Joshua 5
1 Therfor aftir that alle kyngis of Ammorreys herden, that dwelliden ouer Jordan at the west coost, and alle the kyngis of Canaan, that weldiden nyy places of the greet see, that the Lord hadden dried the flowyngis of Jordan bifor the sones of Israel, til thei passiden, the herte of hem was failid, and spirit dwellide not in hem, dredynge the entring of the sones of Israel.
Or, dès que tous les rois des Amoréens qui étaient au delà du Jourdain, vers l'Occident, et tous les rois des Cananéens qui étaient près de la mer, apprirent que l'Éternel avait mis à sec les eaux du Jourdain devant les enfants d'Israël jusqu'à ce qu'ils fussent passés, leur cœur se fondit, et il n'y eut plus de courage en eux devant les enfants d'Israël.
2 In that tyme the Lord seide to Josue, Make to thee knyues of stoon, and circumside thou the sones of Israel, in the secunde tyme.
En ce temps-là, l'Éternel dit à Josué: Fais-toi des couteaux de pierre, et circoncis de nouveau, pour la seconde fois, les enfants d'Israël.
3 Josue dide tho thingis whiche the Lord comaundide, and he circumside the sones of Israel in the `hil of prepucies.
Josué se fit donc des couteaux de pierre et circoncit les enfants d'Israël, au coteau d'Araloth.
4 Sotheli this is the cause of the secunde circumcisioun; al the puple of male kynde, that yede out of Egipt, alle men fiyteris, weren deed in deseert bi the lengeste cumpassis of weie,
Or voici la raison pour laquelle Josué les circoncit: Tout le peuple sorti d'Égypte, les mâles, tous les gens de guerre étaient morts au désert, en chemin, après être sortis d'Égypte.
5 whiche alle weren circumsidid. Sotheli the puple
Car tout le peuple qui sortit, était circoncis; mais on n'avait circoncis aucun de ceux qui étaient nés au désert, en chemin, après être sortis d'Égypte.
6 that was borun in deseert bi fourti yeer, in the weie of broddeste wildirnesse, was vncircumsidid til thei weren waastid, that herden not the `vois of the Lord, and to whiche he swoor bifore, that he schulde schewe to hem the lond flowynge with mylk and hony.
Car les enfants d'Israël avaient marché dans le désert pendant quarante ans, jusqu'à ce que toute la nation des gens de guerre, qui étaient sortis d'Égypte et qui n'avaient point obéi à la voix de l'Éternel, eût été consumée; parce que l'Éternel leur avait juré qu'il ne leur laisserait point voir le pays que l'Éternel avait fait serment à leurs pères de nous donner, pays où coulent le lait et le miel;
7 The sones of hem camen aftirward in to the place of fadris, and thei weren circumsidid of Josue; whiche, as thei weren borun, weren in prepucie, nether ony man hadde circumsidid hem in the weie.
Et il avait suscité leurs enfants à leur place. Ce sont eux que Josué circoncit, parce qu'ils étaient incirconcis; car on ne les avait pas circoncis en chemin.
8 Forsothe aftir that alle weren circumsidid, thei dwelliden in the same place of tentis, til thei weren heelid.
Et lorsqu'on eut achevé de circoncire tout le peuple, ils restèrent à leur place dans le camp, jusqu'à ce qu'ils fussent guéris.
9 And the Lord seide to Josue, To dai Y haue take awei fro you the schenschip of Egipt. And the name of that place was clepid Galgala, `til in to present dai.
L'Éternel dit alors à Josué: Aujourd'hui j'ai roulé de dessus vous l'opprobre de l'Égypte. Et on nomma ce lieu Guilgal (ce qui roule), jusqu'à ce jour.
10 And the sones of Israel dwelliden in Galgalis, and maden pask in the fourtenthe dai of the monethe at euentide, in the feeldi places of Jerico;
Et les enfants d'Israël campèrent à Guilgal, et ils célébrèrent la Pâque le quatorzième jour du mois, sur le soir, dans les campagnes de Jérico.
11 and `thei eten of the fruytis of the lond `in the tothir day, therf looues, and potage of the same yeer, `ether cornys seengid and frotid in the hond.
Et ils mangèrent du blé du pays, le lendemain de la Pâque, des pains sans levain et du grain rôti en ce même jour.
12 And manna failide aftir that thei eten of the fruytis of the lond; and the sones of Israel vsiden no more that mete, but thei eten of the fruytis of present yeer of the lond of Canaan.
Et la manne cessa le lendemain, quand ils mangèrent du blé du pays; et les enfants d'Israël n'eurent plus de manne, mais ils mangèrent, cette année-là, des produits de la terre de Canaan.
13 Sothely whanne Josue was in the feeld of the cite of Jerico, he reiside the iyen, and siy a man stondynge ayens hym, and holdynge a drawun swerd; and Josue yede out to hym, and seide, Art thou oure, ethir `of aduersaries?
Or, il arriva, comme Josué était près de Jérico, qu'il leva les yeux et regarda, et voici, un homme se tenait debout, vis-à-vis de lui, son épée nue à la main. Et Josué alla vers lui, et lui dit: Es-tu des nôtres, ou de nos ennemis?
14 To whom he answeride, Nay, but Y am prince of the `hoost of the Lord, and now Y come. Josue felde lowe to erthe, and worschipide, and seide, What spekith my Lord to his seruaunt?
Et il répondit: Non, mais je suis le chef de l'armée de l'Éternel; j'arrive maintenant. Et Josué tomba la face contre terre, se prosterna, et lui dit: Qu'est-ce que mon Seigneur dit à son serviteur?
15 He seide, Vnlace thi schoo fro thi feet, for the place, in which thou stondist, is hooli. And Josue dide, as it was comaundid to hym.
Et le chef de l'armée de l'Éternel dit à Josué: Ote tes souliers de tes pieds; car le lieu où tu te tiens est saint. Et Josué fit ainsi.
