Job 35

1 Therfor Helyu spak eft these thingis, Whethir thi thouyt semeth euene,

Elihu poursuivit encore son discours, et dit:

2 `ether riytful, to thee, that thou schuldist seie, Y am riytfulere than God?

As-tu pensé rendre ta cause bonne, [quand] tu as dit: Ma justice [est] au-dessus de celle du [Dieu] Fort?

3 For thou seidist, That, that is good, plesith not thee; ethir what profitith it to thee, if Y do synne?

Si tu demandes de quoi elle te profitera, [disant]: Que m'en reviendra-t-il, de même que de mon péché?

4 Therfor Y schal answere to thi wordis, and to thi frendis with thee.

Je te répondrai en ces termes, et à tes amis qui sont avec toi.

5 Se thou, and biholde heuene, and biholde thou the eir, that God is hiyere than thou.

Regarde les cieux, et les contemple; vois les nuées, elles sont plus hautes que toi.

6 If thou synnest `ayens hym, what schalt thou anoye hym? and if thi wickidnessis ben multiplied, what schalt thou do ayens hym?

Si tu pèches, quel mal fais-tu à Dieu? et quand tes péchés se multiplieront, quel mal en recevra-t-il?

7 Certis if thou doist iustli, what schalt thou yyue to hym; ether what schal he take of thin hond?

Si tu es juste, que lui donnes-tu? et qu'est-ce qu'il reçoit de ta main?

8 Thi wickidnesse schal anoie a man, which is lijk thee; and thi riytfulnesse schal helpe the sone of a man.

C'est à un homme, comme tu es, que ta méchanceté [peut nuire]; et c'est au fils d'un homme que ta justice [peut être utile].

9 Thei schulen cry for the multitude of fals chalengeris, and thei schulen weile for the violence of the arm of tirauntis.

On fait crier les opprimés par la grandeur [des maux qu'on leur fait]; ils crient à cause de la violence des grands.

10 And Joob seide not, Where is God, that made me, and that yaf songis in the nyyt?

Et on ne dit point: où est le Dieu qui m'a fait, [et] qui donne de quoi chanter pendant la nuit;

11 Which God techith vs aboue the beestis of erthe, and he schal teche vs aboue the briddis of heuene.

Qui nous rend plus éclairés que les animaux de la terre, et plus intelligents que les oiseaux des cieux?

12 There thei schulen crye, and God schal not here, for the pride of yuele men.

On crie donc à cause de la fierté des méchants; mais Dieu ne les exauce point.

13 For God schal not here with out cause, and Almyyti God schal biholde the causis of ech man.

Cependant [tu ne dois pas dire] que ce soit en vain; que le [Dieu] Fort n'écoute point, et que le Tout-puissant n'y a nul égard.

14 Yhe, whanne thou seist, He biholdith not; be thou demed bifor hym, and abide thou hym.

Encore moins lui dois-tu dire; tu ne le vois point; car le jugement est devant lui; attends-le donc.

15 For now he bryngith not in his strong veniaunce, nether vengith `greetli felonye.

Mais maintenant, ce n'est rien ce que sa colère exécute, et il n'est point entré fort avant en connaissance de toutes les choses que tu as faites.

16 Therfor Joob openith his mouth in veyn, and multiplieth wordis with out kunnyng.

Job donc a ouvert sans raison sa bouche [pour se plaindre], et il a entassé paroles sur paroles, sans connaissance.
