Jeremiah 9
1 Who schal yyue watir to myn heed, and a welle of teeris to myn iyen? And Y schal biwepe dai and niyt the slayn men of the douyter of my puple.
| ای کاش سر من مخزن آب می‌بود و چشمانم چشمهٔ اشک تا برای کشتگان قومم شب و روز گریه می‌کردم! |
2 Who schal yyue me in to a wildirnesse of dyuerse weigoeris? And I schal forsake my puple, and Y schal go awei fro hem. For whi alle ben auowteris, and the cumpenyes of trespassouris ayens the lawe;
| ای کاش منزلی در بیابان می‌داشتم و برای فراموش کردن قومم به آنجا پناه می‌بردم، چون همگی ایشان زناکار و خیانت‌پیشه‌اند! |
3 and thei helden forth her tunge as a bouwe of leesyng, and not of treuthe Thei ben coumfortid in erthe, for thei yeden out fro yuel to yuel, and thei knewen not me, seith the Lord.
| خداوند می‌فرماید: «زبان خود را مثل کمان خم می‌کنند تا سخنان دروغ خود را مانند تیر رها سازند؛ به جای راستی، دروغ بر سرزمینشان حکومت می‌کند؛ در شرارت ورزیدن پیشرفت می‌کنند و مرا در نظر ندارند.» |
4 Ech man kepe hym fro his neiybore, and haue no trist in ony brother of hym; for whi ech brother disseyuyng schal disseyue, and ech frend schal go gilefuli.
| از دوستانتان برحذر باشید! به برادرتان اعتماد نکنید! چون برادران همه فریبکارند و دوستان همه سخن‌چین! |
5 And a man schal scorne his brother, and schal not speke treuthe; for thei tauyten her tunge to speke leesyng; thei traueliden to do wickidli.
| دوست، دوست را فریب می‌دهد؛ کسی نیست که سخن راست بگوید؛ ایشان زبان خود را عادت داده‌اند که دروغ بگوید؛ آنها با این گناهان، خود را خسته و فرسوده می‌کنند! |
6 Thi dwellyng is in the myddis of gile; in gile thei forsoken to knowe me, seith the Lord.
| خداوند می‌فرماید: «تو در میان دروغگویان و فریبکارانی زندگی می‌کنی که نمی‌خواهند به سوی من بیایند.» |
7 Therfor the Lord of oostis seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal welle togidere, and Y schal preue hem; for whi what other thing schal Y do fro the face of the douyter of my puple?
| بنابراین خداوند لشکرهای آسمان چنین می‌فرماید: «آنها را مثل فلز در کورهٔ آتش می‌گدازم تا تصفیه شوند؛ جز این، چه می‌توانم بکنم؟ |
8 The tunge of hem is an arowe woundynge, and spak gile; in his mouth he spekith pees with his frend, and priueli he settith tresouns to hym.
| زبان دروغگوی آنها، مثل تیری زهرآلود است؛ در حضور همسایه‌های خود، سخنان دوستانه بر زبان می‌رانند، ولی پشت سر، علیه ایشان توطئه می‌چینند. |
9 Whether Y schal not visite on these thingis, seith the Lord, ether schal not my soule take veniaunce on siche a folc?
| آیا به خاطر این کارها نباید ایشان را تنبیه کنم؟ آیا نباید از چنین قومی انتقام بگیرم؟» |
10 On hillis Y schal take wepyng and mournyng, and weilyng on the faire thingis of desert, for tho ben brent; for no man is passynge forth, and thei herden not the vois of hym that weldith; fro a brid of the eir `til to scheep, tho passiden ouer, and yeden awei.
| برای کوههای سرسبز این سرزمین و چراگاههای خرم آن می‌گریم و ماتم می‌کنم، چون همه سوخته و ویران شده‌اند، هیچ موجود زنده‌ای از آن نمی‌گذرد؛ نه رمه‌ای هست، نه پرنده‌ای و نه جانوری؛ همه گریخته‌اند. |
11 And Y schal yyue Jerusalem in to heepis of grauel, and in to dennes of dragouns; and Y schal yyue the citees of Juda in to desolacioun, for ther is no dwellere.
| خداوند می‌فرماید: «اورشلیم را به خرابه تبدیل کرده، آن را لانهٔ شغالها خواهم کرد؛ شهرهای یهودا را خالی از سکنه و ویران خواهم ساخت.» |
12 Who is a wise man that schal vndurstonde these thingis, and to whom the word of the mouth of the Lord schal be maad, that he telle this? Whi the erthe perischide, it is brent as desert, for noon is that passith?
| پرسیدم: «خداوندا، چرا این سرزمین باید به بیابان خشک و سوزان تبدیل شود، به طوری که کسی جرأت نکند از آن عبور نماید؟ کدام انسان حکیمی می‌تواند این موضوع را درک کند؟ به چه کسی این را آشکار کرده‌ای تا به مردم توضیح دهد؟» |
13 And the Lord seide, For thei forsoken my lawe, which Y yaf to hem, and thei herden not my vois, and thei yeden not therynne;
| خداوند در جواب فرمود: «قوم من از دستورهایی که به ایشان داده بودم، سرپیچی کرده و به آنچه گفته بودم، عمل ننمودند، |
14 and thei yeden aftir the schrewidnesse of her herte, and aftir Baalym, which thei lerneden of her fadris;
| بلکه به جای آن، در پی خواسته‌های دل سرکش خود رفتند و طبق تعلیم اجدادشان، بتهای بعل را پرستیدند. |
15 therfor the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal fede this puple with wermod, and Y schal yyue to hem drynke the watir of galle.
