Job 2
1 Forsothe it was doon, whanne in sum dai the sones of God `weren comun, and stoden bifor the Lord, and Sathan `was comun among hem, and stood in his siyt,
फिर एक दिन जब स्वर्गदूत याहवेह की उपस्थिति में एकत्र हुए, शैतान भी उनके मध्य में आया था, कि वह स्वयं को परमेश्वर के सामने प्रस्तुत करे.
2 that the Lord seide to Sathan, Fro whennus comest thou? Which answeride, and seide, Y haue cumpassid the erthe, `and Y haue go thury it.
याहवेह ने शैतान से प्रश्न किया, “तुम कहां से आ रहे हो?” शैतान ने याहवेह को उत्तर दिया, “पृथ्वी पर इधर-उधर घूमते-फिरते तथा इसकी चारों दिशाओं में डोलते-डालते आया हूं.”
3 And the Lord seide to Sathan, Whethir thou hast biholde my seruaunt Joob, that noon in erthe is lijk hym; he is a symple man, and riytful, and dredynge God, and goynge awei fro yuel, and yit holdynge innocence? `But thou hast moued me ayens him, that `Y schulde turmente hym in veyn.
याहवेह ने शैतान से प्रश्न किया, “क्या तुमने अय्योब, मेरे सेवक पर ध्यान दिया है? क्योंकि पृथ्वी पर कोई भी उसके तुल्य नहीं है. वह सीधा, ईमानदार, परमेश्वर के प्रति श्रद्धा युक्त तथा बुराई से दूर रहनेवाला व्यक्ति है. अब भी वह अपनी खराई पर अटल है, जबकि तुम्हीं हो जिसने उसे नष्ट करने के लिए मुझे अकारण ही उकसाया था.”
4 To whom Sathan answeride, and seide, `A man schal yyue skyn for skyn, and alle thingis that he hath for his lijf;
शैतान ने याहवेह को जवाब दिया, “खाल का विनिमय खाल से! अपने प्राणों की रक्षा में मनुष्य अपना सर्वस्व देने के लिए तैयार हो जाता है.
5 `ellis sende thin hond, and touche his boon and fleisch, and thanne thou schalt se, that he schal curse thee in the face.
अब आप उसकी हड्डी तथा मांस को स्पर्श कीजिए; तब वह आपके सामने आपकी निंदा करने लगेगा.”
6 Therfor the Lord seide to Sathan, Lo! he is in `thin hond; netheles kepe thou his lijf.
यह सुनकर याहवेह ने शैतान को उत्तर दिया, “सुनो, अब वह तुम्हारे अधिकार में है; बस इतना ध्यान रहे कि उसका जीवन सुरक्षित रहे.”
7 Therfor Sathan yede out fro the face of the Lord, and smoot Joob with `a ful wickid botche fro the sole of the foot `til to his top;
शैतान याहवेह की उपस्थिति से चला गया और जाकर अय्योब पर ऐसा प्रहार किया कि उनकी देह पर, तलवों से लेकर सिर तक, दुखदाई फोड़े निकल आए.
8 which Joob schauyde the quytere with a schelle, `and sat in the dunghil.
वह राख में जा बैठे और एक ठीकरे के टुकड़े से स्वयं को खुजलाने लगे.
9 Forsothe his wijf seide to hym, Dwellist thou yit in thi symplenesse? Curse thou God, and die.
यह सब देख उनकी पत्नी ने उनसे कहा, “क्या तुम अब भी अपनी खराई को ही थामे रहोगे? परमेश्वर की निंदा करो और मर जाओ!”
10 And Joob seide, Thou hast spoke as oon of the fonned wymmen; if we han take goodis of the hond of the Lord, whi forsothe suffren we not yuels? In alle these thingis Joob synnede not in hise lippis.
किंतु अय्योब ने उसे उत्तर दिया, “तुम तो मूर्ख स्त्रियों के समान बक-बक करने लगी हो. क्या हमारे लिए यह भला होगा कि परमेश्वर से सुख स्वीकार करते जाएं और दुःख कुछ भी नहीं?” इन सभी स्थितियों में अय्योब ने अपने मुख द्वारा कोई पाप नहीं किया.
11 Therfor thre frendis of Joob herden al the yuel, that hadde bifelde to hym, and camen ech man fro his place, Eliphath Temanytes, and Baldach Suythes, and Sophar Naamathites; for thei `hadden seide togidere to hem silf, that thei wolden come togidere, and visite hym, and coumforte.
जब अय्योब के तीन मित्रों को अय्योब की दुखद स्थिति का समाचार प्राप्त हुआ, तब तीनों ही अपने-अपने स्थानों से अय्योब के घर आ गए, तेमानी से एलिफाज़, शूही से बिलदद तथा नआमथ से ज़ोफर. इन तीनों ने योजना बनाई कि सहानुभूति एवं सांत्वना देने के लिए वे अय्योब से भेंट करेंगे.
12 And whanne thei hadden reisid afer `her iyen, thei knewen not hym; and thei crieden, and wepten, and to-renten her clothis, and spreynten dust on her heed `in to heuene.
जब वे दूर ही थे तथा उन्होंने अय्योब की ओर देखा, तो वे उन्हें पहचान ही न सके. वे उच्च स्वर में रोने लगे. हर एक ने अपने-अपने वस्त्रों को फाड़कर अपने-अपने ऊपर धूल डाल ली.
13 And thei saten with hym in the erthe seuene daies and seuene nyytis, and no man spak a word to hym; for thei sien, that his sorewe was greet.
तब वे जाकर अय्योब के निकट भूमि पर सात दिन एवं सात रात्रि चुप बैठे रहे, क्योंकि उनके सामने यह पूर्णतः स्पष्ट था कि अय्योब की पीड़ा अत्यंत भयानक थी.
