biried in Zabulon.
Toen stierf Elon uit Zabulon, en werd te Elon in het land van Zabulon begraven.
13 Aftir hym Abdon, the sone of Ellel, of Pharaton, demyde Israel;
Na hem was Abdon, de zoon van Hillel, uit Piraton rechter over Israël.
14 which Abdon hadde fourti sones, and of hem thretti sones, stiynge on seuenti coltis of femal assis, `that is, mulis, and he demyde Israel eiyte yeer;
Hij had veertig zonen en dertig kleinzoons, die op zeventig jonge ezels reden. Gedurende acht jaar was hij rechter over Israël.
15 and he `was deed, and biried in Pharaton, in the loond of Effraym, in the hil of Amalech.
Toen stierf Abdon, de zoon van Hillel, uit Piraton, en werd in Piraton in het land van Efraïm op de Amalekieten-berg begraven.
