Jeremiah 46
1 The word of the Lord, that was maad to Jeremye, the profete, ayens hethene men;
Parole du Seigneur qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, contre les nations;
2 to Egipt, ayens the oost of Farao Nechao, kyng of Egipt, that was bisidis the flood Eufrates, in Charchamys, whom Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne, smoot, in the fourthe yeer of Joachym, sone of Josie, kyng of Juda.
À l’Egypte, contre l’armée de Pharaon Néchao, roi d’Egypte, qui était auprès du fleuve d’Euphrate à Charcamis, que Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, battit dans ]a quatrième année de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda.
3 Make ye redi scheeld and targat, and go ye forth to batel.
Préparez le grand bouclier et le petit bouclier, et avancez-vous pour la guerre.
4 Ioyne ye horsis, and stie, ye knyytis; stonde ye in helmes, polische ye speris, clothe ye you in haburiowns.
Attelez les chevaux, montez, cavaliers, mettez des casques, polissez vos lances, revêtez-vous de vos cuirasses.
5 What therfor? Y siy hem dredeful, and turnynge the backis, the stronge men of hem slayn; and thei fledden swiftli, and bihelden not; drede was on ech side, seith the Lord.
Quoi donc? Je les ai vus eux-mêmes effrayés et tournant le dos; leurs braves taillés en pièces; ils ont fui en se précipitant, et n’ont pas regardé derrière eux; la terreur vient de toutes parts, dit le Seigneur.
6 A swift man schal not fle, and a strong man gesse not hym silf to be saued; at the north, bisidis the flood Eufrates, thei weren ouer comun, and fellen doun.
Que l’homme agile ne fuie pas, que le brave ne croie pas se sauver; vers l’aquilon, près de l’Euphrate, ils ont été vaincus et renversés.
7 Who is this, that stieth as a flood, and hise swelewis wexen greet as of floodis?
Qui est celui qui monte comme un fleuve, et dont les eaux profondes s’enflent comme celles des grandes rivières?
8 Egipte stiede at the licnesse of a flood, and hise wawis schulen be mouyd as floodis; and it schal seie, Y schal stie, and hile the erthe; Y schal leese the citee, and dwelleris therof.
L’Egypte monte comme un fleuve, et ses flots s’agiteront comme des fleuves, et elle dira: En montant je couvrirai la terre, je perdrai la cité et ses habitants.
9 Stie ye on horsis, and make ye ful out ioie in charis; and stronge men, come forth, Ethiopie and Libie, holdynge scheeld, and Lidii, takynge and schetynge arowis.
Montez sur vos chevaux, et sautez sur vos chars; qu’ils s’avancent, les braves d’Ethiopie, et les Lybiens tenant des boucliers, et les Lydiens saisissant et lançant des flèches.
10 Forsothe that dai of the Lord God of oostis is a dai of veniaunce, that he take veniaunce of hise enemyes; the swerd schal deuoure, and schal be fillid, and schal greetli be fillid with the blood of hem; for whi the slayn sacrifice of the Lord of oostis is in the lond of the north, bisidis the flood Eufrates.
Mais c’est le jour du Seigneur, Dieu des armées, jour de vengeance, pour tirer vengeance de ses ennemis; le glaive dévorera, et il se rassasiera, et il s’enivrera de leur sang; car la victime du Seigneur Dieu des armées est dans la terre de l’aquilon, près du fleuve de l’Euphrate.
11 Thou virgyn, the douyter of Egipt, stie in to Galaad, and take medicyn. In veyn thou schalt multiplie medecyns; helthe schal not be to thee.
Monte à Galaad, et prends de la résine, vierge fille de l’Egypte; vainement tu multiplies les remèdes; il n’y aura pas de guérison pour toi.
12 Hethene men herden thi schenschipe, and thi yellyng fillide the erthe; for a strong man hurtlide ayens a strong man, and bothe fellen doun togidere.
Les nations ont entendu ton ignominie, et ton hurlement a rempli la terre, parce que le fort a heurté contre le fort et que tous deux sont tombés ensemble.
13 The word which the Lord spak to Jeremye, the profete, on that that Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne, was to comynge, and to smytynge the lond of Egipt.
Parole que le Seigneur à dite à Jérémie, le prophète, sur ce que Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, devait venir et frapper la terre d’Egypte.
14 Telle ye to Egipt, and make ye herd in Magdalo, and sowne it in Memphis, and seie ye in Taphnys, Stonde thou, and make thee redi, for a swerd schal deuoure tho thingis that ben bi thi cumpas.
Annoncez à l’Egypte, et faites entendre à Magdalum votre voix, et qu’elle retentisse à Memphis et à Taphnis; dites: Sois debout, prépare-toi; parce que le glaive dévorera ce qui est autour de toi.
15 Whi hath thi strong man wexe rotun? He stood not, for the Lord vndurturnede hym.
Pourquoi ton brave s’est-il pourri? il ne s’est pas tenu debout, parce que le Seigneur l’a renversé.
