Job 3
1 Aftir these thingis Joob openyde his mouth,

4 Thilke dai be turnede in to derknessis; God seke not it aboue, and be it not in mynde, nethir be it liytned with liyt.
Să fie acea zi întuneric; Dumnezeu să nu îi dea atenție din înalt și să nu strălucească lumina peste ea.
5 Derknessis make it derk, and the schadewe of deeth and myist occupie it; and be it wlappid with bittirnesse.
Să o întineze întunericul și umbra morții; să locuiască un nor peste ea; să o înspăimânte întunecimea zilei.
6 Derk whirlwynde holde that niyt; be it not rikynyd among the daies of the yeer, nethir be it noumbrid among the monethes.
Cât despre acea noapte, întunericul să o apuce; să nu fie alăturată zilelor anului, să nu vină la numărul lunilor.
7 Thilke nyyt be soleyn, and not worthi of preisyng.
Iată, acea noapte să fie solitară, nicio voce de bucurie să nu intre în ea.
8 Curse thei it, that cursen the dai, that ben redi to reise Leuyathan.
Să o blesteme cei ce blestemă ziua, care sunt gata să își înalțe jelirea.

11 Whi was not Y deed in the wombe? whi yede Y out of the wombe, and perischide not anoon?

Sau ca o naștere ascunsă, nelatimp, nu aș mai fi fost; ca prunci care nu au văzut niciodată lumina.
17 There wickid men ceessiden of noise, and there men maad wery of strengthe restiden.
Acolo cei stricați încetează a tulbura; și acolo cei obosiți au odihnă.
18 And sum tyme boundun togidere with out disese thei herden not the voys of the wrongful axere.
Acolo prizonierii se odihnesc împreună; nu aud vocea opresorului.
19 A litil man and greet man be there, and a seruaunt free fro his lord.
Cei mici și cei mari sunt acolo; și servitorul este liber de stăpânul lui.
20 Whi is liyt youun to the wretche, and lijf to hem that ben in bitternesse of soule?
Pentru ce se dă lumină celui în nefericire și viață celui amărât în suflet,
21 Whiche abiden deeth, and it cometh not;
Care tânjesc după moarte, dar ea nu vine; și sapă după ea mai mult decât după tezaure ascunse;
22 as men diggynge out tresour and ioien greetly, whanne thei han founde a sepulcre?
Care se bucură peste măsură și se veselesc când pot găsi mormântul?
23 Whi is liyt youun to a man, whos weie is hid, and God hath cumpassid hym with derknessis?
De ce se dă lumină unui om a cărui cale este ascunsă și pe care Dumnezeu l-a îngrădit?
24 Bifore that Y ete, Y siyhe; and as of watir flowynge, so is my roryng.
Căci suspinul meu vine înainte să mănânc și răcnetele mele sunt turnate ca apele.
25 For the drede, which Y dredde, cam to me; and that, that Y schamede, bifelde.
Pentru că lucrul de care m-am temut foarte mult a venit asupra mea și de ceea ce m-am temut m-a ajuns.
26 Whether Y dissymilide not? whether Y was not stille? whether Y restide not? and indignacioun cometh on me.
Nu am avut nici siguranță, nici odihnă, nici tăcere; totuși tulburarea a venit asupra mea.
