Joshua 6
1 Forsothe Jerico was closid and wardid, for the drede of the sones of Israel, and no man durste entre, ethir go out.
Or Jérico était close et fermée avec soin, à cause des enfants d'Israël; personne ne sortait et personne n'entrait.
2 And the Lord seide to Josue, Lo! Y yaf in to thin hondis Jerico, and the king therof, and alle strong men.
Et l'Éternel dit à Josué: Regarde, j'ai livré entre tes mains Jérico, et son roi, et ses vaillants guerriers.
3 Alle ye fiyteris, cumpasse the citee onys bi the day; so ye schulen do in sixe daies.
Vous tous donc, les hommes de guerre, faites le tour de la ville, en tournant une fois autour d'elle. Tu feras ainsi pendant six jours;
4 Forsothe in the seuenthe dai the preestis schulen take seuene clariouns, of whiche `the vss is in iubile; and thei schulen go bifor the arke of boond of pees; and seuen sithes ye schulen cumpasse the citee, and the preestis schulen trumpe with clariouns.
Et sept sacrificateurs porteront sept cors de bélier devant l'arche. Mais le septième jour vous ferez le tour de la ville sept fois, et les sacrificateurs sonneront des cors.
5 And whanne the vois of the trumpe schal sowne lengere, and more bi whiles, and schal sowne in youre eeris, al the puple schal crie togidere with gretteste cry; and the wallis of the citee schulen falle alle doun, and alle men schulen entre bi the place, ayens which thei stonden.
Et quand ils sonneront avec force de la corne de bélier, dès que vous entendrez le son du cor, tout le peuple jettera de grands cris; alors la muraille de la ville tombera sous elle-même, et le peuple montera, chacun devant soi.
6 Therfor Josue, the sone of Nun, clepide preestis, and seide to hem, Take ye the ark of boond of pees, and seuene othere preestis take seuene clariouns of iubile yeeris, and go thei bifor the arke of the Lord.
Josué, fils de Nun, appela donc les sacrificateurs, et leur dit: Portez l'arche de l'alliance, et que sept sacrificateurs portent sept cors de bélier devant l'arche de l'Éternel.
7 Also Josue seide to the puple, Go ye, and cumpasse ye the citee, and go ye armed bifor the arke of the Lord.
Il dit ensuite au peuple: Passez, et faites le tour de la ville, et que ceux qui sont armés passent devant l'arche de l'Éternel.
8 And whanne Josue hadde endid the wordis, and seuene preestis trumpiden with seuen clariouns bifor the arke of boond of pees of the Lord,
Et quand Josué eut parlé au peuple, les sept sacrificateurs qui portaient les sept cors de bélier devant l'Éternel, passèrent et sonnèrent des cors, et l'arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel les suivait.
9 and al the puple armed yede bifore, the tothir comyn puple of fiyteris suede the arke, and alle thingis sowneden with clariouns.
Les hommes armés marchaient devant les sacrificateurs qui sonnaient de leurs cors; mais l'arrière-garde suivait l'arche; en marchant on sonnait des cors.
10 Sotheli Josue comaundide to the puple, and seide, Ye schulen not crye, nethir youre vois schal be herd, nethir ony word schal go out of youre mouth, til the dai come, in which Y schal seie to you, Crye ye, and make ye noyse.
Or, Josué avait commandé au peuple, en disant: Vous ne pousserez point de cris, et vous ne ferez point entendre votre voix, et il ne sortira pas un mot de votre bouche, jusqu'au jour où je vous dirai: Poussez des cris! Alors vous pousserez des cris.
11 Therfor the arke of the Lord cumpasside the citee onys bi day, and turnede ayen in to the castels, and dwellide there.
Il fit donc faire le tour de la ville à l'arche de l'Éternel, en tournant une fois autour; puis ils vinrent au camp, et y passèrent la nuit.
12 Therfor while Josue roos bi nyyt, preestis tooken the arke of the Lord;
Et Josué se leva de bon matin, et les sacrificateurs portèrent l'arche de l'Éternel.
13 and seuene of the preestis token seuen clariouns, of whiche `the vss is in iubilee, and yeden bifor the arke of the Lord, `and yeden, and trumpiden; and the puple yede armed bifor hem. Sotheli the tother comyn puple suede the arke, and sownede with clariouns.
Or, les sept sacrificateurs qui portaient les sept cors de bélier devant l'arche de l'Éternel, marchaient et sonnaient des cors en marchant. Les hommes armés marchaient devant eux; et l'arrière-garde suivait l'arche de l'Éternel; en marchant on sonnait des cors.
14 And thei cumpassiden the citee in the secunde dai onys, and turneden ayen in to the castels; so thei dyden in sixe daies.
Et ils firent une fois le tour de la ville, le second jour, puis ils retournèrent au camp. Ils firent ainsi pendant six jours.
