James 2
1 Mi britheren, nyle ye haue the feith of oure Lord Jhesu Crist of glorie, in accepcioun of persoones.
Meus amigos, como irmãos na fé em nosso glorioso Senhor Jesus Cristo, vocês não devem demonstrar favoritismo.
2 For if a man `that hath a goldun ring, and in a feire clothing, cometh in youre cumpany, and a pore man entrith in a foul clothing,
Imaginem que um homem entre em sua sinagoga usando anéis de ouro e roupas finas e, logo em seguida, entre um homem pobre, vestido com trapos.
3 and if ye biholden in to hym that is clothid with clere clothing, and if ye seie to hym, Sitte thou here wel; but to the pore man ye seien, Stonde thou there, ethir sitte vndur the stool of my feet; whether ye demen not anentis you silf,
Se vocês derem atenção especial ao homem bem-vestido e disserem: “Por favor, sente-se aqui neste lugar de honra”, mas ao pobre disserem: “Fique em pé ali, ou sente-se no chão, aos meus pés”,
4 and ben maad domesmen of wickid thouytis?
por acaso não estão discriminando e julgando por motivos ruins?
5 Heere ye, my moost dereworthe britheren, whethir God chees not pore men in this world, riche in feith, and eiris of the kyngdom, that God bihiyte to men that louen him?
Escutem, amigos: Deus não escolheu aqueles que o mundo considera pobres para serem ricos em sua fé nele e para que aqueles que o amam herdem o Reino prometido por Ele?
6 But ye han dispisid the pore man. Whether riche men oppressen not you bi power, and thei drawen you to domes?
Mas vocês tratam os pobres de maneira vergonhosa. Não são os ricos que humilham vocês e que os arrastam diante dos tribunais?
7 Whether thei blasfemen not the good name, that is clepid to help on you?
Eles não insultam o nome honrado daquele que os chamou e a quem vocês pertencem?
8 Netheles if ye performen the kingis lawe, bi scripturis, Thou schalt loue thi neiybour as thi silf, ye don wel.
Se vocês cumprirem a lei real das Sagradas Escrituras: “Ame ao seu próximo como a si mesmo”, então, estarão fazendo o que é certo.
9 But if ye taken persones, ye worchen synne, and ben repreued of the lawe, as trespasseris.
Mas estarão pecando, caso demonstrem favoritismo. Se vocês violarem a lei, serão considerados culpados.
10 And who euere kepith al the lawe, but offendith in oon, he is maad gilti of alle.
Uma pessoa que viola apenas um mandamento da lei, mesmo que cumpra todos os outros, é considerada culpada.
11 For he that seide, Thou schalt do no letcherie, seide also, Thou schalt not sle; that if thou doist not letcherie, but thou sleest, thou art maad trespassour of the lawe.
Deus lhes disse para não cometerem adultério e também para não matarem. Então, se vocês não cometem adultério, mas matam, então, tornaram-se culpados por violarem a lei.
12 Thus speke ye, and thus do ye, as bigynnynge to be demyd bi the lawe of fredom.
Vocês devem falar e viver como pessoas que serão julgadas pela lei que traz a liberdade.
13 For whi dom with out merci is to hym, that doith no mercy; but merci aboue reisith dom.
Quem não demonstrar misericórdia também será julgado sem misericórdia. No entanto, a misericórdia prevalece sobre o julgamento!
14 Mi britheren, what schal it profite, if ony man seie that he hath feith, but he hath not the werkis? whether feith schal mowe saue hym?
Meus amigos, o que adianta alguém dizer que tem fé em Deus, se não pratica boas ações? Esse tipo de “fé” pode salvar alguém?
15 And if a brother ethir sister be nakid, and han nede of ech daies lyuelode,
Se um irmão ou uma irmã não têm o que vestir ou o que comer,
16 and if ony of you seie to hem, Go ye in pees, be ye maad hoot, and be ye fillid; but if ye yyuen not to hem tho thingis that ben necessarie to bodi, what schal it profite?
e vocês disserem: “Que Deus os abençoe! Vistam roupas quentes e comam bem!” Mas, vocês não dão o que essas pessoas precisam para sobreviver, onde está a bondade nisso?
17 So also feith, if it hath not werkis, is deed in it silf.
Por si só, mesmo a fé de vocês em Deus, baseada na verdade, está morta e não tem valor algum se vocês realmente não praticarem o que é bom e justo.
18 But summan schal seie, Thou hast feith, and Y haue werkis; schewe thou to me thi feith with out werkis, and Y schal schewe to thee my feith of werkis.
Alguém pode até dizer: “Você tem a sua fé em Deus. E eu tenho as minhas boas ações.” Bem, mostre-me a sua fé em Deus sem boas ações e eu lhe mostrarei a minha fé em Deus por meio de boas ações.
19 Thou bileuest, that o God is; thou doist wel; and deuelis bileuen, and tremblen.
Você acredita que Deus é um só? Ótimo! Mas os demônios também acreditam em Deus e têm muito medo dele.
20 But wolt thou wite, thou veyn man, that feith with out werkis is idul?
Seu tolo! Você não sabe que crer em Deus sem fazer o que é justo não faz o mínimo sentido?
21 Whether Abraham, oure fadir, was not iustified of werkis, offringe Ysaac, his sone, on the auter?
O nosso antepassado Abraão não demonstrou que foi justificado por meio do que ele fez, ao oferecer o seu próprio filho Isaque no altar como sacrifício?
22 Therfor thou seest, that feith wrouyte with hise werkis, and his feith was fillid of werkis.
Note como a sua fé e as suas ações agiram juntas. Por meio das suas ações, sua fé em Deus se tornou completa.
23 And the scripture was fillid, seiynge, Abraham bileuede to God, and it was arettid to hym to riytwisnesse, and he was clepid the freend of God.
Assim, se cumpriu o que está escrito nas Sagradas Escrituras: “Abraão creu em Deus e, por isso, foi considerado justo” e Deus o chamou de amigo.
24 Ye seen that a man is iustified of werkis, and not of feith oneli.
Vejam que as pessoas demonstram ser justas pelo que elas fazem, e não apenas porque dizem ter fé.
25 In lijk maner, and whether also Raab, the hoore, was not iustified of werkis, and resseyuede the messangeris, and sente hem out bi anothir weie?
Da mesma maneira, não foi Raabe, a prostituta, que demonstrou ser justa por meio do que ela fez, quando escondeu os espiões e os ajudou a fugir por uma estrada diferente?
26 For as the bodi with out spirit is deed, so also feith with out werkis is deed.
Exatamente como o corpo está morto sem o espírito, assim também a fé sem ações está morta.
