Joshua 8
1 Forsothe the Lord seide to Josue, Nether drede thou `withoutforth, `nether drede thou withynne; take with thee al the multitude of fiyteris, and rise thou, and stie in to the citee of Hay; lo, Y haue bitake in thin hond the king therof, and the puple, and the citee, and the lond.
Puis l'Eternel dit à Josué: Ne crains point, et ne t'effraye de rien. Prends avec toi tout le peuple propre à la guerre, et te lève, monte contre Haï; regarde, j'ai livré entre tes mains le Roi de Haï, et son peuple, et sa ville, et son pays.
2 And thou schalt do to the citee of Hay, and to the king therof, as thou didist to Gerico, and to the king therof; sotheli ye schulen take to you the prey, and alle lyuynge beestis; sette thou `aspies, ethir buyschementis, to the citee bihynde it.
Et tu feras à Haï, et à son Roi, comme tu as fait à Jérico, et à son Roi: seulement vous en pillerez pour vous le butin, et les bêtes. Mets des gens en embuscade derrière la ville.
3 And Josue roos, and al the oost of fiyteris with hym, to stie in to Hay; and bi nyyte he sente thretti chosen thousynde of stronge men;
Josué donc se leva avec tout le peuple propre à la guerre, pour monter contre Haï, et Josué choisit trente mille hommes forts et vaillants, et les envoya de nuit.
4 and comaundide to hem, and seide, Sette ye buyschementis bihynde the citee, and go ye not ferthere; and alle ye schulen be redi;
Et il leur commanda, disant: Voyez, vous qui serez en embuscade derrière la ville, ne vous éloignez pas beaucoup de la ville, mais tenez-vous prêts.
5 forsothe Y, and the tothir multitude which is with me, schulen come on the contrarie side ayens the citee; and whanne thei schulen go out ayens vs, as we diden bifore, we schulen fle, and turne the backis,
Et moi, et tout le peuple qui est avec moi, nous nous approcherons de la ville, et quand ils sortiront à notre rencontre, comme [ils ont fait] la première fois, nous nous enfuirons de devant eux.
6 til thei pursuen, and ben drawun away ferthir fro the citee; for thei schulen gesse, that we schulen fle as bifore.
Ainsi ils sortiront après nous, jusqu'à ce que nous les ayons attirés hors de la ville; car ils diront: Ils fuient devant nous comme la première fois; parce que nous fuirons devant eux.
7 Therfor while we schulen fle, and thei pursue, ye schulen ryse fro the buyschementis, and schulen waste the citee; and youre Lord God schal bitake it in to youre hondis.
Mais vous vous lèverez de l'embuscade, et vous vous saisirez de la ville; car l'Eternel votre Dieu la livrera entre vos mains.
8 And whanne ye han take it, `brenne ye it; `so ye schulen do alle thingis, as Y comaundide.
Et quand vous l'aurez prise, vous y mettrez le feu; vous ferez selon la parole de l'Eternel. Regardez, je vous l'ai commandé.
9 And Josue lefte hem, and thei yeden to the place of buyschementis, and saten bitwixe Bethel and Hay, at the west coost of the citee of Hay. Forsothe Josue dwellide `in that nyyt in the myddis of the puple.
Josué donc les envoya, et ils allèrent se mettre en embuscade, et se tinrent entre Béthel et Haï, à l'Occident de Haï; mais Josué demeura cette nuit-là avec le peuple.
10 And he roos eerli, and noumbride felowis, and stiede with the eldere in the frount of the oost, and was cumpassid with the helpe of fiyteris.
Puis Josué se leva de bon matin, et dénombra le peuple; et il monta lui et les anciens d'Israël, devant le peuple vers Haï.
11 And whanne thei hadden come, and hadden stied ayens the citee, thei stoden at the north coost of the citee, bitwixe which citee and hem the valei was in the myddis.
Et tout le peuple propre à la guerre, qui [était] avec lui, monta, et s'approcha, et ils vinrent vis-à-vis de la ville, et se campèrent du côté du Septentrion de Haï; et la vallée était entre lui et Haï.
12 `Sotheli he hadde chose fyue thousynde men, and hadde sette in buyschementis bitwixe Bethauen and Hay, in the west part of the same citee.
Il prit aussi environ cinq mille hommes, lesquels il mit en embuscade entre Béthel et Haï, à l'Occident de Haï.
