Jeremiah 9
1 Who schal yyue watir to myn heed, and a welle of teeris to myn iyen? And Y schal biwepe dai and niyt the slayn men of the douyter of my puple.
Oh! ma tête, que n’est-elle des eaux, et mes yeux, une fontaine de larmes! et je pleurerais jour et nuit les blessés à mort de la fille de mon peuple!
2 Who schal yyue me in to a wildirnesse of dyuerse weigoeris? And I schal forsake my puple, and Y schal go awei fro hem. For whi alle ben auowteris, and the cumpenyes of trespassouris ayens the lawe;
Oh! qui me donnera dans le désert une cabane de voyageur! et j’abandonnerais mon peuple et je m’en irais d’avec eux; car ils sont tous des adultères, une assemblée de perfides.
3 and thei helden forth her tunge as a bouwe of leesyng, and not of treuthe Thei ben coumfortid in erthe, for thei yeden out fro yuel to yuel, and thei knewen not me, seith the Lord.
Et ils bandent leur langue, leur arc de mensonge, et ils ne sont pas vaillants dans le pays pour la fidélité; car ils passent d’iniquité en iniquité, et ne me connaissent pas, dit l’Éternel.
4 Ech man kepe hym fro his neiybore, and haue no trist in ony brother of hym; for whi ech brother disseyuyng schal disseyue, and ech frend schal go gilefuli.
Gardez-vous chacun de son ami, et ne vous confiez en aucun frère; car tout frère ne fera que supplanter, et tout ami marche dans la calomnie.
5 And a man schal scorne his brother, and schal not speke treuthe; for thei tauyten her tunge to speke leesyng; thei traueliden to do wickidli.
Et chacun d’eux trompe son ami, et ne dit pas la vérité; ils ont enseigné leur langue à dire le mensonge, ils se fatiguent à faire le mal.
6 Thi dwellyng is in the myddis of gile; in gile thei forsoken to knowe me, seith the Lord.
Ton habitation est au milieu de la tromperie; à cause de la tromperie ils refusent de me connaître, dit l’Éternel.
7 Therfor the Lord of oostis seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal welle togidere, and Y schal preue hem; for whi what other thing schal Y do fro the face of the douyter of my puple?
C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées: Voici, je vais les affiner et les éprouver; car comment agirais-je à l’égard de la fille de mon peuple?
8 The tunge of hem is an arowe woundynge, and spak gile; in his mouth he spekith pees with his frend, and priueli he settith tresouns to hym.
Leur langue est une flèche mortelle, elle profère la tromperie; de sa bouche il parle de paix avec son ami, mais au-dedans il lui dresse des embûches.
9 Whether Y schal not visite on these thingis, seith the Lord, ether schal not my soule take veniaunce on siche a folc?
Ne les punirais-je pas à cause de ces choses? dit l’Éternel; mon âme ne se vengerait-elle pas d’une nation comme celle-là?
10 On hillis Y schal take wepyng and mournyng, and weilyng on the faire thingis of desert, for tho ben brent; for no man is passynge forth, and thei herden not the vois of hym that weldith; fro a brid of the eir `til to scheep, tho passiden ouer, and yeden awei.
J’élèverai une voix de pleurs et une lamentation sur les montagnes, et une complainte sur les pâturages du désert, car ils sont brûlés, de sorte que personne n’y passe et qu’on n’y entend pas la voix des troupeaux; tant les oiseaux des cieux que les bêtes ont fui; ils s’en sont allés.
11 And Y schal yyue Jerusalem in to heepis of grauel, and in to dennes of dragouns; and Y schal yyue the citees of Juda in to desolacioun, for ther is no dwellere.
Et je ferai de Jérusalem des monceaux [de ruines], un repaire de chacals; et des villes de Juda, j’en ferai une désolation, de sorte qu’il n’y aura plus d’habitant.
12 Who is a wise man that schal vndurstonde these thingis, and to whom the word of the mouth of the Lord schal be maad, that he telle this? Whi the erthe perischide, it is brent as desert, for noon is that passith?
Qui est l’homme sage? qu’il comprenne cela. Et celui à qui la bouche de l’Éternel a parlé, qu’il le déclare! Pourquoi le pays périt-il, [et] est-il brûlé comme un désert, de sorte que personne n’y passe?
