Jeremiah 7
1 The word that was maad of the Lord to Jeremye,
Parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l’Eternel comme suit:
2 and seide, Stonde thou in the yate of the hous of the Lord, and preche there this word, and seie, Al Juda, that entren bi these yatis for to worschipe the Lord, here ye the word of the Lord.
"Place-toi à la porte de la maison de l’Eternel, et prononce là le discours que voici en disant: Ecoutez la parole de l’Eternel, vous tous, gens de Juda, qui entrez par ces portes pour vous prosterner devant l’Eternel!
3 The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Make ye good youre weies, and youre studies, and Y schal dwelle with you in this place.
Ainsi parle l’Eternel-Cebaot, Dieu d’Israël: Amendez vos voies et vos oeuvres, et je vous laisserai résider en ce lieu.
4 Nyle ye triste in the wordis of leesyng, and seie, The temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord is.
Ne vous fiez pas à cette formule trompeuse: "C’Est ici le sanctuaire de l’Eternel, le sanctuaire de l’Eternel, le sanctuaire de l’Eternel!"
5 For if ye blessen youre weies, and your studies; if ye doon doom bitwixe a man and his neiybore;
Car si vous corrigez sérieusement vos voies et vos oeuvres, si vous pratiquez une justice sévère dans vos relations réciproques;
6 if ye maken not fals caleng to a comelyng, and to a fadirles child, and to a widewe; nether scheden out innocent blood in this place, and goen not after alien goddis, in to yuel to you silf,
si vous vous abstenez d’opprimer l’étranger, l’orphelin et la veuve, de répandre du sang innocent en ce lieu, et de suivre des dieux étrangers, pour votre malheur,
7 Y schal dwelle with you in this place, in the lond which Y yaf to youre fadris, fro the world and til in to the world.
alors seulement je vous laisserai résider ici, dans le pays que j’ai donné à vos ancêtres, de siècle en siècle.
8 Lo! ye trusten to you in the wordis of leesyng, that shulen not profite to you;
Mais voici! Vous vous fiez à des formules trompeuses, dont la valeur est nulle.
9 to stele, to sle, to do auowtrie, to swere falsli, to make sacrifice to Baalym, and to go aftir alien goddys, whiche ye knowen not.
Eh quoi! Vous allez voler, tuer, commettre des adultères, faire de faux serments, encenser Baal et suivre des dieux étrangers, que vous ne connaissez point;
10 And ye camen, and stoden bifor me in this hous, in which my name is clepid to help; and ye seiden, We ben delyuered, for we han do alle these abhomynaciouns.
puis, vous venez vous présenter devant moi, dans ce temple qui porte mon nom, vous écriant: "Nous sommes sauvés!" pour pratiquer encore toutes ces mêmes abominations!
11 Whether therfor this hous, wherynne my name is clepid to help bifore youre iyen, is maad a denne of theues? I, Y am, Y siy, seith the Lord.
Mais elle est donc devenue à vos yeux une caverne de brigands, cette maison qui porte mon nom! Eh bien, moi aussi, j’ai vu les choses de cette façon, dit l’Eternel.
12 Go ye to my place in Silo, where my name dwellide at the bigynnyng, and se ye what thingis Y dide to it, for the malice of my puple Israel.
Mais rendez-vous donc à la demeure que j’avais à Silo, où tout d’abord j’avais fait résider mon nom, et voyez comment je l’ai traitée à cause de la perversité de mon peuple Israël!
13 And now, for ye han do alle these werkis, seith the Lord, and Y spak to you, and roos eerli, and Y spak, and ye herden not, and Y clepide you, and ye answeriden not;
Et maintenant, puisque vous commettez tous ces actes, dit l’Eternel, que je me suis adressé à vous sans cesse, et dès la première heure, sans être écouté par vous, que je vous ai appelés sans obtenir de réponse,
14 Y schal do to this hous, wherynne my name is clepid to help, and in which hous ye han trist, and to the place which Y yaf to you and to youre fadris, as Y dide to Silo.
je traiterai la maison qui porte mon nom et vous inspire cette confiance ainsi que la résidence que je vous ai assurée, à vous et à vos ancêtres, comme j’ai traité Silo;
15 And Y schal caste you forth fro my face, as Y castide forth alle youre britheren, al the seed of Effraym.
je vous rejetterai de devant ma face, comme j’ai rejeté tous vos frères, toute la race d’Ephraïm.
16 Therfor nyl thou preie for this puple, nether take thou heriyng and preier for hem; and ayenstonde thou not me, for Y schal not here thee.
Quant à toi, n’intercède pas pour ce peuple, ne profère en sa faveur ni supplication ni prière, ne cherche pas à me fléchir, car je ne t’écouterai pas.
17 Whether thou seest not, what these men don in the citees of Juda, and in the stretis of Jerusalem?
Ne vois-tu pas ce qu’ils font dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?
18 The sones gaderen stickis, and the fadris kyndlen a fier; and wymmen sprengen togidere ynnere fatnesse, to make kakis to the queen of heuene, to make sacrifice to alien goddis, and to terre me to wrathfulnesse.
Les enfants ramassent du bois, leurs pères allument le feu et les femmes pétrissent de la pâte pour confectionner des gâteaux en l’honneur de la reine des cieux, pour faire des libations aux dieux étrangers, avec l’intention de me blesser.
19 Whether thei stiren me to wrathfulnesse? seith the Lord; whether thei stiren not hem silf in to schenschip of her cheer?
