John 16

1 These thingis Y haue spokun to you, that ye be not sclaundrid.

“Yo les he dicho esto para que no abandonen su confianza en mí.

2 Thei schulen make you with outen the synagogis, but the our cometh, that ech man that sleeth you, deme that he doith seruyce to God.

Ellos los expulsarán de las sinagogas—de hecho, viene el tiempo en que las personas que los maten, pensarán que están sirviendo a Dios.

3 And thei schulen do to you these thingis, for thei han not knowun the fadir, nether me.

Y harán esto porque nunca han conocido al Padre ni a mí. Les he dicho esto para que cuando estas cosas ocurran, recuerden lo que les dije.

4 But these thingis Y spak to you, that whanne the our `of hem schal come, ye haue mynde, that Y seide to you.

Yo no necesitaba decirles esto al comienzo porque yo iba a estar con ustedes.

5 Y seide not to you these thingis fro the bigynnyng, for Y was with you. And now Y go to hym that sente me, and no man of you axith me, Whidur `thou goist?

Pero ahora voy al que me envió, aunque ninguno de ustedes me está preguntando a dónde voy.

6 but for Y haue spokun to you these thingis, heuynesse hath fulfillid youre herte.

Por supuesto, ahora que les he dicho, están acongojados.

7 But Y seie to you treuthe, it spedith to you, that Y go; for if Y go not forth, the coumfortour schal not come to you; but if Y go forth, Y schal sende hym to you.

“Pero les digo la verdad: es mejor para ustedes que yo me vaya, porque si no me voy, el Consolador no vendría a ustedes. Si yo me voy, lo enviaré a ustedes.

8 And whanne he cometh, he schal repreue the world of synne, and of riytwisnesse, and of doom.

Y cuando él venga, convencerá a los que están en el mundo de que tienen ideas equivocadas sobre el pecado, sobre lo que es correcto y sobre el juicio.

9 Of synne, for thei han not bileued in me;

Sobre el pecado, porque no creen en mí.

10 and of riytwisnesse, for Y go to the fadir, and now ye schulen not se me;

Sobre lo que es correcto, porque yo voy al Padre y ustedes no me verán por más tiempo.

11 but of doom, for the prince of this world is now demed.

Sobre el juicio, porque el gobernante de este mundo ha sido condenado.

12 Yit Y haue many thingis for to seie to you, but ye moun not bere hem now.

“Hay muchas cosas más que quiero explicarles, pero no podrían entenderlas ahora.

13 But whanne thilke spirit of treuthe cometh, he schal teche you al trewthe; for he schal not speke of hym silf, but what euer thinges he schal here, he schal speke; and he schal telle to you tho thingis that ben to come.

Sin embargo, cuando el Espíritu de verdad venga, él les enseñará toda la verdad. Él no habla por su propia cuenta, sino que solo dice lo que escucha, y les dirá lo que va a suceder.

14 He schal clarifie me, for of myne he schal take, and schal telle to you.

Él me trae gloria porque él les enseña todo lo que recibe de mí.

15 Alle thingis `whiche euer the fadir hath, ben myne; therfor Y seide to you, for of myne he schal take, and schal telle to you.

Todo lo que pertenece al Padre es mío. Es por esto que les dije que el Espíritu les enseñará a ustedes lo que reciba de mí.

16 A litil, and thanne ye schulen not se me; and eftsoone a litil, and ye schulen se me, for Y go to the fadir.

Dentro de poco ustedes no me verán más, pero dentro de poco me verán otra vez”.

17 Therfor summe of hise disciplis seiden togidere, What is this thing that he seith to vs, A litil, and ye schulen not se me; and eftsoone a litil, and ye schulen se me, for Y go to the fadir?

Algunos de sus discípulos se decían unos a otros: “¿Qué quiere decir cuando dice ‘dentro de poco no me verán más, pero dentro de poco me verán otra vez’? ¿Y cuando dice ‘porque voy al Padre’?”

18 Therfor thei seiden, What is this that he seith to vs, A litil? we witen not what he spekith.

Ellos se preguntaban “¿Qué quiere decir cuando dice ‘dentro de poco’? No sabemos de qué está hablando”.

19 And Jhesus knew, that thei wolden axe hym, and he seide to hem, Of this thing ye seken among you, for Y seide, A litil, and ye schulen not se me; and eftsoone a litil, and ye schulen se me.

