Job 33
1 Therfor, Joob, here thou my spechis, and herkene alle my wordis.
C'est pourquoi, Job, écoute, je te prie, mon discours, et prête l'oreille à toutes mes paroles.
2 Lo! Y haue openyd my mouth, my tunge schal speke in my chekis.
Voici maintenant, j'ouvre ma bouche, ma langue parle dans mon palais.
3 Of symple herte ben my wordis, and my lippis schulen speke clene sentence.
Mes paroles [répondront à la] droiture de mon cœur, et mes lèvres prononceront une doctrine pure.
4 The spirit of God made me, and the brething of Almyyti God quykenyde me.
L'esprit du [Dieu] Fort m'a fait, et le souffle du Tout-puissant m'a donné la vie.
5 If thou maist, answere thou to me, and stoonde thou ayens my face.
Si tu peux, réponds-moi, dresse-toi contre moi, demeure ferme.
6 Lo! God made me as and thee; and also Y am formyd of the same cley.
Voici, je suis pour le [Dieu] Fort; selon que tu en as parlé; j'ai aussi été formé de la terre [tout comme toi].
7 Netheles my myracle make thee not afeerd, and myn eloquence be not greuouse to thee.
Voici, ma frayeur ne te troublera point, et ma main ne s'appesantira point sur toi.
8 Therfor thou seidist in myn eeris, and Y herde the vois of thi wordis;
Quoi qu'il en soit, tu as dit, moi l'entendant, et j'ai ouï la voix de tes discours, [disant]:
9 Y am cleene, and with out gilt, and vnwemmed, and wickidnesse is not in me.
Je suis pur, [et] sans péché; je suis net, et il n'y a point d'iniquité en moi.
10 `For God foond querels in me, therfor he demyde me enemy to hym silf.
Voici, il a cherché à rompre avec moi, il me tient pour son ennemi.
11 He hath set my feet in a stok; he kepte alle my pathis.
Il a mis mes pieds aux ceps, il épie tous mes chemins.
12 Therfor this thing it is, in which thou art not maad iust; Y schal answere to thee, that God is more than man.
Voici, je te réponds qu'en cela tu n'as pas été juste; car Dieu sera toujours plus grand que l'homme [mortel].
13 Thou stryuest ayenus God, that not at alle wordis he answeride to thee.
Pourquoi donc as-tu plaidé contre lui? car il ne rend pas compte de toutes ses actions.
14 God spekith onys, and the secounde tyme he rehersith not the same thing.
Bien que le [Dieu] Fort parle une première fois, et une seconde fois à celui qui n'aura pas pris garde à la première;
15 God spekith bi a dreem in the visioun of nyyt, whanne sleep fallith on men, and thei slepen in the bed.
Par des songes, par des visions de nuit, quand un profond sommeil tombe sur les hommes, et lorsqu'ils dorment dans leur lit;
16 Thanne he openith the eeris of men, and he techith hem, `and techith prudence;
Alors il ouvre l'oreille aux hommes, et scelle leur châtiment.
17 that he turne awei a man fro these thingis whiche he made, and delyuere hym fro pride; delyuerynge his soule fro corrupcioun,
Afin de détourner l'homme d'une [mauvaise] action, et de rabaisser la fierté de l'homme.
18 and his lijf, that it go not in to swerd.
[Ainsi] il garantit son âme de la fosse, et sa vie, de l'épée.
19 Also God blameth a synnere bi sorewe in the bed, and makith alle the boonys of hym `to fade.
L'homme est aussi châtié par des douleurs dans son lit, et tous ses os [sont brisés].
20 Breed is maad abhomynable to hym in his lijf, and mete desirable `bifor to his soule.
Alors sa vie lui fait avoir en horreur le pain, et son âme la viande désirable.
21 His fleisch schal faile for rot, and hise boonys, that weren hilid, schulen be maad nakid.
Sa chair est tellement consumée qu'elle ne paraît plus; et ses os sont tellement brisés, qu'on n'y connaît plus rien.
22 His soule schal neiye to corrupcioun, and his lijf to thingis `bryngynge deeth.
Son âme approche de la fosse, et sa vie, des choses qui font mourir.
23 If an aungel, oon of a thousynde, is spekynge for hym, that he telle the equyte of man, God schal haue mercy on hym,
Que s'il y a pour cet homme-là un messager, qui parle pour lui, (un d'entre mille) qui manifeste à cet homme son devoir,
24 and schal seie, Delyuere thou hym, that he go not doun in to corrupcioun; Y haue founde in what thing Y schal do merci to hym.
Alors il aura pitié de lui, et il dira: Garantis-le, afin qu'il ne descende pas dans la fosse; j'ai trouvé la propitiation.
25 His fleisch is wastid of turmentis; turne he ayen to the daies of his yonge wexynge age.
Sa chair deviendra plus délicate qu'elle n'était dans son enfance, et il sera rajeuni.
26 He schal biseche God, and he schal be quemeful to hym; and he schal se his face in hertly ioye, and he schal yelde to man his riytfulnesse.
Il fléchira Dieu par ses prières, et Dieu s'apaisera envers lui, et lui fera voir sa face avec joie, et lui rendra sa justice.
27 He schal biholde men, and he schal seie, Y haue synned, and verili Y haue trespassid; and Y haue not resseyued, as Y was worthi.
Il regardera vers les hommes, et dira: J'avais péché, j'avais renversé le droit, et cela ne m'avait point profité.
28 For he delyueride his soule, that it schulde not go in to perischyng, but that he lyuynge schulde se liyt.
[Mais Dieu] a garanti mon âme, afin qu'elle ne passât point par la fosse, et ma vie voit la lumière.
29 Lo! God worchith alle these thingis in thre tymes bi alle men;
Voilà, le [Dieu] Fort fait toutes ces choses, deux [et] trois fois envers l'homme;
30 that he ayen clepe her soulis fro corrupcioun, and liytne in the liyt of lyuynge men.
Pour retirer son âme de la fosse, afin qu'elle soit éclairée de la lumière des vivants.
31 Thou, Joob, perseyue, and here me, and be thou stille, the while Y speke.
Sois attentif, Job, écoute-moi; tais-toi, et je parlerai.
32 Sotheli if thou hast what thou schalt speke, answere thou to me, speke thou; for Y wole, that thou appere iust.
Et si tu as de quoi parler, réponds-moi, parle; car je désire de te justifier.
33 That if thou hast not, here thou me; be thou stille, and Y schal teche thee wisdom.
Sinon, écoute-moi, tais-toi, et je t'enseignerai la sagesse.
