Jeremiah 38
1 Forsothe Safacie, sone of Nathan, and Jedelie, sone of Fassur, and Jothal, sone of Selemye, and Fassour, sone of Melchie, herden the wordis whiche Jeremye spak to al the puple,
Men Sefatja, Mattans sønn, og Gedalja, Pashurs sønn, og Jukal, Selemjas sønn, og Pashur, Malkias sønn, hørte de ord som Jeremias talte til alt folket:
2 `and seide, The Lord seith these thingis, Who euer dwellith in this citee, schal die bi swerd, and hungur, and pestilence; but he that flieth to Caldeis, shal lyue, and his soule schal be hool and lyuynge.
Så sier Herren: Den som blir i denne by, skal dø ved sverd, ved hunger og ved pest; men den som går ut til kaldeerne, skal bli i live, han skal få sitt liv til krigsbytte og leve.
3 The Lord seith these thingis, This citee to be bitakun schal be bitakun in to the hond of the oost of the kyng of Babiloyne, and he schal take it.
Så sier Herren: Denne by skal visselig gis i hendene på Babels konges hær, og han skal innta den.
4 And the princes seiden to the kyng, We preien, that this man be slayn; for of bifore castyng he discoumfortith the hondis of men werriours, that dwelliden in this citee, and the hondis of al the puple, and spekith to hem bi alle these wordis. For whi this man sekith not pees to this puple, but yuel.
Da sa høvdingene til kongen: La denne mann drepe, fordi han får de stridsmenn som er blitt tilbake i denne by, og alt folket til å la hendene synke ved at han taler slike ord til dem! For denne mann søker ikke folkets vel, han søker dets ulykke.
5 And kyng Sedechie seide, Lo! he is in youre hondis, for it is not leueful that the kyng denye ony thing to you.
Da sa kong Sedekias: Se, han er i eders hånd; for kongen makter ikke noget mot eder.
6 Therfor thei token Jeremye, and castiden hym doun in to the lake of Elchie, sone of Amalech, which was in the porche of the prisoun; and thei senten doun Jeremye bi cordis in to the lake, wherynne was no watir, but fen; therfor Jeremye yede doun in to the filthe.
Da tok de Jeremias og kastet ham i kongesønnen Malkias brønn, som var i vaktgården, og de firte Jeremias ned med rep; i brønnen var ikke vann, men bare dynd, og Jeremias sank ned i dyndet.
7 Forsothe Abdemalech Ethiopien, a chast man and oneste, herde, that was in the kyngis hous, that thei hadden sent Jeremye in to the lake; sotheli the king sat in the yate of Beniamyn.
Men etioperen Ebed-Melek, en gilding som tjente i kongens hus, hørte at de hadde kastet Jeremias i brønnen - kongen satt da i Benjamin-porten.
8 And Abdemalech yede out of the kyngis hous, and spak to the kyng,
Så gikk Ebed-Melek ut av kongens hus og talte til kongen og sa:
9 and seide, My lord the kyng, these men diden yuele alle thingis, what euer thingis thei diden ayens Jeremye, the profete, sendynge hym in to the lake, that he die there for hungur; for whi looues ben no more in the citee.
Herre konge! Disse menn har gjort ille i alt det de har gjort mot profeten Jeremias, som de har kastet i brønnen, og han dør der han er, av sult; for det er ikke brød i byen mere.
10 Therfor the kyng comaundide to Abdemelech Ethiopien, and seide, Take with thee thretti men fro hennus, and reise thou Jeremye, the profete, fro the lake, bifor that he die.
Da bød kongen etioperen Ebed-Melek: Ta tretti menn med dig herfra og dra profeten Jeremias op av brønnen før han dør!
11 Therfor whanne Abdemelech hadde take men with hym, he entride in to the hous of the kyng, that was vndur the celer; and he took fro thennus elde clothis, and elde ragges, that weren rotun; and he sente tho doun to Jeremye, in to the lake, bi cordis.
Og Ebed-Melek tok mennene med sig og gikk inn i kongens hus, ned i rummet under forrådskammeret, og tok derfra filler av sønderrevne og utslitte klær og firte dem ned til Jeremias i brønnen med rep.
12 And Abdemelech Ethiopien seide to Jeremye, Putte thou elde clothis, and these to-rent and rotun thingis vndur the cubit of thin hondis, and on the cordis. Therfor Jeremye dide so.
Og etioperen Ebed-Melek sa til Jeremias: Legg fillene av de sønderrevne og utslitte klær under dine armer, under repene! Og Jeremias gjorde så.
13 And thei drowen out Jeremye with cordis, and ledden hym out of the lake. Forsothe Jeremye dwellide in the porche of the prisoun.
Så drog de Jeremias op med repene og fikk ham op av brønnen, og Jeremias blev i vaktgården.
14 And kyng Sedechie sente, and took hym Jeremye, the profete, at the thridde dore that was in the hous of the Lord. And the kyng seide to Jeremye, Y axe of thee a word; hide thou not ony thing fro me.
Derefter sendte kong Sedekias bud og hentet profeten Jeremias til sig i den tredje inngang i Herrens hus, og kongen sa til Jeremias: Jeg vil spørre dig om noget; dølg intet for mig!