Jesús se dio cuenta de que ellos querían preguntarle acerca de esto. Así que les preguntó: “¿Están inquietos por que dije ‘dentro de poco no me verán más, pero dentro de poco otra vez me verán’?

20 Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, that ye schulen mourne and wepe, but the world schal haue ioye; and ye schulen be soreuful, but youre sorewe schal turne in to ioye.

Les digo la verdad, y es que ustedes van a llorar y lamentarse, pero el mundo se alegrará. Ustedes estarán afligidos, pero su aflicción se convertirá en alegría.

21 A womman whanne sche berith child, hath heuynesse, for hir tyme is comun; but whanne sche hath borun a sone, now sche thenkith not on the peyne, for ioye, for a man is borun in to the world.

Una mujer que está en proceso de parto sufre de dolores porque ha llegado el momento, pero cuando el bebé nace, ella olvida la agonía por la alegría de que ha llegado un niño al mundo.

22 And therfor ye han now sorew, but eftsoone Y schal se you, and youre herte schal haue ioie, and no man schal take fro you youre ioie.

Sí, ustedes se lamentan ahora, pero yo los veré otra vez; y ustedes se alegrarán y nadie les podrá arrebatar su alegría.

23 And in that day ye schulen not axe me ony thing; treuli, treuli, `Y seie to you, if ye axen the fadir ony thing in my name, he schal yyue to you.

“Cuando llegue el momento, no tendrán necesidad de preguntarme nada. Les digo la verdad, el Padre les dará cualquier cosa que pidan en mi nombre.

24 `Til now ye axiden no thing in my name; `axe ye, `and ye schulen take, that youre ioie be ful.

Hasta ahora ustedes no han pedido nada en mi nombre, así que pidan y recibirán, y su alegría estará completa.

25 Y haue spokun to you these thingis in prouerbis; the our cometh, whanne now Y schal not speke to you in prouerbis, but opynli of my fadir Y schal telle to you.

He estado hablándoles mediante un lenguaje figurado. Pero dentro de poco dejaré de usar el lenguaje figurado cuando hable con ustedes. En lugar de ello, voy a mostrarles al Padre claramente.

26 In that dai ye schulen axe in my name; and Y seie not to you, that Y schal preye the fadir of you;

“En ese momento, pedirán en mi nombre. No les estoy diciendo que yo rogaré al Padre en favor de ustedes,

27 for the fadir hym silf loueth you, for ye han loued me, and han bileued, that Y wente out fro God.

porque el Padre mismo los ama—porque ustedes me aman y creen que vine de parte de Dios.

28 Y wente out fro the fadir, and Y cam in to the world; eftsoone Y leeue the world, and Y go to the fadir.

Yo dejé al Padre y vine al mundo; ahora dejo el mundo y regreso a mi Padre”.

29 Hise disciplis seiden to hym, Lo! now thou spekist opynli, and thou seist no prouerbe.

Entonces los discípulos dijeron: “Ahora estás hablándonos claramente y no estás usando lenguaje figurado.

30 Now we witen, that thou wost alle thingis; and it is not nede to thee, that ony man axe thee. In this thing we bileuen, that thou wentist out fro God.

Ahora estamos seguros de que lo sabes todo, y que para conocer las preguntas que tiene la gente, no necesitas preguntarles. Esto nos convence de que viniste de Dios”.

31 Jhesus answeride to hem, Now ye bileuen.

“¿Están realmente convencidos ahora?” preguntó Jesús.

32 Lo! the our cometh, and now it cometh, that ye be disparplid, ech in to hise owne thingis, and that ye leeue me aloone; and Y am not aloone, for the fadir is with me.

“Se acerca el momento—de hecho está a punto de ocurrir—cuando ustedes se separarán; cada uno de ustedes irá a su propia casa, dejándome solo. Pero yo no estoy realmente solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.

33 These thingis Y haue spokun to you, that ye haue pees in me; in the world ye schulen haue disese, but trust ye, Y haue ouercomun the world.

Les he dicho todo esto a fin de que tengan paz porque ustedes son uno conmigo. Ustedes sufrirán en este mundo, pero sean valientes— ¡Yo he derrotado al mundo!”