13 And the Lord seide, For thei forsoken my lawe, which Y yaf to hem, and thei herden not my vois, and thei yeden not therynne;
Et l’Éternel dit: Parce qu’ils ont abandonné ma loi que j’avais mise devant eux, et qu’ils n’ont pas écouté ma voix, et parce qu’ils n’ont pas marché en elle,
14 and thei yeden aftir the schrewidnesse of her herte, and aftir Baalym, which thei lerneden of her fadris;
et qu’ils ont marché suivant le penchant obstiné de leur cœur et après les Baals, ce que leurs pères leur ont enseigné.
15 therfor the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal fede this puple with wermod, and Y schal yyue to hem drynke the watir of galle.
C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Voici, je vais faire manger de l’absinthe à ce peuple, et je leur ferai boire de l’eau de fiel;
16 And Y schal scatere hem among hethene men, whiche thei and her fadris knewen not; and Y schal sende swerd aftir hem, til thei ben wastid.
et je les disperserai parmi les nations qu’ils n’ont pas connues, eux et leurs pères; et j’enverrai après eux l’épée, jusqu’à ce que je les aie consumés.
17 The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Biholde ye, and clepe ye wymmen `that weilen, and come thei; and sende ye to tho wymmen that ben wise, and haste thei.
Ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées: Considérez, et appelez les pleureuses, et qu’elles viennent; et envoyez vers les femmes sages, et qu’elles viennent,
18 Haste thei, and take thei weilynge on you; youre iyen brynge doun teeris, and youre iyelidis flowe with watris;
et qu’elles se hâtent, et qu’elles élèvent une [voix de] lamentation sur nous, et que nos yeux se fondent en larmes, et que l’eau coule de nos paupières.
19 for the vois of weilyng is herd fro Sion. Hou ben we distried, and schent greetli? for we han forsake the lond, for oure tabernaclis ben forsakun.
Car une voix de lamentation se fait entendre de Sion: Comme nous sommes détruits, [et] devenus fort honteux! car nous avons abandonné le pays, car ils ont jeté à bas nos demeures.
20 Therfor, wymmen, here ye the word of the Lord, and youre eeris take the word of his mouth; and teche ye youre douytris weilyng, and ech womman teche hir neiybore mournyng.
Vous, femmes, écoutez donc la parole de l’Éternel, et que votre oreille reçoive la parole de sa bouche; et enseignez à vos filles la lamentation, et chacune à son amie la complainte.
21 For whi deth stiede bi youre wyndows, it entride in to youre housis, to leese litle children with outforth, and yonge men fro the stretis.
Car la mort est montée par nos fenêtres, elle est entrée dans nos palais, pour retrancher de la rue les petits enfants, [et] des places, les jeunes hommes.
22 Speke thou, the Lord seith, these thingis, And the deed bodi of a man schal fal doun as a toord on the face of the cuntrei, and as hei bihynde the bak of the mowere, and noon is that gaderith.
Dis: Ainsi dit l’Éternel: Oui, le cadavre de l’homme tombera comme du fumier sur la face des champs, et comme la gerbe après le moissonneur, et il n’y a personne qui la recueille.
23 The Lord seith these thingis, A wise man haue not glorie in his wisdom, and a strong man haue not glorie in his strengthe, and a riche man haue not glorie in hise richessis; but he that hath glorie,
Ainsi dit l’Éternel: Que le sage ne se glorifie pas dans sa sagesse, et que l’homme vaillant ne se glorifie pas dans sa vaillance; que le riche ne se glorifie pas dans sa richesse;
24 haue glorie in this, to wite and knowe me, for Y am the Lord, that do merci and dom and riytfulnesse in erthe. For whi these thingis plesen me, seith the Lord.
mais que celui qui se glorifie, se glorifie en ceci, qu’il a de l’intelligence et qu’il me connaît; car je suis l’Éternel, qui use de bonté, de jugement et de justice sur la terre, car je trouve mes délices en ces choses-là, dit l’Éternel.
25 Lo! daies comen, seith the Lord, and Y schal visite on ech man that hath prepucie vncircumcidid; on Egipt,
Voici, des jours viennent, dit l’Éternel, et je punirai tous les circoncis avec les incirconcis,
26 and on Juda, and on Edom, and on the sones of Amon, and on Moab, and on alle men that ben clippid on long heer, and dwellen in desert; for whi alle hethene men han prepucie, forsothe al the hous of Israel ben vncircumcidid in herte.
l’Égypte, et Juda, et Édom, et les fils d’Ammon, et Moab, et tous ceux qui coupent les coins [de leur barbe], lesquels habitent le désert; car toutes les nations sont incirconcises, et toute la maison d’Israël est incirconcise de cœur.