13 Sotheli al the tothir oost dresside scheltroun to the north, so that the laste men of the multitude touchiden the west coost of the citee. Therfor Josue yede in that nyyt, and stood in the myddis of the valei;
Et le peuple mit tout le camp qui était du côté du Septentrion contre la ville, et l'embuscade, à l'Occident de la ville; et cette nuit-là Josué s'avança dans la vallée.
14 and whanne the kyng of Hai had seyn that, he hastide eerli, and yede out with al the oost of the citee, and he dresside scheltrun ayens the deseert; and wiste not that buyschementis weren hid bihinde the bak.
Or il arriva qu'aussitôt que le Roi de Haï l'eut vu, les hommes de la ville se hâtèrent, et se levèrent de bon matin, et au temps marqué le Roi et tout son peuple sortirent à la campagne contre Israël pour le combattre. Or il ne savait pas qu'il y eût des gens en embuscade contre lui derrière la ville.
15 Forsothe Josue and al the multitude `of Israel yauen place, feynynge drede, and fleynge bi the weie of wildirnesse; and thei crieden togidere,
Alors Josué et tout Israël [feignant d'être] battus à leur rencontre s'enfuirent par le chemin du désert.
16 and excitiden hem silf togidere, and pursueden hem. And whanne thei hadden go awey fro the citee,
C'est pourquoi tout le peuple qui était dans la ville, fut assemblé à grand cri pour les poursuivre; et ils poursuivirent Josué; et ils furent [ainsi] attirés hors de la ville;
17 and sothely not oon hadde left in the citee of Hai and Bethauen, that `pursuede not Israel, and thei leften the citees opyn, as thei hadden broke out,
De sorte qu'il ne resta pas un seul homme dans Haï ni dans Béthel qui ne sortît après Israël; ils laissèrent la ville ouverte, et ils poursuivirent Israël.
18 the Lord seide to Josue, `Reise thou the scheeld which is in thin hond, ayens the citee of Hay; for Y schal yyue it to thee.
Alors l'Eternel dit à Josué: Etends l'étendard qui est en ta main, vers Haï; car je la livrerai entre tes mains, et Josué étendit vers la ville l'étendard qui était en sa main.
19 And whanne he hadde reisid the scheld ayens the citee, buyschementis, that weren hid, riseden anoon; and thei yeden to the citee, and token, and brenten it.
Et ceux qui étaient en embuscade se levèrent incontinent du lieu où ils étaient; ils commencèrent à courir aussitôt que [Josué] eut étendu sa main; ils vinrent dans la ville, la prirent, et ils se hâtèrent de mettre le feu dans la ville.
20 Forsothe the men of the citee, that pursueden Josue, bihelden, and siyen the smoke of the citee stie `til to heuene; and thei myyten no more fle hidur and thidur; most sithen thei that hadden feyned fliyt, and yeden to wildirnesse, withstoden stronglieste `ayens the pursueris.
Et les gens de Haï se tournant derrière eux, regardèrent; et voici, la fumée de la ville montait jusqu'au ciel: et il n'y eut en eux aucune force pour fuir: et le peuple qui fuyait vers le désert, se tourna contre ceux qui le poursuivaient.
21 And Josue siy, and al Israel, that the citee was takun, and the smoke of the citee stiede; and he turnede ayen, and smoot the men of Hay.
Et Josué et tout Israël voyant que ceux qui étaient en embuscade avaient pris la ville, et que la fumée de la ville montait, se retournèrent, et frappèrent les gens de Haï.
22 Sotheli also thei that hadden take and brent the citee, yeden out of the cytee ayens her men, and bigunnen to smyte the myddil men of enemyes; and whanne aduersaries weren slayn `on euer ethir part, so that no man of so greet multitude was sauyd,
Les autres aussi sortirent de la ville contr'eux; ainsi ils furent [enveloppés] par les Israélites, les uns deçà, et les autres delà; et ils furent tellement battus qu'on n'en laissa aucun qui demeurât en vie, ou qui échappât.
23 thei tokun also the kyng of Hay lyuynge, and brouyten to Josue.
Ils prirent aussi vif le Roi de Haï, et le présentèrent à Josué.
24 Therfor, whanne alle men weren slayn, that pursueden Israel goynge to deseert, and felden bi swerd in the same place, the sones of Israel turneden ayen, and smytiden the citee.
Et quand les Israélites eurent achevé de tuer tous les habitants de Haï sur les champs, au désert où ils les avaient poursuivis, et que tous furent tombés sous le tranchant de l'épée, jusqu'à être entièrement défaits, tous les Israélites se tournèrent vers Haï, et la frappèrent au tranchant de l'épée.
