Isaiah 40
1 My puple, be ye coumfortid, be ye coumfortid, seith youre Lord God.
Consolez, consolez mon peuple, dira votre Dieu.
2 Speke ye to the herte of Jerusalem, and clepe ye it, for the malice therof is fillid, the wickidnesse therof is foryouun; it hath resseyued of the hond of the Lord double thingis for alle hise synnes.
Parlez à Jérusalem selon son cœur, et lui criez que son temps marqué est accompli, que son iniquité est tenue pour acquittée, qu'elle a reçu de la main de l'Eternel le double pour tous ses péchés.
3 The vois of a crier in desert, Make ye redi the weie of the Lord, make ye riytful the pathis of oure God in wildirnesse.
La voix de celui qui crie au désert [est]; préparez le chemin de l'Eternel, dressez parmi les landes les sentiers à notre Dieu.
4 Ech valey schal be enhaunsid, and ech mounteyn and litil hil schal be maad low; and schrewid thingis schulen be in to streiyt thingis, and scharpe thingis schulen be in to pleyn weies.
Toute vallée sera comblée, et toute montagne et tout coteau seront abaissés, et les lieux tortus seront redressés, et les lieux raboteux seront aplanis.
5 And the glorie of the Lord schal be schewid, and ech man schal se togidere, that the mouth of the Lord hath spoke.
Alors la gloire de l'Eternel se manifestera, et toute chair ensemble la verra; car la bouche de l'Eternel a parlé.
6 The vois of God, seiynge, Crie thou. And Y seide, What schal Y crie? Ech fleisch is hei, and al the glorie therof is as the flour of the feeld.
La voix dit; crie; et on a répondu; que crierai-je? Toute chair est [comme] l'herbe, et toute sa grâce est comme la fleur d'un champ.
7 The hei is dried vp, and the flour felle doun, for the spirit of the Lord bleew therynne.
L'herbe est séchée, et la fleur est tombée, parce que le vent de l'Eternel a soufflé dessus; vraiment le peuple [est comme] l'herbe.
8 Verely the puple is hey; the hey is dried vp, and the flour felle doun; but the word of the Lord dwellith with outen ende.
L'herbe est séchée, et la fleur est tombée; mais la parole de notre Dieu demeure éternellement.
9 Thou that prechist to Sion, stie on an hiy hil; thou that prechist to Jerusalem, enhaunse thi vois in strengthe; enhaunse thou, nyle thou drede; seie thou to the citees of Juda, Lo! youre God.
Sion, qui annonces de bonnes nouvelles, monte sur une haute montagne; Jérusalem, qui annonces de bonnes nouvelles, élève ta voix avec force; élève-la, ne crains point; dis aux villes de Juda; voici votre Dieu.
10 Lo! the Lord God schal come in strengthe, and his arm schal holde lordschipe; lo! his mede is with hym, and his werk is bifore hym.
Voici, le Seigneur l'Eternel viendra contre le fort, et son bras dominera sur lui; voici son salaire [est] avec lui, et son loyer [marche] devant lui.
11 As a scheepherd he schal fede his flok, he schal gadere lambreen in his arm, and he schal reise in his bosom; he schal bere scheep `with lomb.
Il paîtra son troupeau, comme un berger, il assemblera les agneaux entre ses bras, il les placera en son sein; il conduira celles qui allaitent.
12 Who mat watris in a fist, and peiside heuenes with a spanne? Who peiside the heuynesse of the erthe with thre fyngris, and weide mounteyns in a weihe, and litle hillis in a balaunce?
Qui est celui qui a mesuré les eaux avec le creux de sa main, et qui a compassé les cieux avec la paume; qui a rassemblé [toute] la poussière de la terre dans un boisseau; et qui a pesé au crochet les montagnes, et les coteaux à la balance?
13 Who helpide the Spirit of the Lord, ether who was his councelour, and schewide to hym?
Qui a dirigé l'Esprit de l'Eternel, ou qui étant son conseiller, lui a montré [quelque chose]?
14 With whom took he councel, and who lernyde hym, and tauyte hym the path of riytfulnesse, and lernyde hym in kunnyng, and schewyde to him the weie of prudence?
Avec qui a-t-il pris conseil, et qui l'a instruit, et lui a enseigné le sentier de jugement? Qui lui a enseigné la science, et lui a montré le chemin de la prudence?
15 Lo! folkis ben as a drope of a boket, and ben arettid as the tunge of a balaunce; lo!
Voilà, les nations sont comme une goutte qui tombe d'un sceau, et elles sont réputées comme la menue poussière d'une balance; voilà, il a jeté çà et là les Iles comme de la poudre.
16 ylis ben as a litil dust, and the Liban schal not suffice to brenne his sacrifice, and the beestis therof schulen not suffice to brent sacrifice.