15 Sotheli in the seuenthe dai thei risiden eerli, and cumpassiden the citee, as it was disposid, seuen sithis.
Mais le septième jour, ils se levèrent de bon matin, au lever de l'aurore, et ils firent sept fois le tour de la ville, de la même manière; ce jour-là seulement ils firent le tour de la ville sept fois.
16 And whanne in the seuenthe cumpas preestis sowneden with clariouns, Josue seide to al Israel, Crie ye, for the Lord hath bitake the citee to vs;
Et la septième fois, comme les sacrificateurs sonnèrent des cors, Josué dit au peuple: Poussez des cris, car l'Éternel vous a livré la ville.
17 and this citee be cursid, ethir distried, and alle thingis that ben therynne be halewid to the Lord. Raab the hoor aloone lyue, with alle men that ben with hir in the hows; for sche hidde the messangeris whiche we senten.
La ville sera vouée à l'Éternel par interdit, elle et tout ce qu'elle contient; Rahab la courtisane vivra, elle seule et tous ceux qui seront avec elle dans la maison, parce qu'elle a caché les messagers que nous avions envoyés.
18 Forsothe be ye war, lest ye touchen ony thing of these that ben comaundid to you, and ye ben gilti of trespassyng; and alle the castels of Israel be vndur synne, and be troblid.
Seulement, gardez-vous de l'interdit, de peur que, après avoir dévoué la ville, vous ne preniez de l'interdit, que vous ne mettiez le camp d'Israël en interdit, et que vous n'y jetiez le trouble.
19 Sotheli what euer thing is of gold, and of siluer, and of brasun vessels, and of yrun, be halewid to the Lord, and be kept in hise tresoris.
Tout l'argent et tout l'or, et tout objet d'airain et de fer, seront consacrés à l'Éternel; ils entreront au trésor de l'Éternel.
20 Therfor while al the puple criede, and the trumpis sowneden, aftir that the sowne sownede in the eeris of the multitude, the walles felden doun anoon; and ech man stiede bi the place that was ayens hym. And thei token the citee,
Le peuple poussa donc des cris, et l'on sonna des cors. Dès que le peuple entendit le son des cors, il jeta de grands cris, et la muraille s'écroula; et le peuple monta dans la ville, chacun devant soi, et ils prirent la ville.
21 and killiden alle thingis that weren therynne, fro man `til to womman, fro yong child `til to eld man; also thei smytiden bi the scharpnesse of swerd, oxun, and scheep, and assis.
Et ils dévouèrent par interdit, au fil de l'épée, tout ce qui était dans la ville, depuis l'homme jusqu'à la femme, depuis l'enfant jusqu'au vieillard, et jusqu'au bœuf, à la brebis et à l'âne.
22 Forsothe Josue seide to twei men, that weren sent aspieris, Entre ye in to the hows of the womman hoore, and brynge ye forth hir, and alle thingis that ben herne, as ye maden stedfast to hir bi an ooth.
Mais Josué dit aux deux hommes qui avaient exploré le pays: Entrez dans la maison de la courtisane, et faites-en sortir cette femme et tout ce qui lui appartient, comme vous le lui avez juré.
23 And the yonge men entriden, and ledden out Raab, and her fadir, and modir, and britheren, and al the purtenaunce of houshold, and the kynrede `of hir; and maden to dwelle without the castels of Israel.
Les jeunes hommes qui avaient exploré le pays entrèrent donc et firent sortir Rahab, son père, sa mère, ses frères et tout ce qui était à elle; ils firent sortir aussi toutes les familles de sa parenté, et ils les mirent hors du camp d'Israël.
24 Sotheli thei brenten the citee, and alle thingis that weren foundun therynne, without gold, and siluer, and brasun vesselis, and yrun, which thei halewiden in to the `treserie of the Lord.
Puis ils brûlèrent la ville et tout ce qu'elle contenait; seulement ils mirent l'argent, l'or, et les objets d'airain et de fer, au trésor de la maison de l'Éternel.
25 Sotheli Josue made Raab the hoore to lyue, and `the hows of hir fadir, and alle thingis that sche hadde; and thei dwelliden in the myddis of Israel, `til in to present dai; for sche hidde the messangeris, whiche he sente to asspie Jerico. In that tyme Josue preiede hertli,
Josué laissa donc la vie à Rahab la courtisane, et à la maison de son père, et à tous ceux qui lui appartenaient; et elle a habité au milieu d'Israël jusqu'à ce jour, parce qu'elle avait caché les messagers que Josué avait envoyés pour explorer Jérico.
26 and seide, Cursid bifor the Lord be the man, that reisith and bildith the citee of Jerico! Leie he the foundementis therof in his firste gendrid sone, and putte he the yatis therof in the laste of fre children.
En ce temps-là, Josué jura, en disant: Maudit soit devant l'Éternel, l'homme qui se lèvera et rebâtira cette ville de Jérico! Il la fondera au prix de son premier-né, et il en mettra les portes au prix de son plus jeune fils!
27 Therfor the Lord was with Josue, and his name was pupplischid in ech lond.
Et l'Éternel fut avec Josué, et sa réputation se répandit par tout le pays.
