Jeremiah 7
1 The word that was maad of the Lord to Jeremye,
La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l'Éternel, en ces mots:
2 and seide, Stonde thou in the yate of the hous of the Lord, and preche there this word, and seie, Al Juda, that entren bi these yatis for to worschipe the Lord, here ye the word of the Lord.
Tiens-toi à la porte de la maison de l'Éternel, et là, crie cette parole, et dis: Écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, vous tous, hommes de Juda, qui entrez par ces portes pour vous prosterner devant l'Éternel.
3 The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Make ye good youre weies, and youre studies, and Y schal dwelle with you in this place.
Ainsi a dit l'Éternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Amendez vos voies et vos actions, et je vous ferai habiter en ce lieu.
4 Nyle ye triste in the wordis of leesyng, and seie, The temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord is.
Ne vous fiez pas à des paroles trompeuses, disant: C'est ici le temple de l'Éternel, le temple de l'Éternel, le temple de l'Éternel!
5 For if ye blessen youre weies, and your studies; if ye doon doom bitwixe a man and his neiybore;
Mais si sérieusement vous amendez vos voies et vos actions; si vous pratiquez la justice envers les uns et les autres;
6 if ye maken not fals caleng to a comelyng, and to a fadirles child, and to a widewe; nether scheden out innocent blood in this place, and goen not after alien goddis, in to yuel to you silf,
Si vous ne faites point de tort à l'étranger, à l'orphelin, à la veuve, et ne répandez point en ce lieu le sang innocent, et ne marchez pas après les dieux étrangers, pour votre ruine;
7 Y schal dwelle with you in this place, in the lond which Y yaf to youre fadris, fro the world and til in to the world.
Alors je vous ferai habiter en ce lieu, au pays que j'ai donné à vos pères, d'un siècle à l'autre siècle.
8 Lo! ye trusten to you in the wordis of leesyng, that shulen not profite to you;
Voici, vous vous fiez sur des paroles trompeuses, sans aucun profit.
9 to stele, to sle, to do auowtrie, to swere falsli, to make sacrifice to Baalym, and to go aftir alien goddys, whiche ye knowen not.
Quoi! vous dérobez, vous tuez, vous commettez des adultères, vous jurez faussement, vous offrez de l'en-cens à Baal, et allez après d'autres dieux que vous ne connaissez pas!
10 And ye camen, and stoden bifor me in this hous, in which my name is clepid to help; and ye seiden, We ben delyuered, for we han do alle these abhomynaciouns.
Puis vous venez vous présenter devant moi, dans cette maison, sur laquelle mon nom est invoqué, et vous dites: “Nous sommes délivrés ... “pour faire toutes ces abominations-là!
11 Whether therfor this hous, wherynne my name is clepid to help bifore youre iyen, is maad a denne of theues? I, Y am, Y siy, seith the Lord.
N'est-elle plus à vos yeux qu'une caverne de voleurs, cette maison sur laquelle mon nom est invoqué? Et voici, moi-même je le vois, dit l'Éternel.
12 Go ye to my place in Silo, where my name dwellide at the bigynnyng, and se ye what thingis Y dide to it, for the malice of my puple Israel.
Mais allez vers mon lieu, qui était à Silo, où je fis habiter mon nom au commencement, et voyez ce que je lui ai fait, à cause de la malice de mon peuple d'Israël.
13 And now, for ye han do alle these werkis, seith the Lord, and Y spak to you, and roos eerli, and Y spak, and ye herden not, and Y clepide you, and ye answeriden not;
Et maintenant, puisque vous faites toutes ces actions, dit l'Éternel, et que je vous ai parlé, parlé dès le matin, et que vous n'avez point écouté; que je vous ai appelés et que vous n'avez pas répondu;
14 Y schal do to this hous, wherynne my name is clepid to help, and in which hous ye han trist, and to the place which Y yaf to you and to youre fadris, as Y dide to Silo.
Je traiterai cette maison sur laquelle mon nom est invoqué et sur laquelle vous vous fiez, et ce lieu que je vous ai donné, à vous et à vos pères, comme j'ai traité Silo;
15 And Y schal caste you forth fro my face, as Y castide forth alle youre britheren, al the seed of Effraym.
Et je vous rejetterai de devant ma face, comme j'ai rejeté tous vos pères, toute la postérité d'Éphraïm.
16 Therfor nyl thou preie for this puple, nether take thou heriyng and preier for hem; and ayenstonde thou not me, for Y schal not here thee.
Et toi, ne prie pas pour ce peuple, n'élève pour eux ni cri ni requête, et ne me sollicite point, car je ne t'écouterai pas.
17 Whether thou seest not, what these men don in the citees of Juda, and in the stretis of Jerusalem?
Ne vois-tu pas ce qu'ils font dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?
18 The sones gaderen stickis, and the fadris kyndlen a fier; and wymmen sprengen togidere ynnere fatnesse, to make kakis to the queen of heuene, to make sacrifice to alien goddis, and to terre me to wrathfulnesse.
Les fils ramassent le bois, les pères allument le feu, et les femmes pétrissent la pâte, pour faire des gâteaux à la reine des cieux et des libations à d'autres dieux, afin de m'offenser.
19 Whether thei stiren me to wrathfulnesse? seith the Lord; whether thei stiren not hem silf in to schenschip of her cheer?
Est-ce moi qu'ils offensent? dit l'Éternel. N'est-ce pas eux-mêmes, à la confusion de leurs faces?