Et le Liban ne suffirait pas pour faire le feu, et les bêtes qui y sont ne seraient pas suffisantes pour l'holocauste.
17 Alle folkis ben so bifore hym, as if thei ben not; and thei ben rettid as no thing and veyn thing to hym.
Toutes les nations sont devant lui comme un rien, et il ne les considère que comme de la poussière, et comme un néant.
18 To whom therfor maden ye God lijk? ether what ymage schulen ye sette to hym?
A qui donc ferez-vous ressembler le [Dieu] Fort, et quelle ressemblance lui approprierez-vous?
19 Whether a smyth schal welle togidere an ymage, ether a gold smyth schal figure it in gold, and a worchere in siluer schal diyte it with platis of siluer?
L'ouvrier fond l'image, et l'orfèvre étend de l'or par-dessus, et lui fond des chaînettes d'argent.
20 A wijs crafti man chees a strong tre, and vnable to be rotun; he sekith how he schal ordeyne a symylacre, that schal not be mouyd.
Celui qui est si pauvre qu'il n'a pas de quoi offrir, choisit un bois qui ne pourrisse point, et cherche un ouvrier expert, pour faire une image taillée qui ne bouge point.
21 Whether ye witen not? whether ye herden not? whether it was not teld to you fro the begynnynge? whether ye vndurstoden not the foundementis of erthe?
N'aurez-vous [jamais] de connaissance? n'écouterez-vous [jamais]? ne vous a-t-il pas été déclaré dès le commencement? ne l'avez-vous pas entendu dès les fondements de la terre?
22 Which sittith on the cumpas of erthe, and the dwelleris therof ben as locustis; which stretchith forth heuenes as nouyt, and spredith abrood tho as a tabernacle to dwelle.
C'est lui qui est assis au-dessus du globe de la terre, et à qui ses habitants sont comme des sauterelles; c'est lui qui étend les cieux comme un voile, il les a même étendus comme une tente pour y habiter.
23 Which yyueth the sercheris of priuytees, as if thei be not, and made the iugis of erthe as a veyn thing.
C'est lui qui réduit les Princes à rien, et qui fait être les gouverneurs de la terre comme une chose de néant.
24 And sotheli whanne the stok of hem is nether plauntid, nether is sowun, nether is rootid in erthe, he bleew sudenli on hem, and thei drieden vp, and a whirle wynd schal take hem awei as stobil.
Même ils ne seront point plantés, même ils ne seront point semés, même leur tronc ne jettera point de racine en terre; même il soufflera sur eux, et ils sécheront, et le tourbillon les emportera comme de la paille.
25 And to what thing `ye han licned me, and han maad euene? seith the hooli.
A qui donc me ferez-vous ressembler, et à qui serais-je égalé? dit le Saint.
26 Reise youre iyen an hiy, and se ye, who made these thingis of nouyt; which ledith out in noumbre the kniythod of tho, and clepith alle bi name, for the multitude of his strengthe, and stalworthnesse, and vertu; nether o residue thing was.
Elevez vos yeux en haut, et regardez; qui a créé ces choses? c'est celui qui fait sortir leur armée par ordre, et qui les appelle toutes par leur nom; il n'y en a pas une qui manque, à cause de la grandeur de ses forces, et parce qu'il excelle en puissance.
27 Whi seist thou, Jacob, and spekist thou, Israel, My weie is hid fro the Lord, and my doom passide fro my God?
Pourquoi donc dirais-tu, ô Jacob! et pourquoi dirais-tu, ô Israël! mon état est caché à l'Eternel, et mon droit est inconnu à mon Dieu?
28 Whether thou knowist not, ether herdist thou not? God, euerlastynge Lord, that made of nouyt the endis of erthe, schal not faile, nether schal trauele, nether enserchyng of his wisdom is.
Ne sais-tu pas et n'as-tu pas entendu que le Dieu d'éternité, l'Eternel, a créé les bornes de la terre? il ne se lasse point, et ne se travaille point, et il n'y a pas moyen de sonder son intelligence.
29 That yyueth vertu to the weeri, and strengthe to hem that ben not, and multiplieth stalworthnesse.
C'est lui qui donne de la force à celui qui est las, et qui multiplie la force de celui qui n'a aucune vigueur.
30 Children schulen faile, and schulen trauele, and yonge men schulen falle doun in her sikenesse.
Les jeunes gens se lassent et se travaillent, même les jeunes gens d'élite tombent sans force.
31 But thei that hopen in the Lord, schulen chaunge strengthe, thei schulen take fetheris as eglis; thei schulen renne, and schulen not trauele; thei schulen go, and schulen not faile.
Mais ceux qui s'attendent à l'Eternel prennent de nouvelles forces; les ailes leur reviennent comme aux aigles; ils courront; et ne se fatigueront point; ils marcheront, et ne se lasseront point.
