James 4

1 Wherof ben batelis and cheestis among you? Whether not of youre coueitisis, that fiyten in youre membris?

നിങ്ങളുടെ മധ്യത്തിൽ സംഘട്ടനങ്ങളും കലഹങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാകാൻ എന്താണു കാരണം? നിങ്ങളുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ പോരാടുന്ന ദുർമോഹങ്ങളിൽനിന്നല്ലേ അവ ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത്?

2 Ye coueiten, and ye han not; ye sleen, and ye han enuye, and ye moun not gete. Ye chiden, and maken batel; and ye han not, for ye axen not.

ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവ ലഭിക്കാതെ വരുമ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾ കൊലപാതകംവരെ ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഒട്ടേറെ മോഹിച്ചിട്ടും കിട്ടാതെ വരുമ്പോൾ കലഹിക്കുന്നു, സംഘട്ടനം നടത്തുന്നു. നിങ്ങൾക്കു ലഭിക്കാതെ പോകുന്നതിന്റെ കാരണമോ; ദൈവത്തോട് അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നതാണ്.

3 Ye axen, and ye resseyuen not; for that ye axen yuele, as ye schewen opynli in youre coueitisis.

നിങ്ങൾ യാചിക്കുന്നെങ്കിലും ലഭിക്കുന്നില്ല; കാരണം, സുഖഭോഗങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടി ചെലവിടണം എന്ന ദുരുദ്ദേശ്യത്തോടെയാണ് നിങ്ങൾ യാചിക്കുന്നത്.

4 Auowtreris, witen not ye, that the frenschip of this world is enemye to God? Therfor who euere wole be frend of this world, is maad the enemye of God.

അപഥസഞ്ചാരികളേ, ലോകത്തോടുള്ള മൈത്രി ദൈവത്തോടുള്ള ശത്രുതയാകുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ അറിയുന്നില്ലേ? അതിനാൽ, ലോകത്തിന്റെ മിത്രമാകാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവൻ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ശത്രുവായിത്തീരുന്നു.

5 Whether ye gessen, that the scripture seith veynli, The spirit that dwellith in you, coueitith to enuye?

“നമ്മിൽ വസിക്കാനായി, ദൈവം അയച്ച ആത്മാവ് തന്നോടുള്ള പ്രതിബദ്ധത മറ്റാരുമായും പങ്കുവെക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നില്ല” എന്നു തിരുവെഴുത്തു പറയുന്നത് നിരർഥകമോ?

6 But he yyueth the more grace; for which thing he seith, God withstondith proude men, but to meke men he yyueth grace.

ദൈവം നമുക്ക് കൃപ അധികം നൽകുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടാണ്, “ദൈവം അഹങ്കാരികളെ എതിർക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ വിനയാന്വിതർക്ക് അവിടന്ന് കൃപചൊരിയുന്നു” എന്നു തിരുവെഴുത്തു പറയുന്നത്.

7 Therfor be ye suget to God; but withstonde ye the deuel, and he schal fle fro you.

അതുകൊണ്ട്, ദൈവത്തിനു സ്വയം സമർപ്പിക്കുക; പിശാചിനോട് ചെറുത്തുനിൽക്കുക, അപ്പോൾ അവൻ നിങ്ങളിൽനിന്ന് ഓടിയകലും.

8 Neiye ye to God, and he schal neiye to you. Ye synneris, clense ye hondis, and ye double in soule, purge ye the hertis.

ദൈവത്തോട് അടുത്തുവരിക; അപ്പോൾ അവിടന്നു നിങ്ങളോട് അടുത്തുവരും. പാപികളേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ കൈകൾ നിർമലമാക്കുക; ഇരുമനസ്സുള്ളവരേ, ഹൃദയം ശുദ്ധമാക്കുക.

9 Be ye wretchis, and weile ye; youre leiyyng be turned in to weping, and ioye in to sorewe of herte.

വിലാപത്തോടെ ദുഃഖിച്ചു കണ്ണുനീരൊഴുക്കുക; നിങ്ങളുടെ ആഹ്ലാദം ദുഃഖമായും ആനന്ദം വിഷാദമായും തീരട്ടെ.

10 Be ye mekid in the siyt of the Lord, and he schal enhaunse you.

കർത്തൃസന്നിധിയിൽ വിനയാന്വിതരായിരിക്കുക, അപ്പോൾ കർത്താവ് നിങ്ങളെ ഉയർത്തും.

11 My britheren, nyle ye bacbite ech othere. He that bacbitith his brothir, ethir that demeth his brothir, bacbitith the lawe, and demeth the lawe. And if thou demest the lawe, thou art not a doere of the lawe, but a domesman.

സഹോദരങ്ങളേ, പരസ്പരം അപവാദം പറയരുത്. സഹോദരങ്ങൾക്കു വിരോധമായി സംസാരിക്കുകയോ അവരെ വിധിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്ന ആൾ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിനു വിരുദ്ധമായി സംസാരിക്കുകയും അതിനെ വിധിക്കുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നു. ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെ വിധിക്കുമ്പോൾ നീ അതിനെ പാലിക്കുകയല്ല, അതിന്റെ വിധികർത്താവായി മാറുകയാണ്.

12 But oon is makere of the lawe, and iuge, that may lese, and delyuere.

ന്യായപ്രമാണദാതാവും ന്യായകർത്താവും ഒരാൾമാത്രം; രക്ഷിക്കാനും നശിപ്പിക്കാനും ശക്തനായ ദൈവംതന്നെ. അയൽവാസിയെ ന്യായംവിധിക്കാൻ നിനക്ക് എന്ത് അധികാരം?

13 And who art thou, that demest thi neiybore? Lo! now ye, that seien, To dai ethir to morewe we schulen go in to thilke citee, and there we schulen dwelle a yeer, and we schulen make marchaundise, and we schulen make wynning;

“ഇന്നോ നാളെയോ ഞങ്ങൾ ഏതെങ്കിലും പട്ടണത്തിൽ ചെന്ന് ഒരുവർഷം വ്യാപാരംചെയ്ത് ധനം സമ്പാദിക്കും” എന്നു പറയുന്നവരേ, കേൾക്കുക:

14 whiche witen not, what is to you in the morewe.

നാളെ എങ്ങനെയുള്ളതായിരിക്കും എന്ന് ആർക്കും അറിയില്ലല്ലോ. എന്താണ് നിങ്ങളുടെ ജീവിതം? ക്ഷണനേരത്തേക്കു ദൃശ്യമാകുന്നതും പിന്നെ അദൃശ്യമാകുന്നതുമായ മൂടൽമഞ്ഞുമാത്രമല്ലേ?

15 For what is youre lijf? A smoke apperinge at a litil, and aftirward it schal be wastid. Therfor that ye seie, If the Lord wole, and if we liuen, we schulen do this thing, ether that thing.

“കർത്തൃഹിതമെങ്കിൽമാത്രം ഞങ്ങൾ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന് ഇതൊക്കെ ചെയ്യും” എന്നല്ലേ നിങ്ങൾ പറയേണ്ടത്?

16 And now ye maken ful out ioye in youre pridis; euery siche ioye is wickyd.

എന്നാൽ, നിങ്ങൾ സ്വയം പ്രശംസിക്കുകയും വീമ്പിളക്കുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നു. ഇത്തരം ആത്മപ്രശംസ എല്ലാം തിന്മയാണ്.

17 Therfor it is synne to hym, that kan do good, and doith not.

ഒരാൾ ചെയ്യേണ്ടുന്ന നന്മ എന്താണെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടും അതു ചെയ്യാതിരിക്കുന്നത് അവർക്കു പാപമാണ്.