15 Forsothe Jeremye seide to Sedechie, If Y telle to thee, whether thou schalt not sle me? And if Y yyue councel to thee, thou schalt not here me.
Jeremias sa til Sedekias: Om jeg sier dig det, vil du da ikke la mig drepe? Og om jeg gir dig råd, vil du ikke høre på mig.
16 Therfor Sedechie the king swoor to Jeremye priueli, and seide, The Lord lyueth, that maad to vs this soule, Y schal not sle thee, and Y schal not bitake thee in to the hondis of these men, that seken thi lijf.
Da svor kong Sedekias Jeremias en ed i lønndom og sa: Så sant Herren lever, han som har gitt oss dette vårt liv, vil jeg ikke drepe dig og ikke gi dig i hendene på disse menn som står dig efter livet.
17 And Jeremye seide to Sedechie, The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, If thou goest forth, and goest out to the princes of the kyng of Babiloyne, thi soule schal lyue, and this citee schal not be brent with fier, and thou schalt be saaf, thou and thin hous.
Da sa Jeremias til Sedekias: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Dersom du går ut til Babels konges høvdinger, så skal du leve, og denne by skal ikke bli brent op med ild, og du skal leve, du og ditt hus.
18 Forsothe if thou goest not out to the princes of the kyng of Babiloyne, this citee schal be bitakun in to the hondis of Caldeis; and thei schulen brenne it with fier, and thou schalt not ascape fro the hond of hem.
Men dersom du ikke går ut til Babels konges høvdinger, så skal denne by bli gitt i kaldeernes hånd, og de skal brenne den op med ild, og du skal ikke undkomme av deres hånd.
19 And kyng Sedechie seide to Jeremye, Y am angwischid for the Jewis that fledden ouer to Caldeis, lest perauenture Y be bitakun in to the hondis of hem, and thei scorne me.
Men kong Sedekias sa til Jeremias: Jeg er redd for de jøder som er gått over til kaldeerne, at jeg skal bli overgitt i deres hånd, og at de skal fare ille med mig.
20 Forsothe Jeremye answeride, and seide to hym, Thei schulen not bitake thee; Y biseche, here thou the vois of the Lord, which Y schal speke to thee, and it schal be wel to thee, and thi soule schal lyue.
Men Jeremias sa: Du skal ikke bli overgitt til dem; hør bare på Herrens røst i det som jeg taler til dig, så det må gå dig vel, og du må leve!
21 That if thou wolt not go out, this is the word which the Lord schewide to me, Lo!
Men undslår du dig for å gå ut, da er dette det ord Herren har latt mig se:
22 alle the wymmen, that weren left in the hous of the kyng of Juda, schulen be led out to the princes of the kyng of Babiloyne; and tho wymmen schulen seie, Thi pesible men disseyueden thee, and hadden the maistrye ayens thee; thei drenchiden thee in filthe, and thi feet in slidirnesse, and yeden awei fro thee.
Se, alle de kvinner som er blitt tilbake i Judas konges hus, skal bli ført ut til Babels konges høvdinger, og de skal si til dig: Dine gode venner har lokket dig og fått overhånd over dig; da dine føtter sank ned i skarnet, trakk de sig tilbake.
23 And alle thi wyues and thi sones schulen be led out to Caldeis, and thou schalt not ascape the hondis of hem; but thou schalt be bitakun in to the hondis of the kyng of Babiloyne, and he schal brenne this citee bi fier.
Og alle dine hustruer og dine barn skal bli ført ut til kaldeerne, og du skal ikke undkomme av deres hånd; men ved Babels konges hånd skal du bli grepet, og for din skyld skal denne by bli brent op med ild.
24 Therfore Sedechie seide to Jeremye, No man wite these wordis, and thou schalt not die.
Og Sedekias sa til Jeremias: La ikke nogen få vite om denne samtale, ellers skal du dø!
25 Sotheli if the princes heren, that Y spak with thee, and comen to thee, and seien to thee, Schewe thou to vs what thou spakest with the kyng, hide thou not fro vs, and we schulen not sle thee; and what the kyng spak with thee,
Og om høvdingene får høre at jeg har talt med dig, og de så kommer til dig og sier: Fortell oss hvad du har sagt til kongen! Dølg det ikke for oss, ellers vil vi drepe dig! Hvad har kongen sagt til dig?
26 thou schalt seie to hem, Knelyngli Y puttide forth my preiris bifore the kyng, that he schulde not comaunde me to be led ayen in to the hous of Jonathan, and Y schulde die there.
da skal du si til dem: Jeg bar min ydmyke bønn frem for kongens åsyn; Jeg bad at han ikke måtte føre mig tilbake til Jonatans hus for å dø der.
27 Therfor alle the princes camen to Jeremye, and axiden hym; and he spak to hem bi alle the wordis whiche the kyng hadde comaundid to hym, and thei ceessiden fro hym; for whi no thing was herd.
Og da alle høvdingene kom til Jeremias og spurte ham, svarte han dem aldeles som kongen hadde befalt. Og de tidde og lot ham være i fred; for saken var ikke blitt kjent.
28 Therfor Jeremye dwellide in the porche of the prisoun, til to the dai wherynne Jerusalem was takun; and it was don, that Jerusalem schulde be takun.
Og Jeremias blev i vaktgården like til den dag da Jerusalem blev inntatt.