16 He multipliede falleris, and a man felle doun to his neiybore; and thei schulen seie, Rise ye, and turne we ayen to oure puple, and to the lond of oure birthe, fro the face of swerd of the culuer.
Il a multiplié ceux qui tombaient, et l’homme est tombé sur son voisin, et ils diront: Lève-toi, et retournons à notre peuple et dans la terre de notre naissance, à cause de l’épée de la colombe.
17 Clepe ye the name of Farao, kyng of Egipt; the tyme hath brouyt noise.
Appelez le nom de Pharaon, roi d’Egypte: Le temps a amené du tumulte.
18 Y lyue, seith the kyng, the Lord of oostis is his name; for it schal come as Thabor in hillis, and as Carmele in the see.
Je vis, moi (dit le roi dont le nom est le Seigneur des armées); comme le Thabor est parmi les montagnes, et comme le Carmel est sur la mer, ainsi il viendra.
19 Thou dwelleresse, the douyter of Egipt, make to thee vessels of passyng ouer; for whi Memfis schal be in to wildirnesse, and schal be forsakun vnhabitable.
Fais tes préparatifs de transmigration, fille habitante de l’Egypte, parce que Memphis deviendra un désert, qu’elle sera abandonnée et inhabitable.
20 Egipt is a schapli cow calf, and fair; a prickere fro the north schal come to it.
C’est une génisse élégante et belle que l’Egypte; celui qui l’aiguillonnera viendra de l’aquilon.
21 Also the hirid men therof, that liueden as caluys maad fatte in the myddis therof, ben turned, and fledden togidere, and miyten not stonde; for the dai of sleynge of hem schal come on hem, the tyme of the visityng of hem.
Ses mercenaires aussi qui vivaient au milieu d’elle, comme des veaux engraissés, ont tourné le dos, et ils ont fui tous ensemble, et ils n’ont pu demeurer debout, parce qu’est venu sur eux le jour de leur carnage, le temps de leur visite.
22 The vois of hem schal sowne as of bras, for thei schulen haste with oost, and with axis thei schulen come to it. As men kittynge doun trees thei kittiden doun the forest therof,
Sa voix retentira comme le bruit de l’airain, parce qu’ils marcheront rapidement avec une armée, et qu’avec des haches ils viendront à elle, comme des bûcherons.
23 seith the Lord, which mai not be noumbrid; thei ben multiplied ouer locustis, and no noumbre is in hem.
Ils ont coupé par le pied, dit le Seigneur, les arbres de sa forêt, qu’on ne peut compter: ils se sont multipliés plus que les sauterelles, et ils sont sans nombre.
24 The douytir of Egipt is schent, and bitakun in to the hond of the puple of the north,
La fille d’Egypte a été couverte de confusion, et livrée aux mains du peuple de l’aquilon.
25 seide the Lord of oostis, God of Israel. Lo! Y schal visite on the noise of Alisaundre, and on Farao, and on Egipt, and on the goddis therof, and on the kyngis therof, and on hem that tristen in hym.
Le Seigneur des armées. Dieu d’Israël, a dit: Voici que moi je visiterai le tumulte d’Alexandrie, et Pharaon, et l’Egypte, et ses dieux, et ses rois, et Pharaon, et ceux qui se confient en lui.
26 And Y schal yyue hem in to the hondis of men that seken the lijf of hem, and in to the hondis of Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne, and in to the hondis of hise seruauntis; and aftir these thingis it schal be enhabitid, as in the formere daies, seith the Lord.
Et je les livrerai à la main de ceux qui cherchent leur âme, à la main de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et à la main de ses serviteurs; et après cela elle sera habitée comme dans les jours anciens, dit le Seigneur.
27 And thou, Jacob, my seruaunt, drede thou not, and Israel, drede thou not; for lo! Y schal make thee saaf fro fer place, and thi seed fro the lond of his caitiftee; and Jacob schal turne ayen, and schal reste, and schal haue prosperite, and noon schal be, that schal make hym aferd.
Et toi, ne crains pas, mon serviteur Jacob, et ne t’effraye point, Israël, parce que moi je le sauverai, en te ramenant de loin, et ta race, en la retirant de la terre de ta captivité; et Jacob retournera, et il se reposera, et il prospérera, et il n’y aura personne qui l’épouvante.
28 And Jacob, my seruaunt, nyle thou drede, seith the Lord, for Y am with thee; for Y schal waste alle folkis, to whiche Y castide thee out; but Y schal not waste thee, but Y schal chastise thee in doom, and Y schal not spare thee as innocent.
Et toi, ne crains pas, Jacob mon serviteur, dit le Seigneur, parce que moi je suis avec toi, parce que moi je détruirai entièrement toutes les nations chez lesquelles je t’ai jeté; pour toi, je ne te détruirai pas entièrement, mais je te châtierai selon la justice et je ne t’épargnerai pas comme un innocent.
