Jeremiah 46
1 The word of the Lord, that was maad to Jeremye, the profete, ayens hethene men;
En el cuarto año del reinado de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, le llegó al profeta Jeremías un mensaje del Señor sobre las naciones extranjeras.
2 to Egipt, ayens the oost of Farao Nechao, kyng of Egipt, that was bisidis the flood Eufrates, in Charchamys, whom Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne, smoot, in the fourthe yeer of Joachym, sone of Josie, kyng of Juda.
Se trata del faraón Neco, rey de Egipto, y del ejército egipcio que fue derrotado en Carquemis, en el río Éufrates, por Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia.
3 Make ye redi scheeld and targat, and go ye forth to batel.
Recojan sus escudos grandes y pequeños, y avancen listos para la batalla.
4 Ioyne ye horsis, and stie, ye knyytis; stonde ye in helmes, polische ye speris, clothe ye you in haburiowns.
¡Pongan los arneses a los caballos y suban a sus carros; tomen sus posiciones con los cascos puestos! Afilen sus lanzas y pónganse la armadura.
5 What therfor? Y siy hem dredeful, and turnynge the backis, the stronge men of hem slayn; and thei fledden swiftli, and bihelden not; drede was on ech side, seith the Lord.
¿Por qué veo sus líneas rotas y en retirada? Sus soldados están derrotados. Huyen tan rápido que ni siquiera miran hacia atrás porque están tan aterrorizados por lo que sucede a su alrededor, declara el Señor.
6 A swift man schal not fle, and a strong man gesse not hym silf to be saued; at the north, bisidis the flood Eufrates, thei weren ouer comun, and fellen doun.
Ni siquiera los más rápidos pueden huir; los soldados no pueden escapar. Allí, en el norte, junto al Éufrates, caen y mueren.
7 Who is this, that stieth as a flood, and hise swelewis wexen greet as of floodis?
¿Quién es ese que viene, subiendo como el Nilo, como ríos arremolinados cuyas aguas se desbordan?
8 Egipte stiede at the licnesse of a flood, and hise wawis schulen be mouyd as floodis; and it schal seie, Y schal stie, and hile the erthe; Y schal leese the citee, and dwelleris therof.
Egipto está subiendo como el Nilo; sus aguas se arremolinan como ríos que se desbordan, presumiendo: “Me levantaré y arrasaré la tierra; destruiré las ciudades y a sus habitantes”.
9 Stie ye on horsis, and make ye ful out ioie in charis; and stronge men, come forth, Ethiopie and Libie, holdynge scheeld, and Lidii, takynge and schetynge arowis.
¡Caballos, a la carga! ¡Carros, avancen como locos! Hagan avanzar a la infantería: soldados de Etiopía y de Put llevando sus escudos, arqueros de Lidia con sus arcos.
10 Forsothe that dai of the Lord God of oostis is a dai of veniaunce, that he take veniaunce of hise enemyes; the swerd schal deuoure, and schal be fillid, and schal greetli be fillid with the blood of hem; for whi the slayn sacrifice of the Lord of oostis is in the lond of the north, bisidis the flood Eufrates.
Pero éste es el día del Señor Dios Todopoderoso, un día de retribución en el que se vengará de sus enemigos. La espada destruirá hasta que esté satisfecha, hasta que se haya hartado de su sangre. El Señor Dios Todopoderoso está celebrando un sacrificio en el país del norte, junto al Éufrates.
11 Thou virgyn, the douyter of Egipt, stie in to Galaad, and take medicyn. In veyn thou schalt multiplie medecyns; helthe schal not be to thee.
¡Ve a buscar ungüento curativo en Galaad, virgen hija de Egipto! Pero todo lo que uses para ayudarte fracasará, porque no hay nada que te cure.
12 Hethene men herden thi schenschipe, and thi yellyng fillide the erthe; for a strong man hurtlide ayens a strong man, and bothe fellen doun togidere.
Las demás naciones han oído cómo fuiste humillada en la derrota. Todos pueden oír tus gritos de dolor. Los soldados caen unos sobre otros y mueren juntos.
13 The word which the Lord spak to Jeremye, the profete, on that that Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne, was to comynge, and to smytynge the lond of Egipt.
Este es el mensaje que el Señor dio al profeta Jeremías sobre el ataque de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, a Egipto:
14 Telle ye to Egipt, and make ye herd in Magdalo, and sowne it in Memphis, and seie ye in Taphnys, Stonde thou, and make thee redi, for a swerd schal deuoure tho thingis that ben bi thi cumpas.
¡Grita una advertencia en Egipto! Avisen a todos en Migdol, y en Menfis y Tafnes: Prepárense para defenderse, porque la guerra está destruyendo todo a su alrededor.
15 Whi hath thi strong man wexe rotun? He stood not, for the Lord vndurturnede hym.
¿Por qué huyó Apis, tu dios toro? No pudo mantenerse en pie porque el Señor lo derribó.
