Joshua 3
1 Therfor Josue roos bi nyyt, and mouede tentis; and thei yeden out of Sechym, and camen to Jordan, he and alle the sones of Israel, and dwelliden there thre daies.
Et Josué fut debout de grand matin, et il leva le camp de Sétim. Ils marchèrent jusqu'au Jourdain; et là ils firent halte avant de le traverser.
2 And whanne tho daies weren passid, crieris yeden thorouy the myddis of tentis,
Après trois jours, les scribes parcoururent le camp.
3 and bigunnen to crie, Whanne ye seen the arke of boond of pees of youre Lord God, and the preestis of the generacioun of Leuy berynge it, also rise ye, and sue the biforgoeris;
Ils donnèrent au peuple les ordres de Josué, et dirent: Lorsque vous verrez l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur notre Dieu, et nos prêtres et nos lévites la portant, quittez chacun votre poste et marchez à sa suite.
4 and a space of twey thousynde cubitis be bitwixe you and the arke, that ye moun se fer, and knowe bi what weie ye schulen entre, for ye `yeden not bifore bi it; and be ye war, that ye neiye not to the arke.
Mais laissez un grand intervalle entre vous et elle, tenez-vous à une distance de deux mille coudées; gardez-vous d'en approcher, afin que vous sachiez la voie que vous devez suivre, car vous n'avez jamais fait semblable chemin.
5 And Josue seide to the puple, Be ye halewid, for to morew the Lord schal make merueilis among you.
Et Josué dit au peuple: Sanctifiez-vous pour demain, car demain le Seigneur fera au milieu de vous des merveilles.
6 And Josue seide to the preestis, Take ye the arke of the boond of pees `of the Lord, and go ye bifor the puple. Whiche filliden the heestis, and tooken the arke, and yeden bifor hem.
Et Josué dit aux prêtres: Enlevez l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur et marchez devant le peuple. Les prêtres enlevèrent donc l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur, et ils marchèrent devant le peuple.
7 And the Lord seide to Josue, To dai Y schal bigynne to enhaunse thee bifor al Israel, that thei wite, that as Y was with Moises, so Y am also with thee.
Et le Seigneur dit à Josué: C'est aujourd'hui que je commence à te rehausser aux yeux de tous les fils d'Israël, afin qu'ils sachent que de même que j'étais avec Moïse, je serai avec toi.
8 Forsothe comaunde thou to preestis, that beren the arke of bond of pees, and seie thou to hem, Whanne ye han entrid in to a part of the watir of Jordan, stonde ye therynne.
Et maintenant, donne mes ordres aux prêtres qui portent l'arche de l'alliance; dis-leur: Lorsque vous serez entrés dans les eaux du Jourdain, arrêtez-vous.
9 And Josue seide to the sones of Israel, Neiye ye hidur, and here ye the word of youre Lord God.
Et Josué dit aux fils d'Israël: Venez ici, écoutez les paroles du Seigneur votre Dieu.
10 And eft he seide, In this ye schulen wite that the Lord God lyuynge is in the myddis of you; and he schal distrye in youre siyt Cananey, Ethei, Euey, and Feresei, and Gergesei, and Jebusei, and Amorrei.
Vous reconnaîtrez en elles, et en leur accomplissement, que le Dieu vivant est parmi vous, et qu'il exterminera devant votre face le Chananéen, l'Hettéen, l'Hevéen, le Phérézéen, le Gergéséen, le Jébuséen et l'Amorrhéen.
11 Lo! the arke of boond of pees of the Lord of al erthe schal go bifor you thorouy Jordan.
Voilà que l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur de toute la terre va traverser le Jourdain.
12 Make ye redi twelue men of the twelue lynagis of Israel, bi ech lynage o man.
Choisissez douze hommes des fils d'Israël, un de chaque tribu.
13 And whanne the preestis, that beren the arke of boond of pees of the Lord God of al erthe, han set the steppis of her feet in the watris of Jordan, the watris that ben lowere schulen renne doun, and schulen faile; forsothe the watris that comen fro aboue schulen stonde togidere in o gobet.
Et ceci arrivera: Lorsque les pieds des prêtres portant l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur de toute la terre s'arrêteront dans l'eau du Jourdain, l'eau inférieure s'écoulera et les eaux supérieures s'arrêteront.
14 Therfor the puple yede out of her tabernaclis to passe Jordan; and the preestis that baren the arke of boond of pees yeden bifor the puple.
Et le peuple s'éloigna de ses tentes pour traverser le Jourdain; cependant, les prêtres transportèrent, en avant du peuple, l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur.
15 And whanne the preestis entriden in to Jordan, and her feet weren dippid in the part of watir; forsothe Jordan `hadde fillid the brynkis of his trow in the tyme of `ripe corn;
Mais, au moment où entraient dans le Jourdain les prêtres portant l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur, au moment où leurs pieds commencèrent à être baignés dans l'eau du fleuve du Jourdain, coulant à pleins bords, puisque c'était le temps de la moisson des froments,
16 the watris yeden doun, and stoden in o place, and wexiden grete at the licnesse of an hil, and apperiden fer fro the citee that was clepid Edom, `til to the place of Sarthan; sotheli the watris that weren lowere yeden doun in to the see of wildirnesse, which is now clepid the deed see, `til the watris failiden outirli.
Les eaux supérieures s'arrêtèrent; elles s'arrêtèrent formant une masse compacte et immense, qui s'étendit bien loin, bien loin, jusqu'à Cariathiarim. L'eau qui descendait, s'écoula dans la mer d'Araba ou la mer de Sel, jusqu'à ce qu'il n'en restât plus, et le peuple s'arrêta devant Jéricho.
17 Forsothe the puple yede thorouy Jordan; and the preestis, that baren the arke of the boond of pees of the Lord, stoden gird on the drie erthe in the myddis of Jordan, and al the puple passide thorouy the drie trow.
Et, pendant que tous les fils d'Israël traversaient à pied sec, les prêtres, qui portaient l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur, se tinrent immobiles et à pied sec au milieu du fleuve, jusqu'à ce que tout le peuple en eut achevé le passage.