25 Forsothe thei that `felden doun in the same dai, fro man `til to womman, weren twelue thousynde of men, alle men of the citee of Hay.
Et tous ceux qui tombèrent ce jour-là, tant des hommes que des femmes, furent [au nombre de] douze mille, tous gens de Haï.
26 Sotheli Josue withdrow not the hond, which he hadde dressid an hiy holdynge `the scheld, til alle the dwelleris of Hay weren slayn.
Et Josué ne retira point sa main, laquelle il avait élevée en haut avec l'étendard, qu'on n'eut entièrement défait à la façon de l'interdit, tous les habitants de Haï.
27 Forsothe the sones of Israel departiden to hem silf the werk beestis, and the preye of the citee, as the Lord comaundide to Josue;
Seulement les Israélites pillèrent pour eux les bêtes et le butin de cette ville-là, suivant ce que l'Eternel avait commandé à Josué.
28 which brente the citee, and made it an euerlastynge biriel.
Josué donc brûla Haï, et la mit en un monceau perpétuel [de ruines], et en un désert, jusqu'à aujourd'hui.
29 And he hangide the king therof in a iebat, `til to the euentid and the goynge doun of the sunne. And Josue comaundide, and thei puttiden doun his deed bodi fro the cros; and thei `castiden forth him in thilke entryng of the citee, and gaderiden on hym a greet heep of stoonus, which heep dwellith `til in to present dai.
Puis il fit pendre le Roi de Haï à une potence, jusqu'au temps du soir: et comme le soleil se couchait, Josué fit commandement, qu'on descendît de la potence son corps mort, lequel on jeta à l'entrée de la porte de la ville, et on dressa sur lui un grand amas de pierres, [qui y est demeuré] jusqu'à aujourd'hui.
30 Thanne Josue bildide an auter to the Lord God of Israel in the hil of Hebal,
Alors Josué bâtit un autel à l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, sur la montagne de Hébal;
31 as Moises, the `seruaunt of the Lord, comaundide to the sones of Israel, and it is writun in the book of Moises lawe, an auter of stoonys vnpolischid, whiche yrun touchide not. And he offride theron brent sacrifice to the Lord, and he offride pesible sacrifices;
Comme Moïse serviteur de l'Eternel l'avait commandé aux enfants d'Israël, ainsi qu'il est écrit au Livre de la Loi de Moïse. Il fit cet autel de pierres entières sur lesquelles personne n'avait levé le fer; et ils offrirent dessus des holocaustes à l'Eternel, et sacrifièrent des sacrifices de prospérités.
32 and he wroot on the stoonys the Deutronomye of Moises lawe, `which he hadde declarid bifor the sones of Israel.
Il écrivit aussi là sur des pierres un double de la Loi de Moïse, laquelle [Moïse] avait mise par écrit devant les enfants d'Israël.
33 Sotheli al the puple, and the grettere men in birthe, and the duykis, and iugis stoden on `euer either side of the arke, in the siyt of preestis and dekenes, that baren the arke of boond of pees of the Lord; as a comeling, so and a man borun in the lond; the mydil part of hem stood bisidis the hil Garasym, and the myddil part stood bisidis the hil Hebal, as Moises, the `seruaunt of the Lord, comaundide. And first `sotheli he blesside the puple of Israel.
Et tout Israël, et ses anciens, et ses Officiers, et ses juges étaient au deçà et au delà de l'Arche, vis-à-vis des Sacrificateurs qui sont de la race de Lévi, portant l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel, tant les étrangers que les Hébreux naturels; une moitié étant contre la montagne de Guérizim, et l'autre moitié contre la montagne de Hébal, comme Moïse serviteur de l'Eternel l'avait commandé, pour bénir le peuple d'Israël la première fois.
34 Aftir these thingis he redde alle the wordis of blessyng and of cursyng, and alle thingis that weren writun in the book of lawe.
Et après cela il lut tout haut toutes les paroles de la Loi, tant les bénédictions que les malédictions, selon tout ce qui est écrit au Livre de la Loi.
35 He lefte no thing vntouchid of these thingis that Moises comaundide; but he declaride alle thingis bifor al the multitude of Israel, to wymmen, and litle children, and to comelyngis that dwelliden among hem.
Il n'y eut rien de tout ce que Moïse avait commandé, que Josué ne lût tout haut devant toute l'assemblée d'Israël, des femmes, et des petits enfants, et des étrangers conversant parmi eux.
