< Job 2 >
1 Forsothe it was doon, whanne in sum dai the sones of God `weren comun, and stoden bifor the Lord, and Sathan `was comun among hem, and stood in his siyt,
and to be [the] day and to come (in): come son: child [the] God to/for to stand upon LORD and to come (in): come also [the] Satan in/on/with midst their to/for to stand upon LORD
2 that the Lord seide to Sathan, Fro whennus comest thou? Which answeride, and seide, Y haue cumpassid the erthe, `and Y haue go thury it.
and to say LORD to(wards) [the] Satan where? from this to come (in): come and to answer [the] Satan [obj] LORD and to say from to rove in/on/with land: country/planet and from to go: walk in/on/with her
3 And the Lord seide to Sathan, Whethir thou hast biholde my seruaunt Joob, that noon in erthe is lijk hym; he is a symple man, and riytful, and dredynge God, and goynge awei fro yuel, and yit holdynge innocence? `But thou hast moued me ayens him, that `Y schulde turmente hym in veyn.
and to say LORD to(wards) [the] Satan to set: consider heart your to(wards) servant/slave my Job for nothing like him in/on/with land: country/planet man complete and upright afraid God and to turn aside: turn aside from bad: evil and still he to strengthen: hold in/on/with integrity his and to incite me in/on/with him to/for to swallow up him for nothing
4 To whom Sathan answeride, and seide, `A man schal yyue skyn for skyn, and alle thingis that he hath for his lijf;
and to answer [the] Satan [obj] LORD and to say skin about/through/for skin and all which to/for man to give: give about/through/for soul: life his
5 `ellis sende thin hond, and touche his boon and fleisch, and thanne thou schalt se, that he schal curse thee in the face.
but to send: reach please hand your and to touch to(wards) bone his and to(wards) flesh his if: surely yes not to(wards) face your to bless you
6 Therfor the Lord seide to Sathan, Lo! he is in `thin hond; netheles kepe thou his lijf.
and to say LORD to(wards) [the] Satan look! he in/on/with hand your surely [obj] soul: life his to keep: guard
7 Therfor Sathan yede out fro the face of the Lord, and smoot Joob with `a ful wickid botche fro the sole of the foot `til to his top;
and to come out: come [the] Satan from with face LORD and to smite [obj] Job in/on/with boil bad: harmful from palm: sole foot his (and till *Q(K)*) crown his
8 which Joob schauyde the quytere with a schelle, `and sat in the dunghil.
and to take: take to/for him earthenware to/for to scrape in/on/with him and he/she/it to dwell in/on/with midst [the] ashes
9 Forsothe his wijf seide to hym, Dwellist thou yit in thi symplenesse? Curse thou God, and die.
and to say to/for him woman: wife his still you to strengthen: hold in/on/with integrity your to bless God and to die
10 And Joob seide, Thou hast spoke as oon of the fonned wymmen; if we han take goodis of the hond of the Lord, whi forsothe suffren we not yuels? In alle these thingis Joob synnede not in hise lippis.
and to say to(wards) her like/as to speak: speak one [the] foolish to speak: speak also [obj] [the] good to receive from with [the] God and [obj] [the] bad: evil not to receive in/on/with all this not to sin Job in/on/with lips his
11 Therfor thre frendis of Joob herden al the yuel, that hadde bifelde to hym, and camen ech man fro his place, Eliphath Temanytes, and Baldach Suythes, and Sophar Naamathites; for thei `hadden seide togidere to hem silf, that thei wolden come togidere, and visite hym, and coumforte.
and to hear: hear three neighbor Job [obj] all [the] distress: evil [the] this [the] to come (in): come upon him and to come (in): come man: anyone from place his Eliphaz [the] Temanite and Bildad [the] Shuhite and Zophar [the] Naamathite and to appoint together to/for to come (in): come to/for to wander to/for him and to/for to be sorry: comfort him
12 And whanne thei hadden reisid afer `her iyen, thei knewen not hym; and thei crieden, and wepten, and to-renten her clothis, and spreynten dust on her heed `in to heuene.
and to lift: look [obj] eye: seeing their from distant and not to recognize him and to lift: loud voice their and to weep and to tear man: anyone robe his and to scatter dust upon head their [the] heaven [to]
13 And thei saten with hym in the erthe seuene daies and seuene nyytis, and no man spak a word to hym; for thei sien, that his sorewe was greet.
and to dwell with him to/for land: soil seven day and seven night and nothing to speak: speak to(wards) him word for to see: see for to magnify [the] pain much
