Jeremiah 1
1 The wordis of Jeremye, sone of Helchie, of the preestis that weren in Anathot, in the lond of Beniamyn.
Paroles de Jérémie, fils de Hilkiyyahou, l’un des prêtres demeurant à Anatot, sur le territoire de Benjamin,
2 For the word of the Lord was maad to hym in the daies of Josie, the sone of Amon, kyng of Juda, in the threttenethe yeer of his rewme.
à qui la parole de l’Eternel fut adressée au temps de Josias, fils d’Amon, roi de Juda, dans la treizième année de son règne,
3 And it was don in the daies of Joachym, the sone of Josie, the king of Juda, til to the endyng of the enleuenthe yeer of Sedechie, sone of Josie, kyng of Juda, til the passyng ouer, ether caitifte, of Jerusalem, in the fyuethe monethe.
et encore au temps de Joïakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu’à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu’à l’exil des habitants de Jérusalem, au cinquième mois.
4 And the word of the Lord was maad to me,
La parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée en ces termes:
5 and seide, Bifor that Y fourmede thee in the wombe, Y knewe thee; and bifor that thou yedist out of the wombe, Y halewide thee; and Y yaf thee a profete among folkis.
"Avant que je t’eusse formé dans le sein de ta mère, je te connaissais; avant que tu fusses sorti de ses entrailles, je t’avais consacré, je t’avais désigné comme prophète des nations."
6 And Y seide, A! A! A! Lord God, lo! Y kan not speke, for Y am a child.
Et je m’écriai: "Eh quoi! Eternel, Dieu, je ne sais point parler, car je suis un enfant!"
7 And the Lord seide to me, Nyle thou seie, that Y am a child; for thou schalt go to alle thingis, to whiche Y schal sende thee, and thou schalt speke alle thingis, what euer thingis Y schal comaunde to thee.
Et l’Eternel me répondit: "Ne dis pas: Je suis un enfant. Mais tous ceux où je t’enverrai, tu iras les trouver, et tout ce que je t’ordonnerai, tu le diras.
8 Drede thou not of the face of hem, for Y am with thee, to delyuere thee, seith the Lord.
Ne les crains point, car je serai avec toi pour te protéger, dit l’Eternel."
9 And the Lord sente his hond, and touchide my mouth; and the Lord seide to me, Lo! Y haue youe my wordis in thi mouth; lo!
Alors l’Eternel étendit la main et en effleura ma bouche; puis l’Eternel me dit: "Voici, je mets mes paroles dans ta bouche.
10 Y haue ordeynede thee to day on folkis, and on rewmes, that thou drawe vp, and distrie, and leese, and scatere, and bilde, and plaunte.
Vois que je te donne mission en ce jour auprès des peuples et des royaumes, pour arracher et pour démolir, pour détruire et pour renverser, pour bâtir et pour planter."
11 And the word of the Lord was maad to me, and seide, What seest thou, Jeremye?
La parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée en ces termes "Que vois-tu, Jérémie?" Je répondis: "Je vois un rameau de l’arbre hâtif.
12 And Y seide, Y se a yerde wakynge. And the Lord seide to me, Thou hast seen wel, for Y schal wake on my word, to do it.
Tu as bien vu, me dit l’Eternel; car je vais me hâter d’accomplir ma parole."
13 And the word of the Lord was maad the secounde tyme to me, and seide, What seest thou? Y se a pot buylynge, and the face therof fro the face of the north.
La parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée une seconde fois en ces termes: "Que vois-tu?" Je répondis: "Je vois une chaudière bouillonnante, dont la face antérieure est tournée vers le Nord."
14 And the Lord seide to me, Fro the north schal be schewid al yuel on alle the dwelleris of the lond.
Et l’Eternel me dit: "C’Est du Nord que le malheur doit éclater sur tous les habitants du pays.
15 For lo! Y schal clepe togidere alle the naciouns of rewmes of the north, seith the Lord, and thei schulen come, and sette ech man his seete in the entryng of the yatis of Jerusalem, and on alle the wallis therof in cumpas, and on alle the citees of Juda.
Or je vais faire appel à tous les peuples des royaumes du Nord, dit l’Eternel, et ils viendront et établiront chacun son siège à l’entrée des portes de Jérusalem, campés tout autour de ses remparts et de toutes les villes de Juda.
16 And Y schal speke my domes with hem on al the malice of hem, that forsoken me, and maden sacrifice to alien goddis, and worschipiden the werk of her hondis.
Et je ferai valoir mes griefs contre eux à propos de tous leurs méfaits; car ils m’ont délaissé pour encenser des divinités étrangères et se prosterner devant l’oeuvre de leurs mains.
17 Therfor girde thou thi leendis, and rise thou, and speke to hem alle thingis whiche Y comaunde to thee; drede thou not of the face of hem, for Y schal not make thee for to drede the cheer of hem.
Quant à toi, tu ceindras tes reins, tu iras leur dire tout ce que je te prescrirai: ne tremble pas à cause d’eux ou, moi, je te ferai trembler devant eux.
18 For Y yaf thee to dai in to a strong citee, and in to an yrun piler, and in to a brasun wal, on al the lond, to the kyngis of Juda, and to the princis therof, and to the preestis therof, and to al the puple of the lond.
Or, dès aujourd’hui, je fais de toi une ville forte, une colonne de fer, une muraille d’airain à l’encontre de tout le pays, des rois de Juda, de ses princes, de ses prêtres et du peuple de la contrée.
19 And thei schulen fiyte ayens thee, and thei schulen not haue the maistrie; for Y am with thee, seith the Lord, that Y delyuere thee.
Et s’ils te combattent, ils ne prévaudront pas contre toi, car je serai avec toi, dit l’Eternel, pour te protéger."