Mais est-ce moi qu’ils blessent? dit l’Eternel; n’est-ce pas plutôt eux-mêmes, à leur propre confusion?
20 Therfor the Lord God seith these thingis, Lo! my strong veniaunce and myn indignacioun is wellid togidere on this place, on men, and on beestis, and on the tree of the cuntrei, and on the fruitis of erthe; and it schal be kyndlid, and it schal not be quenchid.
C’Est pourquoi ainsi parle l’Eternel: "Voici, ma colère enflammée va fondre sur ces lieux, sur les hommes et les animaux, sur les arbres des champs et les fruits de la terre; elle brûlera sans s’éteindre.
21 The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Heepe ye youre brent sacrifices to youre slayn sacrifices, and ete ye fleischis.
Ainsi parle l’Eternel-Cebaot, Dieu d’Israël: "Joignez vos holocaustes à vos autres sacrifices et mangez-en la chair.
22 For Y spak not with youre fadris, and Y comaundide not to hem of the word of brent sacrifices, and of slayn sacrifices, in the dai in which Y ledde hem out of the lond of Egipt.
Car je n’ai rien dit, rien ordonné à vos ancêtres, le jour où je les ai fait sortir du pays d’Egypte, en fait d’holocauste ni de sacrifice.
23 But Y comaundide this word to hem, and Y seide, Here ye my vois, and Y schal be God to you, and ye schulen be a puple to me; and go ye in al the weie which Y comaundide to you, that it be wel to you.
Mais voici l’ordre que je leur ai adressé, savoir: "Ecoutez ma voix, et je serai votre Dieu et vous serez mon peuple; suivez de tout point la voie que je vous prescris, afin d’être heureux."
24 And thei herden not, nether bowiden doun her eere, but thei yeden in her lustis, and in the schrewidnesse of her yuel herte; and thei ben put bihynde, and not bifore,
Or, ils n’ont point obéi, point prêté l’oreille; ils ont suivi leurs inspirations, tes instincts de leur coeur vicieux, ils ont rétrogradé au lieu d’avancer.
25 fro the dai in which her fadris yeden out of the lond of Egipt til to this dai. And Y sente to you alle my seruauntis profetis, and Y roos eerli bi the dai, and Y sente.
Depuis le jour où vos ancêtres sortirent du pays d’Egypte jusqu’à présent, je vous ai envoyé tous mes serviteurs, les prophètes, je les ai envoyés journellement, chaque matin;
26 And thei herden not me, nether bowiden doun her eere; but thei maden hard her nol, and wrouyten worse than the fadris of hem.
mais ils ne m’ont pas écouté, ils n’ont pas prêté l’oreille; ils ont raidi leur nuque, ils ont fait pis que leurs pères.
27 And thou schalt speke to hem alle these wordis, and thei schulen not heere thee; and thou schalt clepe hem, and thei schul not answere to thee.
Et tu leur diras toutes ces choses, mais ils ne t’écouteront point; et tu les interpelleras, mais ils te laisseront sans réponse.
28 And thou schalt seie to hem, This is the folc, that herde not the vois of her Lord God, nether resseyuede chastysyng; feith perischide, and is takun awei fro the mouth of hem.
Tu leur diras alors: "Voici le peuple qui est sourd à la voix de l’Eternel, son Dieu, et rebelle aux remontrances; chez lui la fidélité est morte, elle est bannie de sa bouche!"
29 Clippe thin heer, and cast awei, and take thou weilyng streiytli; for the Lord hath cast awei, and hath forsake the generacioun of his strong veniaunce.
Coupe ta belle chevelure et jette-la à terre, exhale tes plaintes sur les hauteurs, car l’Eternel repousse, abandonne la race qui a encouru sa colère.
30 For the sones of Juda han do yuel bifor myn iyen, seith the Lord; thei han set her offendyngis in the hous, in which my name is clepid to help, that thei schulden defoule that hous;
Oui, les enfants de Juda ont fait ce que je réprouve, dit l’Eternel, ils ont placé leurs idoles immondes dans la maison qui porte mon nom, pour la profaner.
31 and thei bildiden hiye thingis in Tophet, which is in the valei of the sone of Ennon, that thei schulden brenne her sones and her douytris bi fier, whiche thingis Y comaundide not, nether thouyte in myn herte.
Ils ont bâti les hauts-lieux du Tofèt, dans la vallée de Ben-Hinnom, pour brûler leurs fils et leurs filles par le feu, chose que je n’ai point commandée et qui est loin de ma pensée.
32 Therfor lo! daies comen, seith the Lord, and it schal no more be seid Tophet, and the valei of the sone of Ennon, but the valey of sleyng; and thei schulen birie in Tophet, for ther is no place.
C’Est pourquoi, voici que des jours viennent, dit l’Eternel, où il sera question, non plus de Tofèt ni de vallée de Ben-Hinnom, mais de vallée d’égorgement, et où l’on enterrera les morts à Tofèt, faute de place.
33 And the deed careyn of this puple schal be in to mete to the briddis of heuene, and to the beestis of erthe; and noon schal be that schal dryue awei.
Et les cadavres de ce peuple serviront de pâture aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre, sans que personne les trouble.
34 And Y schal make to ceesse the vois of ioye, and the vois of gladnesse, and the vois of spouse, and the vois of spousesse fro the citees of Juda, and fro the stretis of Jerusalem; for the lond schal be in desolacioun.
Et je ferai disparaître des villes de Juda et des rues de Jérusalem les cris de joie et les chants d’allégresse, la voix du fiancé et la voix de la fiancée, car ce pays sera devenu un désert.