| پس خداوند لشکرهای آسمان، خدای اسرائیل، چنین می‌فرماید: به این سبب به ایشان خوراک تلخ خواهم داد و آب زهرآلود خواهم نوشانید؛ |
16 And Y schal scatere hem among hethene men, whiche thei and her fadris knewen not; and Y schal sende swerd aftir hem, til thei ben wastid.
| ایشان را در میان قومهایی که نه خودشان و نه اجدادشان می‌شناختند، پراکنده خواهم ساخت؛ حتی در آنجا نیز شمشیر هلاکت را به تعقیب‌شان خواهم فرستاد تا به کلی نابود شوند.» |
17 The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Biholde ye, and clepe ye wymmen `that weilen, and come thei; and sende ye to tho wymmen that ben wise, and haste thei.
| خداوند لشکرهای آسمان می‌فرماید: «به آنچه روی خواهد داد بیندیشید! آنگاه به دنبال زنان نوحه‌خوان بفرستید، به دنبال ماهرترین آنها! |
18 Haste thei, and take thei weilynge on you; youre iyen brynge doun teeris, and youre iyelidis flowe with watris;
| از ایشان بخواهید تا با شتاب بیایند و آنچنان نوحه‌سرایی کنند که چشمانتان از اشک پر شود و از مژه‌هایتان آب جاری گردد! |
19 for the vois of weilyng is herd fro Sion. Hou ben we distried, and schent greetli? for we han forsake the lond, for oure tabernaclis ben forsakun.
| به ناله‌های اهالی اورشلیم گوش دهید که می‌گویند:”وای بر ما، چگونه غارت شدیم! وای بر ما، چگونه رسوا گشتیم! باید که سرزمینمان را ترک کنیم، چون خانه‌هایمان همه ویران شده‌اند.“» |
20 Therfor, wymmen, here ye the word of the Lord, and youre eeris take the word of his mouth; and teche ye youre douytris weilyng, and ech womman teche hir neiybore mournyng.
| ای زنان به کلام خداوند گوش دهید و به سخنان او توجه کنید! به دخترانتان نوحه‌گری و به همسایگانتان عزاداری بیاموزید. |
21 For whi deth stiede bi youre wyndows, it entride in to youre housis, to leese litle children with outforth, and yonge men fro the stretis.
| زیرا شبح مرگ از پنجره‌ها به داخل خانه‌ها و کاخهایتان خزیده است. دیگر بچه‌ها در کوچه‌ها بازی نمی‌کنند و جوانان بر سر گذر جمع نمی‌شوند، چون همه مرده‌اند. |
22 Speke thou, the Lord seith, these thingis, And the deed bodi of a man schal fal doun as a toord on the face of the cuntrei, and as hei bihynde the bak of the mowere, and noon is that gaderith.
| خداوند می‌فرماید به ایشان بگو: «اجساد مردم مثل فضله در صحرا و مانند بافه در پشت سر دروگر، خواهند افتاد و کسی نخواهد بود که آنها را دفن کند. |
23 The Lord seith these thingis, A wise man haue not glorie in his wisdom, and a strong man haue not glorie in his strengthe, and a riche man haue not glorie in hise richessis; but he that hath glorie,
| «مرد دانا به حکمت خود افتخار نکند و شخص نیرومند به قوت خود نبالد و ثروتمند به ثروت خود فخر نکند؛ |
24 haue glorie in this, to wite and knowe me, for Y am the Lord, that do merci and dom and riytfulnesse in erthe. For whi these thingis plesen me, seith the Lord.
| بلکه هر که می‌خواهد افتخار کند، به این افتخار کند که مرا می‌شناسد و می‌داند که خداوند هستم و رحمت و انصاف و عدالت را بر زمین بجا می‌آورم؛ چیزهایی که موجب خشنودی و سرور من می‌باشند. |
25 Lo! daies comen, seith the Lord, and Y schal visite on ech man that hath prepucie vncircumcidid; on Egipt,
| «زمانی می‌رسد که تمام کسانی را که فقط در جسم ختنه شده‌اند تنبیه خواهم کرد، |
26 and on Juda, and on Edom, and on the sones of Amon, and on Moab, and on alle men that ben clippid on long heer, and dwellen in desert; for whi alle hethene men han prepucie, forsothe al the hous of Israel ben vncircumcidid in herte.
| یعنی مصری‌ها، ادومی‌ها، عمونی‌ها، موآبی‌ها، ساکنین صحرا که بت‌پرست هستند، و حتی شما مردم یهودا را! چون ختنهٔ شما هم مثل ختنهٔ آنها، فقط یک رسم و عادت است و بس، و دل و وجود گناه‌آلودتان ختنه نگردیده است.» |