20 Therfor the Lord God seith these thingis, Lo! my strong veniaunce and myn indignacioun is wellid togidere on this place, on men, and on beestis, and on the tree of the cuntrei, and on the fruitis of erthe; and it schal be kyndlid, and it schal not be quenchid.
C'est pourquoi, ainsi a dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Voici, ma colère, ma fureur va fondre sur ce lieu, sur les hommes et sur les bêtes, sur les arbres des champs et sur les fruits de la terre; elle brûlera et ne s'éteindra point.
21 The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Heepe ye youre brent sacrifices to youre slayn sacrifices, and ete ye fleischis.
Ainsi a dit l'Éternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Ajoutez vos holocaustes à vos sacrifices, et mangez-en la chair.
22 For Y spak not with youre fadris, and Y comaundide not to hem of the word of brent sacrifices, and of slayn sacrifices, in the dai in which Y ledde hem out of the lond of Egipt.
Car je n'ai point parlé avec vos pères et je ne leur ai point donné de commandement, au jour où je les fis sortir du pays d'Égypte, touchant les holocaustes et les sacrifices.
23 But Y comaundide this word to hem, and Y seide, Here ye my vois, and Y schal be God to you, and ye schulen be a puple to me; and go ye in al the weie which Y comaundide to you, that it be wel to you.
Mais voici ce que je leur ai commandé et dit: Écoutez ma voix, et je serai votre Dieu, et vous serez mon peuple; et marchez dans toutes les voies que je vous ordonne, afin que vous soyez heureux.
24 And thei herden not, nether bowiden doun her eere, but thei yeden in her lustis, and in the schrewidnesse of her yuel herte; and thei ben put bihynde, and not bifore,
Mais ils n'ont point écouté, ils n'ont point prêté l'oreille; mais ils ont suivi les conseils, l'obstination de leur mauvais cœur, et ils se sont tournés en arrière au lieu de venir à moi.
25 fro the dai in which her fadris yeden out of the lond of Egipt til to this dai. And Y sente to you alle my seruauntis profetis, and Y roos eerli bi the dai, and Y sente.
Depuis le jour où vos pères sortirent du pays d'Égypte jusqu'à ce jour, je vous ai envoyé mes serviteurs les prophètes; je vous les ai envoyés chaque jour, dès le matin.
26 And thei herden not me, nether bowiden doun her eere; but thei maden hard her nol, and wrouyten worse than the fadris of hem.
Mais ils ne m'ont point écouté, ils n'ont point prêté l'oreille; ils ont roidi leur cou; ils ont fait pis que leurs pères.
27 And thou schalt speke to hem alle these wordis, and thei schulen not heere thee; and thou schalt clepe hem, and thei schul not answere to thee.
Et tu leur prononceras toutes ces paroles; mais ils ne t'écouteront pas. Tu crieras après eux; mais ils ne te répondront pas.
28 And thou schalt seie to hem, This is the folc, that herde not the vois of her Lord God, nether resseyuede chastysyng; feith perischide, and is takun awei fro the mouth of hem.
Alors tu leur diras: C'est ici la nation qui n'a pas écouté la voix de l'Éternel, son Dieu, et qui n'a point reçu instruction. La fidélité a péri; elle est retranchée de leur bouche!
29 Clippe thin heer, and cast awei, and take thou weilyng streiytli; for the Lord hath cast awei, and hath forsake the generacioun of his strong veniaunce.
Rase ta chevelure, et jette-la au loin; et sur les hauteurs, prononce une complainte! Car l'Éternel rejette et abandonne cette race, objet de son courroux.
30 For the sones of Juda han do yuel bifor myn iyen, seith the Lord; thei han set her offendyngis in the hous, in which my name is clepid to help, that thei schulden defoule that hous;
Car les enfants de Juda ont fait ce qui est mal à mes yeux, dit l'Éternel. Ils ont placé leurs abominations dans la maison sur laquelle mon nom est invoqué, afin de la souiller.
31 and thei bildiden hiye thingis in Tophet, which is in the valei of the sone of Ennon, that thei schulden brenne her sones and her douytris bi fier, whiche thingis Y comaundide not, nether thouyte in myn herte.
Et ils ont bâti les hauts lieux de Thopheth, qui est dans la vallée du fils de Hinnom, pour brûler au feu leurs fils et leurs filles, ce que je n'ai pas commandé et à quoi je n'ai point pensé.
32 Therfor lo! daies comen, seith the Lord, and it schal no more be seid Tophet, and the valei of the sone of Ennon, but the valey of sleyng; and thei schulen birie in Tophet, for ther is no place.
C'est pourquoi, voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Éternel, où l'on ne dira plus Thopheth et la vallée du fils de Hinnom, mais la vallée de la tuerie; et on ensevelira à Thopheth, faute de place.
33 And the deed careyn of this puple schal be in to mete to the briddis of heuene, and to the beestis of erthe; and noon schal be that schal dryue awei.
Et les cadavres de ce peuple seront la pâture des oiseaux des cieux et des bêtes de la terre, et il n'y aura personne qui les trouble.
34 And Y schal make to ceesse the vois of ioye, and the vois of gladnesse, and the vois of spouse, and the vois of spousesse fro the citees of Juda, and fro the stretis of Jerusalem; for the lond schal be in desolacioun.
Et je ferai cesser dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, la voix de joie et la voix d'allégresse, la voix de l'époux et la voix de l'épouse; car le pays sera un désert.
