Job 2
1 Forsothe it was doon, whanne in sum dai the sones of God `weren comun, and stoden bifor the Lord, and Sathan `was comun among hem, and stood in his siyt,
Nun geschah es eines Tags, daß die Gottessöhne kamen, sich vor Jahwe zu stellen, und auch der Satan kam unter ihnen, sich vor Jahwe zu stellen.
2 that the Lord seide to Sathan, Fro whennus comest thou? Which answeride, and seide, Y haue cumpassid the erthe, `and Y haue go thury it.
Da fragte Jahwe den Satan: Woher kommst du? Der Satan antwortete Jahwe und sprach: Von einem Streifzug auf der Erde und vom Umherwandeln auf ihr!
3 And the Lord seide to Sathan, Whethir thou hast biholde my seruaunt Joob, that noon in erthe is lijk hym; he is a symple man, and riytful, and dredynge God, and goynge awei fro yuel, and yit holdynge innocence? `But thou hast moued me ayens him, that `Y schulde turmente hym in veyn.
Da sprach Jahwe zum Satan: hast du wohl acht gehabt auf meinen Knecht Hiob? Denn seinesgleichen giebt es niemand auf Erden, so unsträflich und rechtschaffen, gottesfürchtig und dem Bösen feind. Noch hält er fest an seiner Frömmigkeit, und du hast mich somit verleitet, ihn ohne Grund zu verderben!
4 To whom Sathan answeride, and seide, `A man schal yyue skyn for skyn, and alle thingis that he hath for his lijf;
Der Satan antwortete Jahwe und sprach: Haut um Haut! - und alles, was der Mensch hat, giebt er dahin für sein Leben!
5 `ellis sende thin hond, and touche his boon and fleisch, and thanne thou schalt se, that he schal curse thee in the face.
Aber recke nur einmal deine Hand aus und taste sein Gebein und Fleisch an, so wird er sich sicherlich offen von dir lossagen!
6 Therfor the Lord seide to Sathan, Lo! he is in `thin hond; netheles kepe thou his lijf.
Da sprach Jahwe zum Satan: Wohlan, er sei in deiner Gewalt, nur schone sein Leben!
7 Therfor Sathan yede out fro the face of the Lord, and smoot Joob with `a ful wickid botche fro the sole of the foot `til to his top;
Da ging der Satan von Jahwe hinweg und schlug Hiob mit bösartigem Geschwür von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel.
8 which Joob schauyde the quytere with a schelle, `and sat in the dunghil.
Und er nahm sich eine Scherbe, um sich damit zu kratzen, und saß dabei mitten in der Asche.
9 Forsothe his wijf seide to hym, Dwellist thou yit in thi symplenesse? Curse thou God, and die.
Da sprach sein Weib zu ihm: Hältst du noch fest an deiner Frömmigkeit? Sage dich los von Gott und stirb!
10 And Joob seide, Thou hast spoke as oon of the fonned wymmen; if we han take goodis of the hond of the Lord, whi forsothe suffren we not yuels? In alle these thingis Joob synnede not in hise lippis.
Er aber sprach zu ihr: Du redest, wie die erste beste Thörin redet. Das Gute nahmen wir von Gott an und sollten das Böse nicht auch annehmen? Bei alledem versündigte sich Hiob nicht mit seinen Lippen.
11 Therfor thre frendis of Joob herden al the yuel, that hadde bifelde to hym, and camen ech man fro his place, Eliphath Temanytes, and Baldach Suythes, and Sophar Naamathites; for thei `hadden seide togidere to hem silf, that thei wolden come togidere, and visite hym, and coumforte.
Als nun die drei Freunde Hiobs von all' diesem Unglück hörten, das ihn betroffen hatte, machten sie sich auf, ein jeder von seinem Wohnort: Eliphas von Theman, Bildad von Suah und Zophar von Naama, und verabredeten sich miteinander, hinzugehen, um ihm ihr Beileid zu bezeugen und ihn zu trösten.
12 And whanne thei hadden reisid afer `her iyen, thei knewen not hym; and thei crieden, and wepten, and to-renten her clothis, and spreynten dust on her heed `in to heuene.
Als sie nun in einiger Entfernung von ihm ihre Augen aufschlugen, erkannten sie ihn nicht wieder; da fingen sie laut zu weinen an, zerrissen ein jeder sein Gewand und warfen Staub gen Himmel auf ihre Häupter herab.
13 And thei saten with hym in the erthe seuene daies and seuene nyytis, and no man spak a word to hym; for thei sien, that his sorewe was greet.
Und so saßen sie bei ihm an der Erde sieben Tage und sieben Nächte, ohne daß einer ein Wort zu ihm redete, denn sie sahen, daß sein Schmerz allzu groß war.