16 He multipliede falleris, and a man felle doun to his neiybore; and thei schulen seie, Rise ye, and turne we ayen to oure puple, and to the lond of oure birthe, fro the face of swerd of the culuer.
Muchos soldados se tropiezan y caen unos sobre otros y dicen: “¡Vamos! Volvamos a casa, a nuestro pueblo, donde nacimos, si no nos van a matar”.
17 Clepe ye the name of Farao, kyng of Egipt; the tyme hath brouyt noise.
Cuando lleguen allí, dirán del faraón, rey de Egipto: “Sólo hace mucho ruido. Ha desperdiciado su oportunidad”.
18 Y lyue, seith the kyng, the Lord of oostis is his name; for it schal come as Thabor in hillis, and as Carmele in the see.
Vivo yo, declara el Rey que tiene el nombre de “el Señor Todopoderoso”, el rey de Babilonia vendrá. Es como el monte Tabor, que sobresale de los demás montes, como el monte Carmelo en lo alto del mar.
19 Thou dwelleresse, the douyter of Egipt, make to thee vessels of passyng ouer; for whi Memfis schal be in to wildirnesse, and schal be forsakun vnhabitable.
¡Prepara tus maletas para el exilio, hija que vives en Egipto! Menfis va a ser destruida, un lugar vacío donde nadie vive.
20 Egipt is a schapli cow calf, and fair; a prickere fro the north schal come to it.
Egipto es una hermosa vaca joven, pero un insecto urticante del norte viene a atacarla.
21 Also the hirid men therof, that liueden as caluys maad fatte in the myddis therof, ben turned, and fledden togidere, and miyten not stonde; for the dai of sleynge of hem schal come on hem, the tyme of the visityng of hem.
Los soldados que Egipto contrató son como terneros engordados para el matadero. Ellos también se retirarán. No se pondrán de pie y lucharán; todos huirán. Se acerca su día de destrucción; el tiempo en que serán castigados.
22 The vois of hem schal sowne as of bras, for thei schulen haste with oost, and with axis thei schulen come to it. As men kittynge doun trees thei kittiden doun the forest therof,
Los egipcios retrocederán con un crujido como el de una serpiente que se desliza, porque el enemigo los atacará con hachas, acercándose a ellos como cortadores de madera que cortan árboles.
23 seith the Lord, which mai not be noumbrid; thei ben multiplied ouer locustis, and no noumbre is in hem.
Los derribarán como un bosque espeso, declara el Señor, porque los invasores son como una nube de langostas: son tantos que no se pueden contar.
24 The douytir of Egipt is schent, and bitakun in to the hond of the puple of the north,
El pueblo de Egipto será humillado. Será entregado a los pueblos del norte.
25 seide the Lord of oostis, God of Israel. Lo! Y schal visite on the noise of Alisaundre, and on Farao, and on Egipt, and on the goddis therof, and on the kyngis therof, and on hem that tristen in hym.
El Señor Todopoderoso, el Dios de Israel, dice Vigilen, porque castigaré a Amón, el dios de Tebas, y al faraón. Castigaré al pueblo de Egipto con sus dioses y sus reyes, y a todos los que confían en el Faraón.
26 And Y schal yyue hem in to the hondis of men that seken the lijf of hem, and in to the hondis of Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne, and in to the hondis of hise seruauntis; and aftir these thingis it schal be enhabitid, as in the formere daies, seith the Lord.
Voy a entregarlos a los que quieren matarlos, a Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y a sus oficiales. Pero después de que todo esto ocurra, la gente vivirá en Egipto como antes, declara el Señor.
27 And thou, Jacob, my seruaunt, drede thou not, and Israel, drede thou not; for lo! Y schal make thee saaf fro fer place, and thi seed fro the lond of his caitiftee; and Jacob schal turne ayen, and schal reste, and schal haue prosperite, and noon schal be, that schal make hym aferd.
Pero ustedes, descendientes de Jacob, mi siervo, no tienen que tener miedo. Israelitas, no tienen que desanimarse. Prometo rescatarlos desde sus lejanos lugares de exilio, a sus descendientes desde los países donde están cautivos. Volverán a casa, a una vida tranquila y cómoda, libre de cualquier amenaza.
28 And Jacob, my seruaunt, nyle thou drede, seith the Lord, for Y am with thee; for Y schal waste alle folkis, to whiche Y castide thee out; but Y schal not waste thee, but Y schal chastise thee in doom, and Y schal not spare thee as innocent.
Descendientes de Jacob, ¡no tengan miedo! declara el Señor, porque yo estaré con ustedes. Destruiré por completo todas las naciones en las que los he dispersado, pero no los destruiré del todo. Sin embargo, los disciplinaré como se lo merecen, y pueden estar seguros de que no los dejaré impunes.
